Palin's Speech Watched By Nearly As Many As Obama's Acceptance

Sarah Palin's speech last night was a ratings hit, with an estimated 37 million viewers according to Nielsen ratings of the major broadcast and cable news networks. That's just shy of Nielsen's figure of 38 million people who watched Barack Obama's speech last week on those same outlets.

We don't know yet how may viewers will be persuaded into McCain's camp by the speech -- likely it was made up of a large number who were already for him or already against him. But no matter what, she's made a big impression on the voting public.

I thought her speech was full of Schmidt.

Awwww....that sucks. That's my maiden name....does that mean I'm full of it, too? :(

user-pic

It was probably for the most part the same group of political junkies who watched the Obama speech.

Surely you mean "Mean Jean" Schimdt (R-OH) -- another great Republican scream queen.

I wager this is as much about curiosity as anything else. People wanted to, for starters, find out who this person is, and also out of curiosity in response to the controversies. I don't think this will result in the kind of bounce we've seen in wake of the DNC.

user-pic

Ugh - and they got to hear the pundits fall all over themselves to praise it to the heavens.

I think it's safe to say we'll see a sizable bounce in 3 or 4 days from now.

http://strategy08.wordpress.com

Maybe she'll get a bounce, maybe not. I think a lot of people watched because they were curious about this person getting all that negative press. It's possible that if enough people disliked her tone and noticed the lies and absence of substance, the high viewership might backfire on them.

If the focus groups cited by Josh are anything to go by, it could just be curiosity.

I watched and I'll never vote for her.

I wouldn't have watched but my (indie-leaning but pro-Obama) girlfriend wanted to and so we did. Curiosity. Naturally, we were both horrified from the minute Sock Puppet walked on the stage. She is definitely way more centrist than me, but she thinks SP is appalling. She is particularly horrified by the idea that the Ice Queen would leave her special needs baby and teenage pregnant daughter at a crucial time in their lives in order to hold political office. She is very distressed by that, as am I.

I think that's right. A lot of curiosity. Hopefully that many tune in for McCain.

user-pic

The funny thing is the left built up all of the buzz...people tuned in to see for themselves...this is so much fun.

user-pic

And they saw that she's just another big GOP meanie with no plans for the economy, foreign policy, or anything else of any substance whatsoever.

user-pic

Exactly - that's why I love this.

O god I love this -if people hadn't watched I might be a little more worried. They did - thank you, goddesses.

They saw a mean girl from Junior High dragging her family around like a sideshow, while she took cutesy shots at real political leaders.

Yeah that really was going to be an easy sell for the Repugs.

BWWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahaha!

I read the comments on her speech at the CNN site and was surprised--several pages of comments, and all but two or three were turned off by Failin. Too negative, too shrill(lol), too much like the nasty girl from high school. I was actually surprised they all had the same reaction.

Millions of people tuned in...and were horrified.

She is the Lipstick on the Pig

Big impression, small mind.

Sarah Palin did inspire me -- I just donated another $100 to Obama/Biden.

watch out America, a pit bull (with lipstick) is on the loose.

user-pic

Good!

The more the merrier. Bring em all on - I want everyone to see what the Repugs think is a Vice President.

Ugh, that's annoying.

user-pic

Yep, a great comic, based on nothing remotely resembling reality.

Still waiting on you in the Roundup thread, by the way.

Hey, thanks for dropping by and doing your part to energize the base.

Yep, a great comic, based on nothing remotely resembling reality.

Still waiting on you in the Roundup thread, by the way.

Here, let me recap for you and we can continue it here:

SFC
...no asking if she'll be able to give enough attention to the job with 5 kids is sexist. Bill Clinton had enogh time to get a few blow jobs in between breifings, I'm sure she'll be able to squeeze in a diaper change if necessary.

HyperRevue
Was it also sexist when the same questions were asked of John Edwards??

SFC
They weren't, or of Biden...they were heros for "soldiering on" through tough times.

HyperRevue
Hardly.

http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/bookman/

"Rush Limbaugh said the Edwardses were turning their eyes to the campaign when they instead should turn their eyes to God."

"Katie Couric, in a “60 Minutes” interview, accused Edwards of mining his wife’s condition for sympathy votes: 'Even those who may be very empathetic to what you all are facing might question your ability to run the country at the same time you’re dealing with a major health crisis in your family,' Couric told Edwards."

"And in Time magazine, columnist Jay Carney wrote that “surely many average Americans have to be wondering at what point the candidate will decide that his duties as husband and father to three children, including a 6- and 8-year-old, trump his duty to his country and the cause of winning the White House.”

Okay. Your turn.

If he can't answer with "She's got more experience..." then he won't reply at all. He's kind of chicken that way...

No shit. And to think, I used to stick up for him when people called him a troll. I was clearly wrong.

user-pic

Reposted from last thread:

OT: Obama just responded to the Big Speech (paraphrased):

"Why aren't you responding more to Palin?"

OBAMA: Because I'm campaigning against John McCain, and her policies are the same as his.

Reaction to comments about his experience as a community organizer:

OBAMA: How can they think that is not relevant? Who are THEY fighting for if they think fighting for workers in the community is not important?

Regarding the scrutiny Palin has received

OBAMA: This is nothing new. I expect that she wants to receive the same scrutiny as any male candidate, which includes questioning experience. I've been going through this for 19 months, she's been going through it for 4 days.

Laughed off Palin's slams, saying he'd been called worse on the basketball court.

Pitch-perfect, if you ask me.

user-pic

Yep - I love it - it was perfect.

I want them to unleash Hillary on her.

user-pic

She'll be on the trail on Monday; it will be interesting to see what she says. I'm guessing she'll only mention Palin obliquely.

Agreed. It was perfect.

That's great news... 37 million got to see this smug Republican woman read a Karl Rove script.

If she had done some heart to heart interviews before this, that might've swayed people.

Not anymore.

Even greater news: 37 million people get to say "WTF? But I saw that TelePrompter! Three friggin' times!"

Even greater news: 37 million people get to say "WTF? But I saw that TelePrompter! Three friggin' times!"

How fascistic of you: Americans and the free press have no right to ask tough questions of would-be leaders?

Go to North Korea, you'll fit in better there with the "shut up and obey" style politics.

Curiosity and celebrity factor, nothing more.

Obama's been campaigning all year, you'd think people might be sick of hearing him. And yet he still outdraws (barely) a novelty act and potential car wreck.

She did achieve her 15 minutes of fame, now the works begins.

user-pic

Good, she sucked. Two republicans who can't give a speech against two eloquent dems. Game on!

Stock market is down more than 340 points. Wonder if that's the market's reaction to Palin's speech?

I'm sure the conversion to TPM Palin Central helped.

Then there's the Palinton Post.

And DailyPalin.

And PalinLeft.

And The Palin Report.

And Time's PalinLand with Joe Klein and Ana Marie Cox.

Im actually pleased about this, as its always great news when that many people are interested in american politics. Its about time political speeches get watched by more people than American Idol.

Also, If I were a republican, id be worried having that many viewers tune into that nasty display. That was a speech for the converted, not for people yet to decide. It was tacky and contemptuous, which is a weird tone to have in a speech geared towards convincing the unconvinced. Best of luck to them with that. Makes me even happier to have Obama and the educated elite demeanor he brings to the office.

Whose children will Sarah Baracuda send to death in Iraq and Iran???

her own.

Palin isn't bright enough to write her own speech. The words from Palin's speech was Schmidt and Roves words.

user-pic

Ms New Clear?

I'd say you're right.

user-pic

It was indeed written, as speculated, by one of G.W. Bush's (obviously male) speechwriters.

user-pic

Ms New Clear?

I'd say you're right.

Good, that means 37 million people saw that ugliness firsthand.

Exactly. Direct exposure is the best antidote to corporate media spin.

Yeah, it might turn out to be a good thing afterall.

I think both bases were energized last night.

So basically we've now got a very large crowd of people who've had the Republican and Democratic cases made to them very directly. I wonder what the jury reaction after all that is.

What I would like to know is how many people watching the Palin speech were aware the speech given was written before Palin was chosen and retooled with some Palin references afterward, and how it would change their perceptions of the speech if they did know.

user-pic

Yie. Josh reports that Lynn Westmoreland called Obama 'uppity' today.

Do we start the 'N-Word' Countdown Clock now?

Wow. Just stunning.

“Sounds like Rep. Westmoreland should be careful throwing stones from his candidate's eight glass houses,” said Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor.

They will try to make this thing about identity politics from now until November. The best way to discredit that crap is to win.

Obama Camp already responded and said they didn't think it was racist but cautioned that Westmoreland shouldn't throw "elitist" stones from his candidates eight glass houses.

Which means, being translated, "I don't know about you, but we're staying on message."

user-pic

Wooo Hooo!

I am so not wringing my hands over her. I haven't.

She's the worst mistake in politics maybe ever.

The pundits did a good job promoting Palin and creating buzz and anticipation---that's what their good at. I assume many watched the 'lipstick pitbull's rant out of curiosity and were grossly disappointed.

Good, 37 million viewers got to watch a very tired-looking and very old-looking McCain at the end of her speech. . .Was it just me or did he look like the "Old Biff" in Back to the Future II.

This isn't good news.

user-pic

Yeah it is.

Think about it - of course they tuned in - they'd never heard of her.

Well they got a big fat look at her and if you think she did well- wow.

I really don't. I don't think she impressed anyone.

Jonze, Jonze Jonze. . .It may be great news if people see this for what it is (i.e., a tired worn out line of attack without any plan proffered) or it could be horrible news because the American people may want to walk "lock-step" behind a false leader. Maybe the right thinks they found their "Obama", but I tend to think these things will shake out in the end and we will win this thing. Stay optimistic.

user-pic

Jonze, Jonze... come in off the ledge, dude.

When I heard that 38 million people watched Obama's speech, I thought that there must have been a couple of million undecideds who came over to his side after watching him.

All I can think when I read that 37 million watched Palin is that there have to be a couple of million who thought to themselves, 'That chick is out of her fucking mind.'

Participation in democracy is always good news. Low information viewers seeing the thinly disguised klan rally called the republican convention: priceless. If people saw this and decided to vote FOR her because of it, I need to get out of this country.

Well, at my house during the Obama speech there were two TV's with 25 people watching. I don't know how many house parties there were for Obama, but I know there were a lot. I doubt there were very many last night. So, while this is a huge viewership for a vp speech, my guess is that a lot more people gathered to watch the Obama speech. Also, from the blogs I can see that there were a lot of curious Obama supporters watching Palin's speech. Let's see how many people tune into John McCain's speech tonight. Hopefully, he'll talk about the issues. It's their last chance.

user-pic

I wouldn't hold my breath = they don't have any issues to talk about except two: drill and Democrats suck.

And of course POW POW POW!

She really is looking like an answer to the Dems' Hillary - a polarizing figure that the base loves.

http://pufferfish.typepad.com/

37 million makes it even funnier that they didn't show the bio. They all tuned in wondering "why is this woman getting all this negative press". After the speech they were thinking, "oh, that's why".

You guys have to read this smack down of Rudy and Sarah Palin speech by Joe Klien, that he posted on his blog.
http://www.time-blog.com/swampland/2008/09/what_a_community_organizer_doe.html

user-pic

Good. This speech is not going to convince anybody, and it's practically guaranteed to overshadow McCain's.

So it's come to this: After scoffing for months at Obama's speechifying, conservatives are prepared to hand this woman the keys to the White House based on one speech.

user-pic

My favorite come back to the community organizer zing came from Mudflats

user-pic

O my god!

Do I love that!

Yup. No doubt Obama thinks of himself as Jesus' equal. No doubt.

user-pic

Love it. Excellent.

I was very pleased by Palin's speech. My greatest fear was that she would go all populist working-class heroine a la Hillary in the later primaries. Thereby blurring the difference between her and the Democrats. Instead she sounded like a typical Republican. I suspect McCain - emboldened by the ridiculous praise being heaped on Palin - will do the same tonight. This is good. It gives voters a clear choice: More of the same or a new direction.

Personally I'd like to get the meme out there that says - while the meanspirited nature of the Guliani & Palin speeches might be understandable, considering that they're not running on anything of substance; the reactions of the delegates on the floor with the USA USA chants was more like a brownshirt rally than a political convention.

I don't think letting the implication that they are the more patriotic party and we are the lesser slide is something I'd allow...

Make 'em own it.

Greg, what is wrong with this site. It keeps timing out. This is soooo annoying.

user-pic

I'm thrilled that we all got to see the Anita Bryant re-run. I watched the eager reader and it's hardly because she has a chance in hell of getting my vote. Rather I was interested in whether she would repeat the same falsehoods she has already spouted; like she told the feds if Alaskan's wanted a bridge [to nowhere] they'd build it themselves. She did reiterate such B.S. time and again.
In reality she told the folks on the slope they were "somewhere" to her. The dough came through and she spent it on other stuff more to her liking. That doesn't sound as 'reformist' as the B.S. line, though.
Who will illustrate reality in the Robber Baron media, now, that is the question.

Check the comments to Gloria Steinem's article. I'm not being a chicken little, but there is an unusual amount of support for Palin after her speech last night.

Money haul:

RNC has received a million dollars since Palinator's speech.

Obama? 8 million and counting, and they predict 10 million by the time of McCain's speech.

And a second thought:

If viewership goes down significantly tonight, what will that imply?

Gawker Slowdown.

There is no way I could have watched her.

Okay so my TV is broken, but still . . .

Al Hunt made an excellent point on Charlie Rose the other night. In 1984, when Mondale nominated Geraldine Ferraro for Vice President, there was unprecedented excitment and energy for the first couple of weeks, then it began to fell apart like a stage show of amatuers in Poughkeepsie.

Honestly, Obama is in the best position today to win this race then ever before. She hasn't faced single serious national interview since her nomination.

Another nice thing is it takes the pressure off Obama. Remember a week ago when it was "all about Obama"? Whether he could "close the deal"? And people were complaining about "Obama fatigue"?

The dynamics of the electorate are good. This in a paradoxical way will help. The Sarah Palin freakshow/sideshow won't help McCain but will eat up the clock and suck out the oxygen a bit.

Biden showed today he is focusing on the issues and McCain. Good move. Baracuda is a sideshow.

Hahahaha!

Damn me - you are right.

This is a big boost to Obama and Biden.

Struggles created by the same people that will be there if McCain is successful. Pardon my french but it's all just lipstick on a pig from a GOP creation. Since they can't compete debating the issues, belittle your opponent and attack with sarcasm and lies. I'm thoroughly disgusted by the repeated slimey tactics and if there truly was a time for change it is now!

As Ross Douthat says: Do not attack her ... Behave as though Sarah Palin does not exist.

Anything you have to say about Sarah Palin will carry just as much weight if aimed at McCain, his platform, or his campaign.

Don't mention her.
Ignore her.
Behave as though she doesn't exist.
Behave as though she is of so little importance that she's not worth the effort.
Behave as though she is not newsworthy.

It would be so discouraging for the GOP if she just dropped off the face of the (media) map. Attacking her will achieve nothing. Don't let them make an issue out of her. That's what she's there for. They want her to be THE issue. Cuz other than the liberal attack on her, they aint got any other issue.

Attack McCain
Attack McCain
Attack McCain

Keith Olbermann, please listen!

Really makes you glad they didn't get a chance to run that Bio video.

Even when they're on, they're off. Let's hope they maintain this level of execution for the rest of the election. It's another blizzard of new stuff today.(while Obama is plugging away, still on message).

I don't believe McCain expected everyone in the media to pretend he didn't do what he just did. If they let him pull back the curtain too far, it will expose the Wizard of Oz ...

Honestly, Obama is in the best position today to win this race then ever before. She hasn't faced single serious national interview since her nomination.

Having blogged about the come-hither charms of Sarah Palin, based only on her reputation and the raft of carefully-chosen still photos presented by the McCain campaign to the media, I felt I had to watch her convention speech last night and see what she is really like in motion.

I came away disappointed and very uneasy. No more steamy fantasies about her for me. She seemed creepy -- sassy and yet intolerantly provincial at the same time, with about as much gravitas as a high school student council candidate. Imagining her as our chief executive, or even as our number-one ambassador to the world, made me feel cold all over. If anyone could possibly garner less credibility on the world stage than George W. Bush, here she was.

As an effete east-coast intellectual, I almost choked on my latte as I watched the video of the audience ("crowd" would be too generous, given all the empty seats).

The GOP has clearly abandoned their pretense of inclusiveness, their attempts to make their party look like the real America. Amid an ocean of pale skin, neck wattles, receding hairlines, odd hats and ill-fitting clothes, and seemingly finger-painted "Hockey Moms 4 Palin" signs, I counted fewer than five blacks, and almost as few young people. Compared to the crowd at Obama's convention, the RNC seemed to proclaim that the future belongs to... the past?

But creepier still was the constant return to the image of various members of the Palin family holding and caressing the famous Down's Syndrome infant the candidate courageously decided not to abort, or so goes the heavy-as-lead narrative. I'm not sure why, if her campaign wants her family left out of the public eye, they would insist on inflicting the image of the baby being passed around like a plate of nachos.

I also want to be first on the record in saying that the hapless high-school kid that knocked up Palin's daughter Bristol is NOT a member of the Palin family, no matter how many anti-reality spells the Republicans try to cast over the arena.

What the hell was this Young Stud of the Klondike doing onstage?! Whose idea was that?! Over here we have Obama, his wife and daughters, and over here... Palin, her family, and... a kid who got laid!

See hypocrisy's genitals! See family re-defined! See the vice-presidential statutory baby-daddy!

Look, if Bristol were my daughter, impregnated in an illegal, premarital, underage booty-call, I would be chasing that kid off the stage with my beloved lightweight aluminum Smith & Wesson .38 Special, not foisting him at the septuagenarian McCain for the Least-Comfortable Hug Ever. (Or was it a handshake? By that time I was so numb McCain could have sunk his incisors into the kid's neck and drank his blood and it would have failed to shock me.)

Come see me at www.guntotingliberal.blogspot.com!

I GURANTEE she gets more viewers than John McCain. A risk of overshadowing him and making this race a referendum on Palin? Interesting...

McCain/Palin 08

They shall bring change to Washington:)

We'll get an even more freakish catastrophe than the current Republican administration.

It's funny to compare and contrast Sen. Obama's first big speech on the national stage with Gov. Palin's. Obama's 2004 DNC keynote address was all about bridging gaps, building bridges, and conjuring up a vision of American politics that moved beyond party lines. That was Obama's introduction to the nation and to the political and media establishment. And it's no small part of why he is now the Democratic nominee. His remarks spoke to something deep and buried in the electorate. It captured the imagination. Rhetoric, sure, but good rhetoric.

Then there's Palin's first big speech to the nation, which, like Obama's, also took place at a party convention. This one was divisive, petty, dismissive, sarcastic, and, in some places, downright nasty. Long on political attacks against the usual lefty boogeymen(the media, "elites," etc.), and short on answers to the myriad problems facing the country. Just more divide and conquer, play to the base, throw 'em red meat speechifying. Granted, she had to speak as a VP candidate, the chosen "pit bull with lipstick," but still, there are an awful lot of Democrats and Independents in this country the GOP is purportedly putting first.

Obama's 2004 DNC keynote launched him because there was something honest and unexpected about it. Palin's speech had neither quality.

A note of caution from Glenn Greenwald, who's written a book on the topic of how Repugs win elections by attacking and demonizing Democrats and keeping the focus on personalities and away from issues:

Here's an interesting piece I saw on a political blog here in Ohio.

The GOP's One-Night Stand

Many Republicans are having a love affair with Sarah Palin — or perhaps infatuation is a better word, as most don't know much about her beyond her charming demeanor and twinkling eyes that leave them feeling swept away.

The GOP faithful were jealous about the "enthusiasm gap" their party was suffering due to the young, charismatic and handsome Barack Obama. Now they have the young, charismatic and beautiful Palin to call their own.

But as the afterglow begins fading from Palin's Wednesday night speech at the GOP national convention in St. Paul, some party members are waking up to face sobering truths about her in the harsh daylight of the morning after.

No, I’m not referring to the fact that the Alaskan governor opposes abortion under almost any circumstance, vigorously supports gun ownership or doesn’t believe humans are responsible for global warming. Those are views she shares with most of her newfound followers.

I am referring to her views on more obscure topics that place her squarely on the loopy, far-right fringe of American politics, views that she carefully avoided in St. Paul.

These include her membership in The Alaska Independence Party, where she has advocated that Alaska should secede from the United States and form its own nation.

It also includes her frightening statement during a sermon she once gave at her Pentecostal church: “War in Iraq is a messianic affair in which the U.S. could act out the will of the Lord.” Depending on whose “lord” she’s referring to, that phrase could just as easily come out of the mouth of a radical Islamic jihadist.

Just a few months ago Palin said she didn’t know enough about the U.S. troop surge to determine if it was working. She’s obviously studied up enough since last week to declare at the GOP convention Wednesday that “victory is in sight” in the war.

More disturbingly, though, while Palin was mayor of Wasilla, she asked the town librarian if she “could live with censorship of library books.”

And with a straight face Wednesday night, she told the crowd in St. Paul that she opposed the so-called “bridge to nowhere,” a $398 million boondoggle pushed by Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska). But she initially supported the project and, as the Associated Press reports, “In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation.”

Yet none of these disturbing items give many Republican faithful a whit of concern. Their response shows they value style over substance.

Like most conservative Republicans, Palin relishes playing the role of martyr and placing the blame for her problems on the Big Bad Media. Except when Palin zealously courts media exposure that will benefit her.

As Politico.com columnist Roger Simon wrote, “Sarah Palin wanted the media to report on her teen-age son, Track, who enlisted in the Army on Sept. 11, 2007, and soon will deploy to Iraq. Sarah Palin did not want the media to report on her teen-age daughter, Bristol, who is pregnant and unmarried. Sarah Palin thinks that one is good for her campaign and one is not, and that the media should report only on what is good for her campaign.”

But, hey, the governor's a spirited little firecracker, so we can ignore all of that, right?

With his tabloid heroine having exited the stage McCain's ratings will drop significantly tonight. The trash-TV audience will all switch over to watch that nice Irish boy, Barry O'Bama make his debut with Bill "Oh-Really".

Listen:

The Uglicans like Palin over McCain. He didn't get his pick and they don't like him anyway.

Rove doesn't like him. Gingrich doesn't like him. Lambone doesn't like him. Coulter. Hannity. etc.

Palin, however, is the new and improved Bush - like the next incarnation of the Terminator.

She will gut you like a fish. GW just burns brush.

McCain's already dead even if he wins and manages to stay alive.

THEREFORE the angle is not on WOMEN, but on MEN.

She's the great emasculator. The sum of all men's fears.

The ball buster in chief.

Make McNuts seem like he has none and the game is over.

Okay so

'Those who shall not be named' (my casual way of talking of those powerful, wealthy, ideologues that I perceive are far more dangerous than your average neocon).

...they have found a new mouthpiece in Sarah Palin. They have a woman that they can utilize to promote their agendas in a package that is more likely to dupe the average american into sleeping through another 4 to 8 years while they play out their agendas at the expense our expense.

Well 'those who shall not be named'... Game On!

It might work, but I think that there are enough of us who've been 'unplugged' from your mind numbing matrix to see life as it is! And she may seem like a Pit Bull to you but I am a f'ing Amazon Warrior next to this woman.

You threaten our freedom... that you've been eating away at slowly

you threaten my daughter's future... she has to compete in this global economy

you do everything you can to keep me and a majority of my fellow americans weak ...lowering our incomes, the value of the dollar, making it harder and harder for us to survive

you gain strength by keeping america in fear and divided...

you threaten the survival of a country and dream that I love.

You continually try to define reality for everyone...

but you've lost control...

too many of us aren't buying in to the general mind control you are broadcasting...

I realize that you aren't concerned about 'this wonan' being president because 'you' would actually control the strings... she's just another puppet for you.

I have had enough and it's not going to work this time!! Yippeekaye M'fers!!

God I love you.

Eric's playing with the polls again and wants us to know that Obama's lead is gone since Ms Sarah's speech.

Do they take a poll every 5 minutes, or what? Goddamn!

Thanks Tena,

A friend asked me to blog this comment so I have.

When tne polls go down we could sort of look at it as taking a temperature...

and make a donation, a phone call, put some good energy out in the blogs to change the temperature.

LOve you too!

I bet a majority of that 37 mil were the same democrats that watched Obama. But with Palin, sadly, they don't know anymore than they did on Tuesday--she's a pittbull with lipstick, shameful waste of lipstick.

Yep, and I'd wager a big percentage were gawkers, regardless of political interest/affliation, curious to get a look at the wreck they heard about. We'll know if McCain fails to pull in comparable numbers tonight.

For the love of heaven, Eric!

Wait 5 minutes - they'll do another poll.

We'll get a totally different result. Until the next poll, 5 minutes after that.

Jesus fucking christ

Mother and I found the scenes of Cindy holding baby daddy during the speech quite endearing.

Shouldn't we be calling this the Palin/McCain ticket by now? It's pretty obvious that she's stolen the spotlight from him.

I am a PROUD AMERICAN and a republican! I do not agree with McCain's selection for VP but after learning more about her I think that she will be ok. I have read all the comments above and must of the posting are insulting to the female gender and it is clear that most of the people do not have an education! It is easy to throw out insults out there about Palin because she has accomplished more in her life then most of the poster above. Educated dialog is health in politics but the personal attacks on minor children that did not make the decision to get into politics. Here are some tips for the people that have posted on this site: 1. Learn about the government and find out what a Senator does and what a Governor does. One makes executive decisions and one does not. 2. Stop making personal attacks and talk about the facts... but please find out about the facts before you post them. 3. If you wouldn't want people talking about your kids in the way that people talk about Palin's daughter... then don't lower yourself to be in the group that is doing it. 4. When doing your research, be bias! Know where you are getting your information and make sure that they are not reporting from a bias opinion! 5. Debate and have dialog on issues not childish comments like "She is the Lipstick on the Pig". Think about it, do you really think a comment like that makes you look educated. Folks, I will end with this. My pick for the president of the United States of America will be based on one thing and only one thing.... Which candidate is going to protect our country better! And not allow Islamic radicalism that have have such a hatred for our country to attempt to try to do any harm to us. I love this country and in the times that we face today, what is more important? Free health care and cheap gas.... I don't think so. My vote is going to the one that I know is going to stand up for my country and protect what I have grown to love!!! I don't want to have conversations with bullies because all they will do is sucker punch you!!! This country has given everyone a great honor and this is the opportunity to vote. Do not vote based on what you see in the news or what is best for you personally... Do what is right for the country!!

I am Tony Whitman and I approve this messege.

I watched and it made me sick to my stomach. I forced myself to do it. I kept thinking, this must be how people accused of witchcraft felt before they were burned at the stake. The bloodlust in the eyes of these people was amazing. I forced myself to watch clips of it again, and it really reminded me more of "Mean Girls." I kept asking myself, "did a man really write this speech?" It was the most snarky, petty, nasty speech I have ever seen an adult woman give. Even her her high school hairstyle, and the way she seemed to stiffen her chin, like she was extremely pleased with herself. Seems like she never grew up, and the writer never came out. A disgusting combination!
