A Night At The Congressional Races

Here's tonight's run-down on the Congressional races:

New Tinklenberg Ad: "Michele Bachmann Represents The Worst Of Washington"
El Tinklenberg, the Democrat running against Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), has this new TV ad declaring that Bachmann "represents the worst of Washington," and replays part of her McCarthyesque comments on Hardball:

Tinklenberg has already rolled out a positive ad introducing himself, and now has an interesting challenge: How to spend the $1.45 million he's received in online donations since her Hardball appearance, with less than two weeks to go in the election. The campaign is confident they can get in their spending through TV, radio and expanded phone banks.

Charlie Cook: House Dems On Track For Gains In The Mid-Twenties
The Cook Political Report released its latest set of ratings, notably moving three open GOP-held seats in Minnesota, New Jersey and New Mexico from "Toss Up" to "Lean Democratic." Cook's analysis also points to another big years for the Democrats: "All the signs of another big 'wave' election are apparent, and our current outlook is a gain of 23 to 28 seats for House Democrats."

Hillary Tapes Ad For Franken
Hillary Clinton has cut a new ad for Al Franken, an outreach to those Democratic voters in the state who have been leery of Franken and his colorful persona. The ad asks Minnesotans to help the Democrats reach 60 Senate seats:

"Now any single Republican can block the progress we need," Hillary says. "Al Franken could very well be that 60th vote. I've known Al for 15 years, and I know how committed he is to helping people."

Another Poll Shows Franken Ahead
A new Rasmussen poll gives Al Franken a narrow lead in the Minnesota Senate race: Franken 41%, Sen. Norm Coleman (R) 37%, and Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley 17%. Two weeks ago, Franken was up 43%-37% in Rasmussen's polling. Along with other polling, Franken appears to have grabbed a small but consistent lead after trailing in almost all the other polls this cycle.

NRSC Rolls Out New Ad In Colorado
The NRSC, which worked last week to quash reports that they were quitting the Colorado Senate race, has this new ad attacking Democratic nominee Mark Udall as a "Boulder liberal" serving San Francisco and Nancy Pelosi:

This sort of attack, along with the "Real America" line from Sarah Palin, are the sort of thing you don't see from Democrats: That is, to run down various geographic locales of the country in order to advance a culture-war political agenda. But it's often worked for the GOP in past elections, so the question is whether their luck is running out this time.

Poll: Chambliss Barely Ahead In Georgia
Another poll shows Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), who was deemed safe until just the past few weeks, in a tight race against Democratic challenger Jim Martin. The new numbers from Rasmussen: Chambliss 47%, Martin 45%, within the ±4.5% margin of error. Two weeks ago, Chambliss was up 50%-44%.

Poll: Landrieu Up Ten Points In Louisiana
The new Rasmussen poll in Louisiana gives Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) a solid lead of 53%-43% over Republican challenger John Kennedy. This race was the one place where the Republicans seemed to have a real shot at a pick-up this cycle, but it's stalled out -- and they've gone back and forth on whether to pull out entirely.

You know, with a name like Tinklenberg, it's got to be good.

I'm sending him 20 more east coast liberal elite bucks.

user-pic

I can't wait to see the results of Tinklenberg/Bachmann poll tonight.

user-pic

Nor can I, my friend.

user-pic

Hillary shines again.

The glee on the face of El Tinkleberg priceless.

Culture wars are soooo 20th Century....

user-pic

Is anyone other than the base buying this "San Francisco Liberal" shit anymore?

It's just fucking pathetic. No game at all.

user-pic

I just heard a guy on Gregory's show - they're talking about what a terrible factor Bush is for the election - and he said: with an incumbent president this unpopular, his party has lost the election, end of story.

user-pic

And they're losing so big. I mean, McCain needs to put PARTY first and soon. Put his effort into saving what's left of a GOP presence in Congress, then go home and have some warm milk.

Tinklenberg is a great example of why you need to have a respectable candidate contesting every district.

More good news from MN, former REPUBLICAN governor, Arne Carlson, endorsed Obama today.

user-pic

I think he kind of looks like Walter Mondale.

user-pic

He exemplifies the great deadly boring Scandinavian culture.

user-pic

I love that! And it's so true. :)

user-pic

With that first name, is he Welsh-Norwegian?

user-pic

OT, but today's CBS/NYT poll puts Obama up by 13.

user-pic

And bush at 22. (not that he matters anymore...)

user-pic

Go El!! I donated $25 to him from all the way out here in california. People like Michele Bachman need to get the message that their divisive message just won't fly any more.

Bye bye, Marilyn Musgrave.

Social Conservatives Aim Fire at GOP Campaign Committee
By Jonathan Allen, CQ Staff

The move by an arm of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) to scale back campaign support for embattled Reps. Michele Bachmann and Marilyn Musgrave drew a sharp rebuke from the leader of a prominent organization of social conservatives, who is vowing to tell his supporters not to donate to the GOP’s House campaign unit unless the decision is reversed.

The schaden continues to freud itself.

Nasty old bitch. Here's some of her work:

"Musgrave is best known as the main sponsor of the unsuccessful Federal Marriage Amendment in the 108th and 109th Congresses, originally drafted by the Alliance for Marriage. This proposed constitutional amendment would define marriage as "the union of a man and a woman" and bar any recognition of same-sex marriage or "legal incidents thereof" in the United States. In a September 2006 speech to the Family Research Council's "Values Voters Summit", Musgrave warned the audience that "the future is grim unless we do what we need to do to win this battle" and that "as we face the issues that we are facing today, I don’t think there's anything more important out there than the marriage issue.""

Eric, what are the three districts the Cook Report changed to "Lean Democratic"? For those of us who aren't subscribers, the link is a dead end.

There is something encouraging about the fact that Bachmann is going down in flames. There was a time that this horse dung would've floated in the sea of small minded constituents with little blowback.
Nice to see karma at work pronto for a change.

user-pic

The American people are waking up to the issues and the dirty tactics the Republicans use to keep control of the power that is slowly slipping from their grips. Once in power,...let's keep the democrats feet to the fire and actually make change they promised happen. I would count on Al Franken doing the right thing before Pelosi and day of the week. Go Al!
