Right Wing Group Running Ad In Michigan Starring Reverend Wright

The Freedom's Defense Fund, a right wing group with ties to Obama slime-ographer Jerome Corsi, is up in Michigan with this ad attacking Obama and starring Jeremiah Wright and his "God damn America" rant:

It's unclear how long the ad has been running, and how big the buy is, but The New York Times reports this morning that the spot is running in Macomb County, Michigan, a stronghold of white, unionized auto workers -- the latest in a wave of very targeted advertising by outside groups that appear to have been set up for the sole purpose of sliming Obama in one way or another.

The Freedom's Defense Fund, for its part, describes itself rather vaugely as devoted to the "principles of limited government" and against the "nanny state," and Corsi is a paid consultant.

haha, excellent!

Rezko. Now Wright. The Right just wasted their last bullet.

Yep, and 45 days out! (or whatever, I'm too lazy to do the math)

Yesterday, the Daleys, today, back to Wright. Who cares? Old story. McCain is running around like either a headless chicken or the Queen of Hearts. Off with Cox's head even though the President can't fire the SEC chairman.

It's impossible for an ad to be running just in Macomb county. If it is running in Macomb, it is running in Wayne County (Detroit) as well. I imagine that for every white Macomb voter it turns off from Obama, it will drive another black Detroit resident to the polls.

user-pic

very interesting, can you elaborate?

Macomb County is adjacent to and directly north of Wayne County. They are served by the same TV and radio stations.

We've been waiting for this all election, and here we go . . . about three weeks ahead of schedule! I wonder how long this meme will last in the MSM and how Obama will respond. He's had lots of time to plan his own attack - Haggee? Keating 5? Cindy's addictions?

I say ignore it. This shit is such old news.

I say "God Damn America" every time we stick our noses in places where they shouldn't be.

The Wright powder would have been more effective in the last two weeks of the election. In fact, I've wondered if it wouldn't behoove Obama to run Rev. Wright ads through a covert, shadowy 527, and time them during a time like now (economic collapse), in an effort to completely take the air out of the GOP tires. I know it's shady Rovian bollshit, but it'd be like a Rev. Wright vaccine against any 11th hour "angry black-guy" attacks.

Exactly. Most everyone in the country right now is saying "goddamn America".

user-pic

"Exactly. Most everyone in the country right now is saying 'goddamn America'."
Nope, still just you guys...

...and Palin's secessionist husband.

user-pic

This is just the beginning. Just one state. I really hope folks don't listen to this garbage.

As worried as I was back in the primary when Rev Wright reared his head, after watching this commercial, it seems pretty ineffective.

I just can't imagine, given the amount of air time Wright had during the primaries, that there are many voters left who would turn against Obama over Wright who haven't already.

Fuck 'em. Let them pour their ad money down the drain.

The only folks who are gonna un-mute the TV for this one, were never going to vote for O anyhwow, IMO.

It's their money. If they want to waste it, that's fine.

Maybe it was just the small youtube window, but I couldn't make out the last line very well. "You should know who Obama's friends are"?

user-pic

That's what it said...probably to be followed by the whole list Hannity reads every day.

The people who watch Hannity or take him seriously aren't voting for Obama anyway. So, Hannity can froth at the mouth all he wants about Ayers and Wright and Rezko. I'm not worried about Sean Hannity's influence.

According to their web site they support the following candidates. People should make sure none of these bozo's get elected.

Keith Fimian (VA–11)
Thelma Drake (VA–2)
U.S. Congressman Paul C. Broun, M.D. (GA–10)
Senator Norm Coleman (MN Senate) (MN Senate)
U.S. Congressman Bill Sali (ID–1)
Senator John Sunnunu (NH–Senate)
Mike Sodrel (IN–9)
Chris Hackett (PA–10)
Pete Olson (TX–22)
George Phillips (NY–22)
LTC Allen B. West, U.S. Army (Ret.) (FL–22)
Steve J. Hudson, M.D. (MD–8)
Tom Rooney (FL–16)
Congressman Robin Hayes (NC–08)
Congressman Geoff Davis (KY–04)
Deborah Honeycutt (GA–13)
Duane Sand (ND–1)
Congressman Virgil Goode (VA–5)
Lt. Col. William Russell (Ret.) (PA–12)

Since they have already used the Rev. Wright grenade up there in Michigan, is it okay for a Dem group to drop the atomic Keating Five bomb there?

If this is not a signal of desperation, I don't know what desperation really means...

Exactly, my thoughts too. I mean if that's all they got we're looking golden here.

Who had Sept. 24 in the Wright reappearance betting pool? We might need to get a ruling as to whether this counts since it didn't direct from the campaign or RNC.

I put my nickel down on Oct. 16 the day after the final debate so Johnny doesn't have to look Obama in the eye after going with the final sleaze bullet.

Not me. I lost 10 bucks today.

My first thought is that this is a misfired bullet altogether. The Wright thing is a dead issue. Over. Done. Yawn. Hard to get a fire going with nothin but dead coals, ya know?

The rightwingers have already successfully turned off millions of racist and conservative voters against Obama with this attack. They must be betting that they can bag a few more of any really uninformed voters who haven't yet heard about Rev. Wright, or Ayers, or Rezko, or any other terrorist/thug/radical they want to throw at him.

Low blow, yes. But also effective.

"Meet" Rev. Wright? Doesn't everyone in America already know about him? Well, I guess we'll see soon enough whether this is old news, but it sure feels like it.

No worries, here, folks. With the financial sector in a complete meltdown threatening everyone's retirements and investments, there are bigger issues this year that will drown out this noise. Seems like Bush is again sticking it both Dems AND the GOP now by leading us into this horrible mess.

Please remind me why it is against "rules" to meet the Keating five?

Great AD, it needs to run Nationally so Americans can see what this phony empty suit Oilbama is all about. Unless you include voting for the Bish Cheney Energy Bill Oilbama has never done a Bi-Partisan thing in his life. Oilbama has a profound lack of respect for America as shown with his behavior on the flag pin, the failure to observe decorum regarding the national anthem, the fake presidential seal, the printed announcement of his speech in Germany, the upside down flag on the tickets and behind Biden at the Convention, his airplane with painted-over American flag, and his detached and callous appearance at Ground Zero. By this behavior, Oilbama is mocking America, cheapening its decorum and symbols.

Oilbama? Which party's energy policy describes it as "drill baby drill?"

How do you characterize Obama's appearance at ground zero as callous? He was with McCain at the time, and both men threw flowers at the memorial site.

Obama looked thoughtful, respectful, and even prayerful, in my recollection.

The best thing about the primary inoculation for Rev. Wright is that it is now old news and won't be picked up by mainstream media and run in a loop. McCain's camp and their 527s will actually have to pay every time spots run as opposed to the free publicity they used to get before they excoriated the press.

My gut tells me that neither the Wright attack on Obama or the K5 attack on McCain are going to be nearly as effective as people think.

Why?

The Wright ad worked much better when Obama was still unknown and so was Wright. Lots of shock value. Now that Obama has thoroughly denounced Wright, left the church and has become much better known to the general public, I think it will be mostly ho-hum, we've been through this already.

As for the K5 attack, I think it is ancient history that most people know nothing about and it will be difficult to educate them on. Plus, there are plenty of fruitful lines of attack on McCain that are happening in the here and now (i.e. Rick Davis).

That said, this Wright attack is only running in a local area so the powder is still dry if McCain wants to take it national.

I think its like looking at a movie at age 35 that you had not seen since you were 12. People like nostalgia and done effectively, it could still evoke those old emotions of a 12 year old.

People has no interest in the truth or tangible facts. We like sensationalism. This country is like looking at a history book. Remember the old political cartoons mocking "yellow journalism"?

Again and again, we don't mind nostalgia. I better you don't remember the Great Depression, but we are about to know what that is like so we will have our nostalgia and "Greatest Generation".

I think America needs to seriously ask itself "How do we progress?". First, look back, learn, and don't repeat past mistakes. Also, account for the mistakes that were made because there are many mistakes that much of America is still feeling the effect of today.

My doubt regarding the K5 attack may also have to do with the fact that was only 16 or 17 years old when that was going on so obviously not paying any attention. Of course I remember the S&L crisis, but who did what and why - not so much.

Since 30 and younger are already locked into Obama, maybe the K5 attack would be more effective for say 45 and up, who were old enough to remember and care about what happened back then.

This is one of the reasons,I'll never understand
why any minority, would ever belong to the "repugnican" party.

The way they use the race
"dog whistle." Why would any AA,Jew, Hispanic et al, want to be in a party that wouldn't vote for them, because of race?

I've spoken to various minorities and it baffled
them too.

Doesn't it seem like an oxymoron to hear of a *repugnican Jew*,in the same party with,neo-nazi's
skin heads, and kkk, people who will kill them before, ever voting for them ?

Wright is old news. The GD America quote was so overplayed months ago, it has lost its bite.

I say Obama should make this blow up - tie this to McCain and force this issue now, in the midst of the economic meltdown rather than allowing the McCain camp to play it in the last week of October.

This idea could be effective. But Obama (or someone like him) should only mention it once. Just to say, "Look at what John McCain and his friends are doing while the rest of us are struggling with a national crisis. Is that leadership?" Then leave it alone. If nothing else, it could taint the Wright line of attack further heading into these last weeks of the campaign.

An intelligent person would ask "What does this have to do with being President?".

I understand that some people would say that the congregation doesn't love America, but when has America ever been asked to be loved? Democracy in its truest form, without political parties, cultivates descent. The Constitution was written in a way to protect individuals from any possible law that man could impose one another, but we have lost sight of that.

In the 60's much worse was said and done without the application of the action to construe the individual’s patriotism. You may listen to almost every speech spoken by "American's Greatest Social Hero" Martin Luther King Jr. You know we all love MLK. I also notice that MLK is usually America benchmark for black America, non-violent and rhetorical. But, there nemesis, Malcolm X, usually have cover the other side of the spectrum. Both of these men were from religious avenues, America really didn't want to see the "possibility" of the recreation of a Malcolm X or worse, their idol, Martin Luther King.

So, essentially being able to tie religious descent of a potential "martyr" of Black America ta a political figure diminishes the impact of both. This actually saves both of their lives, but slows progress and keeps their cities from burning, again for the third, fourth, or fifth time, depending on how you look at it.

Jonze- I think your abosolutely right...It would show McCain to be the complete childish prick he is... and position Obama as the adult... In the midst of an Economic Crisis these guys want to play politics... I can see it now.... and then transition back to busting McCain in his Mutha F*cking MOUTH on the Economy.........

Not to mention McCain was using Hagee and Parsley to pander to their base - he slammed them in 2000, reached out in 2008, and then the moment he realizes they've said some pretty outrageous things (like Rev. Wright) he bails without a second though.

Also Palin has her own nutter Priest problems, including being on stage and blessed by an African witch hunter and the Jews for Jesus folks.

How can they tie Rev. Wright around Obama's neck when everybody in west Michigan has "heard" that he's a Muslim?

Oops, and Macomb County too. And the U.P.

user-pic

OK, so now can we bring up Palin's wacky preacher and her separatist husband?
Better to ignore the whole thing and focus on the real issues.

user-pic

Focusing on the issues has never won an election. Karl Rove had it right, horrendously, cynically right: slime thy enemies.

So -- not Obama or Biden -- the 527s need to bring up:
- the "C" word and the trollop
- Keating 5
- McCain's deregulation d'jour world view until 20 minutes ago
- etc. etc. etc.

Hell, these aren't even lies.

If they want to get real dirty, they should pull a "Rove", and fake a medical report showing high blood pressure, the resurgence of melanoma, seizures from a mix of sleep meds and excessive alcohol, and medications he took for gonorrhea after his affair with Vicki Iseman.

Oh, I'm just warming up...

These medical reports don't come from the 527s; they're "discovered" in John McCain's medical files.

The 527s just report on 'em.

Let's see.. what else?
(1)
They could also pull up the old "McCain fathered a black baby" crap that the Bushies whacked him with in the 2000 election. Boy, would THAT be fun.
(2) Propagate thru anonymous "sources", the fact that "it is an obvious lie that McCain and Palin are having an affair". Preposterous! and all the images are photoshopped.

..it would leave the MSM asking, "where are these photoshopped images?!?" instead of "forget it: it's a lie".

We all knew this was coming, but it pales in comparision to this......

JOHN MCCAIN VOTED 3 TIMES TO PRIVATIZE SOCIAL SECURITY.

......that's the most effective truthful attack line ever.

There is a video over at Daily Kos of Palin getting blessed by her Witchunter Preacher. He wants only Born Agains in the White House - Living Churches across the Country, Christian Kids taking over our schools and "Devil Casting" anyone who isn't Christian. He is one scary person and Palin suscribes to being prayed into the VP slot by this man? Very worrying!

i'm not that religious but does anyone else believe that rev. wright coming out after obama had an insurmountable lead in feb. was a blessing in disguise?

came out before it could mortally wound his candidacy. allowed him to make a significant speech about it. and it was beat to death for 3 months.

so was rezko. so was bitter. so was ayers.

those are the only 4 things they got and they're all played out.

They got nuthin'! But I'm nervous about the October surprise. Dubya still wants to be dictator.

Polls show Obama down, so the ad may have had an impact.

GregorZap...I think this 700 billion dollar rolling fund is the October suprise, or it is intended to be the funding for some military surprise, which, with the broad unaccountability asked for in the Bush Plan it wouldn't surprise me if they had another "Shock and Awe" in the planning. I've heard a lot of rumbling about military movement around Iran. Now North Korea and Pakistan, two unstable countries are showing destablization.

I hope Obama has been boning up for this debate Friday. I hope he has strong, short, intelligent responses with just enough humor at McCain's expense for a good showing. Calm, resolute, thoughtful and wise. All things McCain ain't.

I look forward to the ads showing Palin being blessed as a tool to end witchcraft.

5:00: “We need God taking over our education system. If we have God in our schools, we will not have our kids being taught how to worship Buddha, how to worship Muhammad. We will not have in the curriculum witchcraft and sorcery.”

5:35: “The other area is the media. We need believers in the media. We need God taking over the media in our lives.”

7:00: Palin, on stage, is blessed to be God’s instrument in government, including that she be used as a tool to combat witchcraft.

Rev. Wright will be a turnoff to some Michigan voters who aren't already familiar. But, I wonder how many will give a damn about Rev. Wright when they face foreclosure and job loss. Frankly, Rev. Wright saying that "the chickens have come home to roost" can now see that the chickens have, indeed, come home to roost.

Also, Rev. Wright's antics haven't cost anyone their job or home.
