A Day At The Congressional Races
Bachmann Challenger's Fundraising Skyrockets
The campaign of Elwyn Tinklenberg, the Democratic challenger against Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), tells Election Central that they've raised $650,000 online since her now-infamous McCarthyite appearance on Hardball. This is an astonishing number for a House race by any measure, and even more special in light of the fact that this is nearly twice his cash-on-hand at the end of September.
McConnell: I Would Still Back Iraq War, "Regardless Of The Initial Justification"
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) reaffirmed that he would have voted to authorize the Iraq War, even knowing now that there were no weapons of mass destruction. "Regardless of the initial justification, I don't think the Middle East or the world would be better off if he was there," McConnell told the Courier-Journal editorial board. "I think that is a substantial improvement."
Merkley Ad: Don't Believe Smith's Deception In Linking Himself To Dems
Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-OR) has this new ad going after incumbent Republican Gordon Smith, who has run ads in this blue state tying himself to Barack Obama and his Democratic co-Senator Ron Wyden. This new spot reminds voters that Obama and Wyden are in fact for Merkley:
"So don't believe Gordon Smith's deceptive ads," the announcer says. "Smith votes with George Bush 90% of the time."
Polls: Tight Race For Senate In Minnesota
Two new polls show the Minnesota Senate race going down to the wire. From Research 2000: Al Franken (D) 41%, Sen. Norm Coleman (R) 39%, and Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley at 18%, with a ±4.5% margin of error. From SurveyUSA: Coleman 41%, Franken 39%, and Barkley 18%, with a ±3.9% margin of error. The SurveyUSA poll is the first one in weeks to give Coleman even a nominal lead, and a far cry from their previous poll in early October, which had him up 43%-33%.
Poll: Dems On Track To Pick Up Illinois House Seat
A new poll by Bennett, Petts, & Normington (D), commissioned by the liberal blog Progress Illinois, finds Democrats way ahead for the open House seat of Rep. Jerry Weller (R-IL). The numbers: Debbie Halvorson (D) 50%, Marty Ozinga (R) 29%.
NRSC Ad: Musgrove Is Responsible For The Bad Economy
The NRSC has this new ad against Senate candidate Ronnie Musgrove (D-MS) saying that the poor economy would help his campaign. The ad then proceeds to blame Musgrove, who served one term as governor that ended five years ago, for the economic situation itself:
"Ronnie Musgrove says the failing economy is going to help his campaign -- the economy Ronnie Musgrove helped damage."

$650,000. You have to know that Norm Coleman, among others, wishes like hell she'd kept her fucking mouth closed.
Too damn funny!

She actually was claiming over the weekend that her comments were misinterpreted.

Don't you just love the internet? Smack her in the face with her blatant lies!

I would apologize for Michelle (ma belle), but she's not in my district.
She is, however, an intense embarrassment to many Minnesotans. I am so glad Colin Powell called her out in public on her bullshit. Methinks she needs to reread her Good Samaritan story in the Bible she doth love to bang.

My favorite comment a while back was from a Minnesotan who remarked that Minnesotans in general are accustomed to mentally prefacing any news story about Bachmann with "In another completely insane statement, ..."

She actually was misinterpreted. What she meant to say is the media and the congress should be investigated to see who is patriotic, or not. Maybe she could get FOX to do it, since they don't represent either!

Bachmann's excuse now is "I didn't bring up un-American, Matthews did":
I love how she's contradicted in the very next paragraph.
Go Tinklenberg!

Anybody who does a zoom on Bachman's comments will notice her eyes were dialated and blood shot. This chick was undoubtedly on something. Not that she is not capable of saying something stupid when she is straight!

The race for Bachmann's district is close, isn't it? Have they done any polls on it anytime lately?
October 20, 2008 11:23 AM | Reply | Permalink
Latest has Michell Eichmann up 37-41 so, if that poll is correct, its winnable.

It wasn't close last week, but it will be now. (I think that poll vrk references is a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee poll, so it's probably biased against Bachmann.)
A GOP write-in candidate jumped in this weekend, which can only help Tinklenberg. They guy got 14% against Bachmann in the primary, and is giving it another go.

The nice part about this is that this guy will siphon away votes from Bachmann. I'll have to watch my local stations to see Bachmann's reaction to being set packing...that'll be sweet.

More McConnell:
"I would support more de-regulation, despite the current economic crisis."
"I would support the building of the Edsel..."
"I would support The Patriots over the Giants..."

To do otherwise would be transparently UnPatriotic.

lol I didn't even notice that.

"Regardless of the initial justification, I don't think the Middle East or the world would be better off if he was there," McConnell told the Courier-Journal editorial board. "I think that is a substantial improvement."
And the repug-excusing CJ responded by endorsing Lunsford.

As of 3PM this afternoon, Tinklenberg's campaign has three quarters of a million dollars. Guess they just visited their box at the PO for the snail mail donations.
Nancy Pelosi was in town today for a different campaign, but was asked about Bachmann and called her "Bankrupt" -- which may be an apt way of putting it, given the response benefiting Tinklenberg. Anyhow, Pelosi's reference was to Bachmann's bankruptcy on issues -- and she ticked off a nice long list of her un-Minnesotan votes.
Apparently Tinklenberg is getting cheers when he shows up at a cafe to campaign -- which is how you campaign in the 6th District, over coffee and sticky rolls. He's the new local hero who will now treat the Twin Cities Media Market to wall to wall TV Commercials into November.
