A Day At The Congressional Races

Here's today's run-down of the Congressional races:

GOP Ad: "We Know John Murtha Doesn't Respect Us"
Here's the NRCC's new ad against Jack Murtha, replaying the video of Murtha calling his constituents racists and rednecks:

The latest polls show the once-safe Murtha now locked in a tight race with his unknown GOP opponent. If Murtha loses, this will end up being remembered as the Democratic version of a "Macaca Moment."

Dem Ad: Bachmann's Claims About Financial Regulation Are Literally Laughable
The DCCC has this new ad against the notorious Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), featuring video of her getting laughed at by a debate audience when she said the financial crisis was caused by too much regulation of Wall St.:

Bachmann was well on track for victory before her McCarthyist rant on Hardball, but the DCCC really smells blood in the water -- the latest FEC filings showed them buying up over half a million dollars in advertising against her.

Chambliss: Seeing All Those Black Voters Will Energize My Base
Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) told the New York Times that the long crowds of black early-voters will have a secondary effect on his own turnout operations for Election Day. "It has also got our side energized, they see what is happening," Chambliss said.

Poll: Abortion Scandal-Ridden GOP Candidate May Have Already Lost
The new SurveyUSA poll in Oregon finds that GOP House candidate Mike Erickson, a family-values conservative who has been accused of paying for his then-girlfriend's abortion back in 2000, has lost the early vote to Democrat Kurt Schrader by 62%-26% in an open Dem-held seat that was supposed to be a swing race. And with the poll also showing that 62% of the likely electorate has already voted -- and Schrader narrowly ahead among the 38% who haven't yet sent their votes in under Oregon's main-in voting system -- this race appears to be over.

Poll: Gay-Baiting GOP Congressman Headed For Re-Election
A new SurveyUSA poll finds that Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO), who has run virulently anti-gay ads accusing former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes (D) of having "big city" and "San Francisco" values, is on his way to re-election. The numbers: Graves 54%, Barnes 36%.

GOP Ad Against Goode's Opponent: This Liberal Has "Apologized To Arabs"
Here's the new NRCC ad against Tom Perriello, an international aid worker running against Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA), best known for denouncing the election of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) as the first Muslim member of the House. The ad attacks Perriello for his cultural outreach efforts to Arab countries:

"Liberal Group Apologized To Arabs For U.S. Troops Conduct," the on-screen text says. Virgil would be proud.

God, Chambliss is a tool. What a racist piece of shit. He doesn't even try to hide it.

Bachmann is just plain batshit crazy.

"What a racist piece of shit. He doesn't even try to hide it."
He would be if the claim made by the author were true, but since Mr. Kleefeld couldn't find a racist comment from Chamblis he just fabricated his own. Oh, the best y'all can hope for in this race is a run-off between Chambliss and Martin but the 7% of Repulicans that the Libritarian is pulling, because they're mad at the "gang of 10" thing, will come home.

user-pic

Who knows? Maybe Ceiling Kitty will intervene on Bachman's behalf.

A few brief comments:

1) Note to Republicans - you're correct. We do not respect you, no longer fear you, and in many instances hate you outright. We will take great pleasure in your string of defeats come Tuesday next.

2) Saxby Chambliss is revealing himself as an openly racist jerk. Here's hoping he's one of the "string" menioned in #1, above.

3) Bachmann is just plain nuts, doesn't know what she's talking about, and may well lose in a district Republican enough to elect lawn furniture to office if it ran on a Republican ticket. Here's hoping that the district is redrawn enough after the 2010 census to split the Republicanism among several adjoining districts, leaving them less opportunity here in MN.

The soundtrack for the post-election video of Bachmann's highlights should be Paul Simon's "Still Crazy After All These Years."

You mean Mr. Kleefeld has shown himself to be a race baiter. Read the article liked. Mr. Kleefeld chnged "He predicted the crowds of early voters would motivate Republicans to turn out" from the article to "the long crowds of black early-voters will have a secondary effect on his own turnout."

"Rotten" ACORN Ad Funded by Anti-Minimum Wage Group
by Mosi Secret, ProPublica - October 29, 2008 6:00 pm EDT
Tags: Acorn, Elections

.The New York Times ran a full page advertisement today in the front section of the paper featuring an attack on ACORN, Directing readers to the Web site www.rottenacorn.com,the ad does not indicate who or what organization paid for it, but a click to the Rotten Acorn Web site reveals the source"the Employment Policies Institute.

The Institute, is connected with Rick Berman, a Washington lobbyist who for several years has been fighting ACORN"s efforts to increase the minimum wage at the state and federal levels. Berman could not be reached for comment. Among clients listed on his firm"s web site are the American Beverage Institute, a trade group of bars and restaurants, and the Center for Union Facts, which opposes "check card" organizing drives by labor.
Tim Miller, spokesman for the Employment Policies Institute, said his group timed the ad to take advantage of the flurry of negative publicity about ACORN.
, the appearance of the Times ad is curious for the people at ACORN, who have battled Berman and his clients over minimum wage ballot initiatives in Florida, Missouri, Colorado, Ohio and Arizona, but not over presidential politics. "What we"ve been told is he"s a Republican Party operative above all else," said Steve Kest, executive director of ACORN. "He must have been recruited into this effort. Somebody is paying them to run this ad."

Eric, I'm calling false equivalence.

A macaca moment is when a racist gets caught acting like a racist, thus losing an election.

You may accuse Murtha of bad political judgment, when he correctly accused some west Pennsylvanians of being racists.

But it's not the same thing.

RE: Oregon 5th Congressional District

Mike Erickson has a ton of problems. In the primary he beat Kevin Mannix in a bitter race. Mannix ran for governor in 2002 and lost. He then served for 2 years as Chairman of the Oregon GOP. Bottom line is that Mannix was and is a favorite of the Republican Party in this state.

Mannix was viewed as the best candidate to take this swing district. Erickson had run against Rep. Darlene Hooley (D-OR) in 2006 and lost by a substantial margin for this district. The mainstream Oregon GOP backed Mannix in the primary and they weren't too happy when Erickson won the race.

Erickson has had no 'national money' at all. Mannix has refused to endorse his race and Oregon's last statewide elected Republican, i.e. Senator Gordon Smith is in too much trouble saving his own seat to be too involved in any way with Mike Erickson.

Kurt Schrader will be the next Congressman in this district.

The latest on the Mitchy & Lunsford war from my amigo in KY:

Lunsford: He'll tell grand jury he was 'illegally bugged'
http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20081030/NEWS0106/810300431

The thing is going to the Grand Jury.

NRSC d-bag Richard St. Onge III has essentially admitted putting the recorder on Lunsford's podium (forced to admit given credible witnesses), but swears up and down that it "was simply trying to obtain a good recording."

Great point that "surreptitiously recording someone is a class D felony." St. Onge III may get thrown under the bus on this one.

I don't think anyone would cry if Murtha lost.

user-pic

Why?

If Murtha lost for being an old-fashioned pork barreler, and was replaced by someone who believes in good government, than I'd agree with you.

If he lost for insulting the racists-for-Jeebus crowd, and got replaced by a Jean Schmidt clone, than I have to say no.
