A Night At The Congressional Races
Here's tonight's run-down of the Congressional races:
GOP Candidate's Ad: Democrats Have Blown Up Our (Fiscal) Houses
Wow. Check out this truly amazing new ad from former Rep. Melissa Hart (R-PA), who lost her re-election in an upset in 2006, and is now in a rematch against Democratic Rep. Jason Altmire. The ad accuses the Democratic Congress of blowing up America's fiscal house:
Unfortunately, it looks like no real explosions were used in the making of this ad. Hart's campaign manager informed Election Central that the ad was most likely done with computers.
Franken's Closing Argument: Coleman Is "Trying To Fool You"
Here's Al Franken's new attack ad against Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN), accusing him of running a "fake positive campaign" and lying about his political record and personal scandals:
"Norm Coleman really did take 52 trips paid for by special interests -- remember Alaska?" the announcer says. "Norm Coleman really does live in a million-dollar home owned by his special-interest friend. Norm Coleman really has voted with George Bush almost 90% of the time."
Idaho Farmer: Sali Is Still Stiffing Me On Farm Lease
Robert DeShazo, an Idaho farmer and lifelong Republican, is now attacking endangered GOP Rep. Bill Sali for having allegedly failed to pay him for the lease on a farm -- a debt that has lingered for over 30 years. Deshazo says Sali signed a contract to pay $15,000 in 1977 to lease land and farming equipment, but the checks bounced and the debt has still not been paid. Deshazo added that Sali failed to take care of the equipment, too.
Poll: Uncle Ted Going Down In Flames
The new Research 2000 poll of Alaska suggests that Sen. Ted Stevens' (R-AK) felony conviction has not gone over well back home. Dem candidate Mark Begich now leads Stevens 58%-36%, after having led Stevens by only 48%-46% two weeks ago.
Another Poll Gives Wicker Big Lead
A new Research 2000 poll shows appointed Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), who has been a major Democratic target in the quest for 60 seats, with a healthy lead over Democratic candidate Ronnie Musgrove. The numbers: Wicker 51%, Musgrove 44%, with a ±4% margin of error. This still will likely stay GOP.
More Polls Say Atheist-Baiter Dole Is Losing
Two more polls today are finding Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), who has taken to calling Democratic challenger Kay Hagan a tool of atheists, trailing in the polls. Research 2000 has Hagan ahead 50%-45%, with a ±4% margin of error, and CNN has Hagan ahead 53%-44%, outside the ±4% margin of error.
McConnell Sics The Hounds Right Back At Lunsford
Mitch McConnell has this new attack ad against Democratic businessman Bruce Lunsford, getting revenge on Lunsford for ripping off an old campaign gimmick from McConnell's 1984 campaign, in which hound dogs hunt down a frightened incumbent Senator:
"Bruce Lunsford steals a famous old commercial -- but what would these old hounds find if they went looking for Lunsford?" the announcer says, followed by the hound dogs looking for Lunsford in his many homes all across the country.

"Atheist-Baiter Dole" - PRICELESS!

The McConnell ad's not bad. Um, how close is this race? Could hound dogs actually be the deciding factor?

I guess I'd be more upset by the Hart ad if these things hadn't started seeming so comical.
Fear is soooo 2004.

Joe Biden is running for Senate in Delaware. Assuming he wins both VP and Senate, how does his seat in Delaware get filled?

I believe the (Democratic) Governor will appoint someone to fill the vacancy. That's how it's done in most states.

This is great, so no matter how many have early voted in AK, Stevens looses. The last couple of days, I'd been wondering how many early votes Stevens might have gotten before his conviction.

McCain and Palin have given us no details as to how they are going to put this country back on the right track. All I hear is country first, and Barack knows this person and Barack that... This is getting so tired, and for all of you morons that vote for McCain/Palin, I hope you've enjoyed the last 6 years, because we're going to get more of the same if they win; in competency, stay the course even though I'm going the wrong way, Brownie you're sure doing a heck of a job, birthday cake on the strip (BushMcCain) while a natural disaster is occurring, a VP that doesn't know their role Palin is just like Cheney in that way, rich get richer, poor get homeless, penniless, no healthcare, no jobs (they all go overseas, rising food costs, a bad education system, and maybe even another war.)
Get the booze ready...please and I don’t drink, bring me some tissue, cause here comes more sh!t rolling down hill if McCain/Palin win.

I don't even LIVE in Minnesota--I've only been in the state long enough to change planes--and I so badly want to see Franken win (and Tinklenberg--we don't have time for neo-McCarthyites).
I had the opportunity to meet Sen. Wellstone (by "meeting" I mean I shook hands with him once) and his staff helped me in a way that was likely very small to them but very significant for me. And his very example was so meaningful at perhaps one of the worst moments in this 8-year horror show known as the Bush Administration.
So when he died, I felt as if *I* lost my Senator, too, even though he didn't know me from a can of paint. The election of that blow-dried blowhard Norm Coleman was just a ton of rock salt into a gaping wound, especially after Senator Cleland was defeated by that chicken hawk Chambliss. I just couldn't believe it.
Now, here we are years later, and the prospect of Al Franken--whose humor was a balm during that awful time--becoming a Senator seems like justice to me.
I don't have a vote but it would do my heart well to see Franken prevail. I know folks are working hard, and for that, I thank you.

I feel the same way. It seemed like the forces of evil were taking over when Republicans seized power and progressive voices went silent, and we were helpless to do anything about it.
It's time for the Republican reign to end and Coleman needs to go.
GO AL FRANKEN!
CONTRIBUTE
I contributed to Al's campaign again yesterday.

I'm sorry, but I don't think contributing to Franken's campaign at this point will make a damn bit of difference.
Being tied with Norm Coleman in a state as blue as MN is like being tied with a spent douche nozzle. If Franken loses this race it will have nothing to do with money. It will have everything to do with his campaign being inept and Minnesotans being flakes.
If that pisses Minnesotans off, then go vote and prove me wrong. I'll be happy to eat crow.

Mitch is such a douchebag. The Lundsford Campaign needs to comeback with another ad saying Mitch's proves their point - Mitch is running from his Record. It's an attack add with no substance on the issues people are worried about.

It sucks that the Minnesota Senate seat isn't in the bag. Coleman was one of the lowest apples on the tree. This should not have been a nail-biter.

The Melissa Hart ad ("Democrats Have Blown Up Our (Fiscal) Houses") truly demonstrates - once more - that the GOP now believe that much of their potential voting base are functional morons.
Blaming the Democrats for the Bushies' financial collapse is like blaming the fire department after it arrives to put out the fire. "Gee, the house was just smoldering before they came, but the flames started to come out after they got here, and it burned up while they just stood there and sprayed water."
