A Night At The Congressional Races

Here's tonight's run-down of the Congressional races:

New Dem Ad Dramatizes FBI Monitoring Ted Stevens
Check out this stunning new ad from the DSCC, depicting fictional FBI agents monitoring indicted Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) and listing his alleged crimes:

"And I voted for him," says a disappointed fictional agent.

Poll: Stevens Regains Narrow Lead In Alaska
A new Rasmussen poll has indicted Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) taking a narrow 49%-48% lead over Democrat Mark Begich, helped in now small part by the presence of the state's favorite daughter Sarah Palin on the GOP ticket. But Uncle Ted is hardly out of the woods yet -- there's a chance he could be convicted of a felony before Election Day, which would probably impact his numbers in a negative fashion.

Polls: Dems Could Grab Two House Seats In Ohio
A new pair of Research 2000 polls suggest that Democrats could pick up two Republican-held House seats in Ohio. In the First District, Democrat Steve Driehaus has a narrow 46%-44% lead over incumbent GOP Rep. Steve Chabot. In the open 16th District, Democrat John Boccieri has a heftier 48%-38% lead over Republican Kirk Schuring.

Dole: All Hell Will Break Loose If Dems Get 60 Seats
Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), who has fallen behind in the polls against Democrat Kay Hagan, appeared today on the Glenn Beck radio show to warn conservative voters of the dire consequences if the Dems get anywhere near 60 seats. "Even if you get 57, 58, you know, you are close enough if you can pick up a person here or two and it just means you can't fight back on anything," said Dole. "It just goes rolling through and excuse me, but all hell breaks through, you know?"

Udall Satirizes Attack Ads With One Of His Own
Here's a funny new ad from Senate candidate Mark Udall (D-CO), making fun of the attack ads being run by outside groups in this hotly-contested Senate race:

"Quick! Lock your doors and hide. It's me, Mark Udall," the candidate says. "I'm just kiddin'. You gotta keep a sense of humor, though."

Lunsford Blasts McConnell And The Bailout In New Ad
Senate candidate Bruce Lunsford (D-KY), who is trying to oust Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, has this new ad hammering McConnell over the Wall St. bailout and the overall economic crisis:

"McConnell took more than $4 million from the Wall St. financial industry, got rid of the government regulations they didn't like, and let the billionaires and CEOs stuff their pockets with cash," the announcer says. "Now Wall St.'s in trouble, and taxpayers are getting the bill."

Chambliss Explains Bailout Vote In New Ad
Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), who has found himself in an unexpectedly close race according to the most recent polls, probably on account of the economic crisis, has this new ad in which he looks into the camera and explains his vote for the Wall St. bailout:

"I'm as bad as you are about what happened," Chambliss says. "But doing nothing would have been a disaster."

I like the Udall ad. I wish more politicians would respond to attack ads that way.

It might diminish the effectiveness.

It does kind of diffuse the situation.

I kind of like both Udalls--good chance they'll both win.

I saw that earlier. Wow.

I mean the Ted Stevens thing

Sounds like a whole lot of Alaskans are not only drinking the Kool-Aid but bathing in it.

"There's a chance he could be convicted of a felony before Election Day, which would probably impact his numbers in a negative fashion."

I love it

Hell, he wouldn't even be able to vote for himself.

But if the conviction doesn't impact his numbers, and he gets re-elected, will he be allowed furloughs so that he can carry on as Senator?

Alaskans are a weird, secessionist bunch.
