A Night At The Congressional Races

Here's tonight's run-down on the Congressional races:

The Worst Press Conference Ever?
You really have to watch this excruciating press conference given by Sen. Norm Coleman's (R-MN) campaign manager, in which he struggled to (not) answer questions about reports that his boss' clothes were paid for by one of his campaign contributors. Give it a look -- it's well worth your time.

House GOP Gets Huge Loan
In a sign of just how desperate things are going for the House Republicans, Roll Call reports that the NRCC has obtained an $8 million loan in order for them to be able to compete against their much better-funded Democratic counterparts. Deep thought: In this economy, one can only wonder what kind of interest rate they're being charged.

Senate Dems Now Running Ad Against Mitch McConnell
The DSCC is now aiming high in their quest to get to 60 Senate seats, with a new TV ad against Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

"Wall St. and the big banks gave Mitch McConnell $4.4 million for his campaigns, and he fought for less regulation of Wall St.," the announcer says. "McConnell opened the gate, and Wall St. went wild -- and now our entire economy is at risk."

Sali Defends Skipping Committee Hearings
Rep. Bill Sali (R-ID), who is facing a stiff challenge from Democrat Walt Minnick, is being attacked by Minnick for skipping a House Oversight Committee hearing on the financial crisis. Sali's spokesman said Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) simply holds the hearing in order to grandstand: "If Henry Waxman was interested in doing more than just showboat, we'd be there in a heartbeat."

Freedom's Watch Intervenes In Oregon Senate Race
Freedom's Watch, the well-heeled right-wing group that has run attack ads against Dems in key Congressional races, is now getting involved in the Oregon Senate race. This new ad is running against Democratic candidate Jeff Merkley, who has taken the lead against incumbent Republican Gordon Smith in the latest polls:

There's something to be said for the insular nature of this ad -- a right-wing group is running an ad that dramatizes a fictional conversation on right-wing talk radio.

Poll: Chambliss Up By Six In Georgia
A new Rasmussen poll in Georgia gives Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) a 50%-44% lead over Democratic challenger Jim Martin. While not an impressive lead, it certainly looks better for Chambliss here than in other recent polls that have given him a lead of only a point or two.

Vote Vets Returns!
Vote Vets, the group that gained fame for airing ads against Republican Senators in 2006 over the issue of voting to provide better body armor, is back. Here's their new spot running against Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC):

An ad like this has a definite emotional hit to it: The viewer is forced to imagine those bullets hitting a real Soldier, and not just a target dummy.

Okay, these Vote Vets ads are killer. These should be seen everywhere.

Mitch McConnell? I met that guy about 8 years ago. He looked about 80 then too. Anyone know how old the guy is?

It would be wild to see the minority leader fall, and in KY!

Some have noted parallels between McCain's campaign and Hillary's (not counting issues at all here). Bets his campaign will eventually be borrowing money from himself?

Al Franken must be laughing his ass off at that press conference.

Yeah, that was incredible. That guy gives Scott McClellan a run for his money.

The ad is worth watching.  I made it about half-way through when I figgered I'd gotten the point.  I can't imagine I missed anything.

The Rasmussen in GA is perfectly okay. It's moved a point to Martin since the last poll. The moves in the other polls are dramatic because they had a massive lead for Chambliss before.

The key in GA will be the up and down ticket synegy between the Obama ground game, Martin's local push, and just how bad McCain and Chambliss' negatives get.

It remains a longshot state, but it's also a RNC money pit to sink cash into in the effort to defend not just the electoral votes but also a Senate seat that looked like a walkover a month or so ago. That's a huge positive for the Dems - everywhere that the RNC and the Congressional Committees have to spend money, the thinner it gets elsewhere.

One can say that Dean and Obama were perhaps unrealistic in their "50 State" rhetoric. But they have opened up the map to the degree that the rats on the Republican side are scurrying around for whatever cheese they can find on the sinking ship.

matyra,

McInsane's wife is a habitual kool-aid drinker BUT I doubt that she will shell out her hard earned cash for her husband's flight of fancy. She already let's his flabby, pasty white arse fly on her plane foe free.

Unless McInsane can make do with the bills she leaves on top of his nightstand . . . He's S.O.L.

Norm Coleman is the clap in human form . . . The gift that keeps on taking. I wonder how much each of his ties cost the American people.

Side note: It did not take long for Norm to cease being a gold-digger and become a full on whore.
