Rudy's Speech Goes Long, Forces Cancellation Of Palin Introductory Video
Wow. Rudy, who was clearly enjoying his speech as much as he enjoyed his trips to his command-center love nest, ran so long that the GOP convention planners were forced to skip over the planned video introducing Sarah Palin.
As soon as Rudy left the stage, Palin came out to speak -- even though the schedule clearly said there would be a video tribute first.
Rudy!

I've thought so since I heard her sportscasting and her first speech after getting the VP nod. Didn't want to say so before coz I thought that would just sound mean-spirited but after hearing the vitriol spewed by Romney and Giuliani et al, I'm in no mood to be pleasant. I would rather listen to nails on a chalkboard than Sarah Palin speak.
On a superficial level, I'm glad that the McCain/Palin is Titanic 08 in motion coz the thought of hearing that voice for the next 4 years is KILLING me.

Loose lips sink ships, anyone?
September 3, 2008 10:49 PM | Reply | Permalink
If I were in a position that is risky enough to require secret service (e.g. being nominated for VP) and my son were being deployed to Iraq like a walking target, the last thing I'd want is to draw international attention to this fact, actually. It makes me uncomfortable when politicians do it - Republicans OR Dems. Especially when details like their date of deployment and other security-risk details are given out like candy.
September 3, 2008 11:00 PM | Reply | Permalink
To McCain's credit, he stayed mum about his own sons' deployments until they got back.
On another note, at least one phrase, about going to the White House with "a servant's heart," is a classic evangelical-to-evangelical term.

Bullshit.
A four month old baby in good health will be fine just about anywhere as long as he's being held by someone who knows and loves him. I seriously doubt that even if the baby starting fussing he would have disturbed anyone in the hall. Of all the stupid things to criticize Palin for this has got to be the stupidest. Jonze, weren't you the one telling everyone to back off of the baby stuff? Now you are complaining about how other people take care of their kids. Geez.

Hey...I have a real question.
I just read over Palin's speech instead of listening to it, and there's something weird.
She has a line about having more nuclear energy, and the word is spelled out like this: "new-clear".
Was that a joke by somebody at TPM, or was that a real attempt to get her not to say "noo-kyoo-ler"?
Because if you just say new and then clear, you're close to the right pronunciation.
I thought Republicans LIKED "noo-kyuh-lur". Go figure.

I was more concerned about her presentation skill, how well she would portray herself as a likable and capable hockey mom and gov executive. But it turned out she was a god-awful speaker even with the help of the prompter. Too rehearsed, too choreographed, too mean, too nasty, and no real reformer image.
And from that speech, I don't expect her to ace either press conference or debate.

Mine, too. The speech was and was not a birthday present. I suspect she will get eaten up the press when she has to go off print...especially when confronted by the fact of her record. Can't wait until she gets asked about the line-item veto of over $1 million for the Covenant House, a program in Alaska for unwed mothers. She ain't no "compassionate conservative." And she ain't on fiscal conservative...given the fact that the Alaska state budget is funded by oil revenues and Federal dollars. The citizens GET money from their government. That approach prepares her to make hard choices of the President? It was tough to listen to the speech, but I think she will eventually get chewed up for it...especially the outright lies she told after the contradictions were pointed out already (re bridge to nowhere...) Let the games begin...

If he has a problem with the way things have gone recently he can point his finger right at his coiffed, robotic face. And who is he to call anyone an East-coast elitist?
Rudy...Rudy. You diseased little man. So in love with your own Sylvesterian voice that you fuck up the evening for the VP nominee. You love those personal insults, don't you, little man? Boy, elementary school must have been rough on you.
