Union Drops Big Mail Blitz Hammering McCain's "Fundamentals" Comment
In the latest effort by the big unions to try to fill the gap left behind by the absence of third-party spending on the left, the AFL-CIO is hitting the Rust Belt states with a massive mail blitz hammering John McCain over his claim that the "fundamentals" of the economy are "strong."
This mailer will go out to more than one million union households in the swing states of Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania (click on the images to enlarge):
The piece is the latest sign of just how up for grabs Reagan Dems remain in the key battlegrounds -- and the urgency the big unions feel about the need to off-set McCain's ongoing populist makeover, via ads and speeches, in these critical states.

AFL-CIO still delivering!

Looks like an effective ad, I wonder why they would "drop" it.

"Drop" as in drop shipment, so "dropping" it in the mail. It always gives me heart failure to see this usage of "drop" in TPM headlines until I figure out that they don't mean "drop" as it they were gonna do it, but now they're not.
TPM!! Drop this usage of "drop" - save my poor heart.

Yep, that was my point.

C'mon, guys. We've been reading these ultra-hip posts here at TPM for a while. Now we know what it means to "drop" a "sick" mailer that's, like, really "bad", man.
Now we're one of the cool kids; we can use the lingo, too.
It's not like TPM has any aspirations to be a real news site. (I wish, but that's just me.)

P.S. Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. So maybe the headlines should all be written in Pirate speak.

Methinks Rasmussen poll is erm off and has been for a few days, tied? Yeh sure every other poll out there is showing Obama not just in the ascendency but in some cases pulling away and yet here we have Rasmussen hanging on to the cliff of tight race meme BS.

Rasmussen adjusts it's polls for partisan id, meaning that it takes it's numbers, and weights them by what it considers an "accurate" representation of who'll be voting. What this does is limit the amount of movement that you'll see in Rasmussen's tracker because the results are filtered through what he's expecting to see.
This effectively nullifies any real purpose for even having a tracking poll, but they're pretty much useless toys anyway.

SurveyUSA is red tinting-shifting pools way more. Compare their Florida poll yesterday against tge other poll released.
Heck, download the poll info from http://www.electoral-vote.com for the last coupla months and compare SurveyUSA against other pollsters' results . . . the correlation between the Republican doing better on their polls is beyond erie.

Helps keep the heat on the rust belt so McCain has to spend more time and resources there.
Obama now down in Florida. Biden in Virginia. Since McCain and Palin have to campaign together, they can't be in two places at once.

The piece is good. But it misquotes McCain on the front -- he did not say "Fundamentally Strong". That's the kind of silly mistake that the other side picks up and rightly says we're taking his words out of context. What he said was bad enough - c'mon, just stick to the facts. Just because they are irresponsible doesn't mean we should be. I hope they'll be more careful.
