« A Night At The Congressional Races | Home | GOP Congressman Lies On The Air About Palin And The Bridge -- And Is Called On It »

Palin: Okay! Okay! I Didn't Quite Say "Thanks, But No Thanks," Alright?

In the newest installment of Charlie Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin, airing tonight, she was pressed to explain her frequent claim that she said "thanks, but no thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere," and appeared to concede that, well, she hadn't quite said that...

Palin doesn't contest Gibson's version of events: That she favored the bridge even when Congress pulled the plug on it and after it became apparent that the state would have to foot the bill for any new costs. The key moment comes where Palin, after getting pressed, seems to make a concession of sorts, saying she was "for infrastructure being built in the state."

Palin added that "it's not inappropriate for a mayor or for a governor" to try to get "a share of the federal budget for infrastructure."

Of course it isn't! As she says, of course a mayor or governor is going to want to tap the Federal budget for money for local infrastructure buildup, and of course members of Congress will try to get it done, too.

But that isn't the issue. It's very easy to get distracted here, but again, the rub is Palin's frequent claim that she said "thanks, but no thanks" to Federal help for the big local project. The problem is her and McCain's latter-day effort to portray her as having been some kind of Joan of Arc of pork-slayers.

And now this needs to be asked of John McCain: why did you stand by and support your Veep while she repeatedly lied about the Bridge?

Pufferfish

Yes, I'd like to see Mr. Integrity answer that one.

He'll simply say that she's told the truth about everything and it'll be reported as McCain gallantly rushing to her defense.

You know what, show some respect.

There was NO bridge out of Vietnam for McCain and his patriotimaverickihonorableness.

You should show some respect. I bet he would've loved a bridge to ANYWHERE but torture.

user-pic

He had his chance. And he chose to stay.

Ummm. Hate to tell you this. McCain wasn't tortured by the standards he and Bush have set over the last 7 years. I believe it's called enhanced interrogation and there's nothing illegal or cruel about it according to your twisted Republican logic!

McCain will stand by her lie just as he stands by his own. He'd rather lose his integrity than lose an election.

user-pic

Yup. Partners and Soul Mates in Lying.

I believe it's called enhanced interrogation and according to McCain there's nothing wrong with it.

McCain wasn't tortured. It's called enhanced interrogation and it's perfectly legal according to Fredo. The only thing tortured is your logic!

user-pic

heh.. I bet his campaign wishes they'd thought of that one first. "John McCain would have rather been stuck in Nowhere, Alaska than in the Hanoi Hilton!" "John McCain wishes he'd had a Bridge to Tortureville so he could escape his private hell!" "Like John McCain has said, the only earmark he's ever requested is the one left by a whip to the side of the head when he told the gooks he'd never stop loving America!"

user-pic

Being a prisoner of war does not give one a license to lie in a Presidential campaign 40 years later, nor is it a qualification to be President. McCain has been rightly honored for his service to America, but his past service does not entitle him to guide America into the future.

Give McCain the Honorary Presidency and let's get this country moving forward.

Probably because his own speechwriters gave her the line, I would guess.

Time to do McSame like the View Ladies done did him

Your so sexist Greg, how dare you attack Palin and her family including her pregnant daughter by pointing out that she has been lying repeatedly and got called out on it. Be more respectful of Palin, shes a mother of five and McCain was a POW!!!

America to Sarah Palin as VP: Thanks, but no thanks.

Nicely said.

user-pic

And the week ends on a rising note of laughter getting louder.

LOL!

Fuck these Fucking Republicans!

I'M SICK AND TIRED OF THEIR FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!

...And the fucking trolls on this board who parrot their Bullshit.

Pufferfish - you wrote "now this needs to be asked of John McCain: why did you stand by and support your Veep while she repeatedly lied about the Bridge?"

I already know John McCain's answer - "if Barack Obama would have agreed to do town halls with me this summer then ..."

Obama made them do it. It is Obama's fault they have to lie all the time. They aren't responsible for their lies. Blame Barack for John's lies.

It would've been nice for Charlie to ask if she knew that McCain *singled out* her federal earmarks for Wasilla while she was Mayor as wasteful...

"These infrastructure projects"--defensive obfuscation and an unwillingness to admit that she was pawned *again*...

Bridge to Nowhere is the giant, poster-PIG of porkbarrel spending...and she supported it.

user-pic

Use of jargon is ALWAYS a tip-off! People who tell the truth don't need jargon. But a liar tries to hide behind jargon!

LIAR! Palin and mcShame are Linked Liars.

Parners and Soul Mates in LYING!!!

I wonder if Gibson follows up at all and contrasts what she had just said about the "embarrassment" of earmarks vs her statement 15 seconds later that it "it's not inappropriate for a mayor or for a governor" to try to get "a share of the federal budget for infrastructure."

It sounds to me like she wasn't for it before she was against it, she is still for it! (and against it).

user-pic

I don't think she understands what it means.

I really don't =

user-pic

Pitiful. Evisceration over the net! But she asked for it! Cuz she is READY!

user-pic

Ready for evisceration on day 14!

Infrastructure? Is that Alaskan for "bridge"?

user-pic

Let's ask Sarah! Surely she should know!

user-pic

How sexist of you to ask Sarah questions.

user-pic

How sexist of you to say that to me, a woman!

It has always been an embarrassment that abuse of the ear form -- earmark process has been accepted in Congress. And that's what John McCain has fought. And that's what I joined him in fighting.
I was for infrastructure being built in the state. And it's not inappropriate for a mayor or for a governor to request and to work with their Congress

Aren't these two quotes in opposition of each other? Either I'm for earmarks or I'm against them. It seems she first says earmarks are an embarrassment, and then earmarks are good for the state.

The second one is what she really believes, the first is the talking point they've been beating into her head since August 28th.

She is still for it and also against it, depending on which side of her mouth you are listening to.

user-pic

Well she's obviously memorized most of that because she forgets for minute and calls it an ear form - and I swear she still doesn't know what an earmark is - from the way she talks I can't see it any other way.

McLame admitted as much the first time he tried to refute this - he said in effect that once she knew they were "bad" she was against them.

O yeah? How'd she find out? LOL!

Her epiphany must have been recent, given that she sent Ted Stevens a wish list of $200 million in earmarks earlier this year.

barack rally in nh, just starting.

And for your amusement...

Mark Penn: I think here the media is on very dangerous ground. I think that when you see them going through every single expense report that Governor Palin ever filed, if they don't do that for all four of the candidates, they're on very dangerous ground. I think the media so far has been the biggest loser in this race. And they continue to have growing credibility problems.

CBSNews.com: Joe Biden said this week that Hillary Clinton might have been a better pick than he was. Do you think that's true?

Mark Penn: Ask Joe Biden.

CBSNews.com: Well, that's what he says. What do you think?

Mark Penn: I'm going to leave that one where it is.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/11/politics/politicalplayers/main4442492.shtml

Fuck Mark Penn, the grown-up version of "Chunk" from "The Goonies"

Hey, that's really unfair to Chunk.

user-pic

He's Lumpy.

He said that to appeal to Clinton supporters as a riposte to Palin, to reinforce the differences between the two i.e Clinton vs Palin, not Clinton and himself.

What an idiot Penn is to reinforce the Palin-is-a-victim idea.

The other candidates have been under the microscope for two years. Now McCain chooses an unknown that he obviously failed to vet, and there's less than two months for the press and the rest of us to find out about her. So of course they're going to dig.

And lo and behold, it turns out there's plenty to find out about her.

user-pic

Gibson interview 2:
She's got nothing but a string of GOP talking points.
Talk about a mile wide and an inch deep
Sounds like a schoolgirl running for head of student council
She can cut $100B from the budget with "efficiencies"
Like McCain can find $100B "in the sofa cushions"
Spinning the Bridge to Nowhere again
It's been an "embarrassment"
No shit Sherlock.
"We killed the Bridge to Nowhere and that's the bottom line"
There. That should put it to rest forever.
Thinks Roe v Wade should be repealed
She'll reach out and work with people on the "other side"
like she did as Mayor of Wasilla - "I don't feel that I have your support." You're fired.
Dodges any questions about homosexuality
"Life being an open book here as a candidate"
Rrright.
Should Obama have picked Hillary?
"I think he's regrettin' not pickin' her."

user-pic

co-sign, baby.

Especially the "sounds like a schoolgirl running for head of student council."

In that vid, when she leans in after Gibson asks her about the Bush Doctrine and says "Well Charlie" through her nose, I just die laughing every time.

re: Palin & Roe v. Wade:

Someone needs to pin Palin down on Griswold (Griswold vs. Connecticut), which was precedent for Roe. This was the case that established the right to privacy, and said that the state could not interfere with the practice of birth control.

I'm guessin' she's agin' it.

Does anyone else find it somewhat distressing that, the higher the revelations of her unfitness and general mendacity pile up, the more enchanted certain portions of the electorate seem to be with her?

I'm beginning to think that she could promise to destroy the world if elected, and a groundswell for McCain to exchange places with her on the ticket would start.

user-pic

No.

and I also want to question why you keep harping on the negative, Sutpen.

(is that nym a Faulkner reference?)

It's because I'm a pessimistic soul at heart; always have been. No one wants me to be wrong about this more than I do, believe me.

(and, yeah, the 'nom de comment' is indeed from Faulkner, but with a slight adjustment in lettering it's also me real name)

Penuts?

I agree with you, it's downright scary.
You see it on the right all the time; a disdain for actual knowledge of a subject as if that is a weakness. We don't need someone knowledgeable in the driver's seat, we just need someone we want to have a beer with.

Disgusting. Since when did Americans adopt this attitude? I certainly want my elected leaders to be much smarter than I am on every subject. If I want to have a beer with a stranger I'll visit the local bar.

Holy Shit! Avatars! Guess I better get one!

user-pic

Guess you got one!

While she is full of crap and an idiot, I don't think most American's will notice or care. She reminds me a lot of W. She'll appeal to a lot of people, unfortunately.

user-pic

You mean the "lot of people" who still like Bush?

The 25% group?

Damnation. Y'all need a new line - this is not 2004. He hasn't polled above 46 approvals since 2004.

I'm thinking working class whites in swing states ... Don't mean to be negative -- and I don't care about the polls right now -- but I think she's not to be underestimated, which is all too tempting.

user-pic

"It has always been an embarrassment that abuse of the earform… ear, earmark…"

Notice how distracted, skittish and awkward Governor Palin is in the interviews? The classic indication of a stressed subject, caught in a series of falsehoods. Over and over she answers obliquely—it at all—tries to change the subject, offers patently false or misleading excuses and struggles to keep up with her—softball, in this case—interrogator.

It's almost pathetic: her near-drowning, as she tries to tread water in these interviews, while in hopelessly over her head. Please. Can't someone put her, and us, all out of this misery?

No wonder McShame likes this chick so much. She is a bigger phony then he is!

here's the crux of the problem. District Manager Palin is from a state that is relies on federal funds so much it's practically a member of the European Union.

she grew up in that system and that system feels natural to her and now McSame is forcing her to change her tune.

Not really a big issue but I found it interesting how she refered to John McCain and "McCain" after Obama, Clinton, and Biden had all called him "John" repeatedly in their convention speeches. Like I said not a big issue but I thought it highlited how little they really do know each other.

user-pic

And she calls Gibson "Charlie."

You're on to something here!

user-pic
"it's not inappropriate for a mayor or for a governor" to try to get "a share of the federal budget for infrastructure."

Well, somebody tell John McCain that because that's exactly what he rails against. What she describes is *exactly* the earmark process, and what McCain is running on is the idea that earmarks are evil.

And hey, McCain says we have to defeat evil, so he has to defeat Palin! And the best way to defeat Palin is apparently by putting her right next to his sorry ass on the ticket.

It almost sort of makes sense. In a bizarro world of anti-logic.

Or is he railing against the ear form process?

Not really a big deal but I thought it was interesting how she refered to John McCain as "McCain" in the video after Obama, Clinton, and Biden all called him "John" repeatedly in their convention speeches. Like I said, not a big issue but I thought it highlited how little they know each other.

So when is any of this going to be reflected in the polls? When are the people going to wake up from this, the latest Republican spell?

user-pic

Everyone would be well ahead of the deal if he or she would quit with the polls.

"I don't spend a lot of time looking at polls because a year ago today, I was down 20," he said Wednesday in Norfolk, Virginia, referring to his long-odds bid to wrest the Democratic nomination from Hillary Clinton.

"So if I spent my time worrying about polls, I'd be in big trouble. Right now it is neck and neck and you know what, that's probably how it was going to be inevitably," the Democrat added.

"Because you have to earn the presidency, it's not a cakewalk," he said.

http://rawstory.com/news/afp/Obama_keeps_cool_as_Democratic_fear_09102008.html

You gotta love that: "Because you have to earn the presidency, it's not a cakewalk." I love this guy. He's a grown-up.

user-pic

I love him too!

Shook his hand. And all I could say was "Thank you" with tears in my eyes.

The guy gives really good eye contact!

(This was in Feb. And I could see the gears turning... white-haired white lady... Yes!)

user-pic

OOO I'm jealous.

I try to avoid jealousy since it isn't very nice but that one got me.

Oooo I can tell he gives good eye contact - he does it at a distance and several technologies removed, too.

Check it out: http://punditkitchen.com/2008/09/05/political-pictures-barack-obama-chill-out-got-this/

user-pic

I've seen it! I shake your hand across the miles. So you get some of those good vibes.

I would love to shake Michelle's hand!

Tena: So glad to see your smile back with your always welcomed comments. With your post here ..I almost detect a shit eating grin there over eye contact with Obama....Hope you are doing a happy dance and thinking how Biden got some great material for his upcoming debate with the Lipstick Queen.

Yeah, and we all know what an asset Penn was to Hilary's campaign.

Not really a big deal but I thought it was interesting how she refered to John McCain as "McCain" in the video after Obama, Clinton, and Biden all called him "John" repeatedly in their convention speeches. Like I said, not a big issue but I thought it highlited how little they know each other.

yeah noticed that too. also she doesn't know how to pivot off of a topic onto something esle. she is pretty much letting Charlie land body blow after body blow.

She isn't even trying to charm him or seem personable.

So when is any of this going to be reflected in the polls? When are the people going to wake up from this, the latest Republican spell?

Avatars are back! Sweet!

Ms. Palin, of course, didn't even blink. She knew for a fact that she was the best qualified candidate for the VP slot. She didn't even need to think about it! What if she becomes president and has those nuclear codes. She won't think about not using them--thinking is for appeasers, she won't even blink, not once will she blink, she'll use them.

I prefer the more thoughtful person as VP, rather than the one who doesn't yet know what she doesn't know, but believes, without blinking, that she's the one.

McCain ad during ABC news between Palin segments:
Obama's more of the same!
then it lists the usual liberal bugaboos of the Democratic party-
Patrick Leahy, Harry Reid, Dick Durbin
The same female trembling-with-outrage voice over.
The GOP seems to have only 2 or 3 people doing all the voice-overs for years. The Tonka Truck guy and the trembling low and dry female voice.
Where was the Obama ad?

user-pic

Sarah is a master at the practice of denial. She doesn't even feel embarrassed by this nonsense. She can believe anything she says out loud, at least while she's saying it, and it doesn't have to be rational or cohesive.
She and McCain are perfect together. Both are incarnations of Eddie Haskell.

Avatars are back! Sweet!

Avatars are back and nothing else is fixed.

The best part continues to be that her 09 earmark requests are ON HER AK GOVERNOR's website:

http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/09_omb/budget/FFY09%20Summary%20of%20Fed%20Request.pdf

Do we need any more proof she's an earmarker...it's all right there.

Save a copy of it now as a pdf, I have no doubt it will disappear at some point.

And yes, on page 2 at the bottom is the $3.2 million request to study SEAL DNA!

Remember McCain, just on Sept. 10 in VA mocked the $3 million Montana BEAR DNA earmark request.

Oops. Pot, meet kettle!

What do ears have to do with anything?

She's frickin awesome and I want to drink beer with her.

Donny Deutsch thinks you want to mate with her!

That's my only qualification for VP - do I want to do you?

user-pic

Oh, well, if that's the standard... I would totally do Biden. Yeah, he's a little older, but I'm a sucker for a good smile, and he has a *great* smile.

SEXIST!

I read the whole list, there are a LOT of fishing related requests. The seal DNA, rockeye fishing, salmon studies, crab mating habits, ect ect.

Has anyone done any conclusive research about if the Palin's were enhancing their own earnings using money from federal earmarks by requesting funds back into Todd's commercial fishing business?

Seems to me that finding information that shows the earmark money not just going to the state but into her pocket would be a lot more damning if it was taking place. I'm not an "investigative reporter" but all the fish money has a smell to it.

I went and read the 4 page earmark request form on the AK website, and I notice a trend. There are a LOT of fishing related requests. 12 that relate to the industry to be exact.

If I am not mistaken, Todd has a commercial fishery. I do not know if any conclusive research has been done to prove this, but it would be something to check into. It is possible that the Palins are applying for or receiving state subsidies back through Todd's commercial fishing business.

It seems to me if that is happening and can be proven with a paper trail, it would be quite damning. If she is not just the earmark queen, but they also enhance their own family income using the federal money given to their state it would be a LOT more of an effective line of attack. Does anyone know if research to this effect has been attempted by anyone?

Shit.

I've had a post out there hanging in space for 10 minutes. I'm scared to death to post it again but I'm betting it never posts -

*sigh*

user-pic

me too.

At some point the software is going to belch and about 50,000 comments will all appear!

Me three.

user-pic

What's the dif? Earmark? Ear Ring? Ear Form?

She likes to say "infrastructure." It's one of those big words she learned once... to make her sound intelligent and informed.

I wonder ... if Charlie had asked: How would you define infrastructure?

Does she really know what it means? I doubt it!

user-pic

I actually think Gibson has done an ok job in the parts of the interview vid I've seen. He wasn't vicious, but I didn't think he was all that patronizing, either.

o shit, there goes the electric = whew, didn't last. I was in Smith's the other day and the lights went out and nobody flinched - we just kept pushing our carts down the aisles. It reminded me of being in the airport in Antigua and the electricity went out and everybody just kept on keeping on. LOL!

The last time the electricity went out for any length of time it was because someone got drunk and shot out one of the transformers in El Prado. I love this place. It will kick your ass daily, but there's no place like it.

user-pic

You're in Spain?? Prado?

user-pic

No - El Prado, New Mexico - which is what they call a "designated area" not exactly a town, on the northern side of Taos, New Mexico, where I am.

;)

Northern New Mexico is really the northern most outpost of Mexico.

user-pic

Hey Thera - you want to hear the name of our electric company? Kit Carson Electric Coop. The logo is a lightning bolt guy like Reddy Kilowatt (if y'all had him) only with a coonskin cap and holding a long rifle. LMAO!

user-pic

I love it!

Well, El Prado is exactly the name of the art museum in Madrid.

NM.... is close to AZ. Maybe you can learn some tidbits about mcShame... kind of undercover work or something.

user-pic

I love having the avatars. Now I can see who I'm talking to and I don't get confused over who's new and who isn't.

Word.

user-pic

I have a feeling the tide has turned, folks. Even if the software hasn't!

The comparison to W is a compliment to Palin. At least W know he needed to surround himself with smart people. I doubt that this chick even knows she's stupid.

And to avoid getting bogged down in whether earmarks are something normal, let's not forget that the bridge to no where isn't just any earmark, it is the most wasteful and discraceful kind. I think Gibbson got off-course there and could have nailed her on that point.

user-pic

She does not know she's stupid. She likely thinks the VP pick is like proof of something.

But we know different. It proves McShame is a total hypocrite. A craven user of people.

Then again she might not be bright enough to ever realize she's been used!

user-pic

Those are inevitably the stupidest - those who just don't know. I thought there had been a study done 20 years ago or so now that showed that those people most convinced of their own brilliance are almost always the dumbest people. Same with competence -

Brilliant comment.

And speaking of people deluded by illusions of their own brilliance, right on cue, we bring you the avatar-less fogu2!!!

user-pic

Word straight up!

Just like Bush only worse.

Every single time I see her, I hear one of my grad school professors talking about the stages of learning, the first of which is "Not knowing what you don't know".

That's what scares me so much about her. She doesn't even have the slightest clue that she's in over her head. She's a typical Republican in that they think that "gut instinct" is an acceptable substitute for knowledge.

P.S. I'm so happy avatars are back!!!!!!!!

SARAH PALIN HAD ALL THE SPOT LIGHT ENERGIZIN HER WHITE RACIST GOP WOMEN BASE,NOW THE SPOTLIGHT IS OVER BACK TO REALITY,WHUT U WAITIN 4 WHITE RACIST TRAILER TRASH SARAH PALIN SHOW YOUR TAXS RETURN WHUT THA FUCK R U WAITIN 4,BTW IAM NOT RACIST AT ALL,I GOT A LOT OF WHITE FRIENDS BUT THEIR OPEN MINDED AND SMART AND DOESNT JUDGE A PERSON BY THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN!!!!

user-pic

O this is too much fun - shit posts, there are avatars. -

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!1

Now that the avatars are back I must say your looks a lot like......Sarah Palin. (Minus the wrinkles of course)

Tena's got much cooler glasses.

husseintenaX iam a big fan of yours keep spitting the truth sister!!!

This is the moment we have been waiting for to take advantage of the media somewhat doing its job, because the key is to attack McCain, not Palin. Now, we can
What is it with John McCain and the facts. Not only is he not telling the truth about Barack Obama (example on screen),
he cannot even tell the truth about his running mate-claiming that she was against earmarks when she says she asked for them just like every other governor and mayor (showing interview with Gibson). John McCain cant tell the truth about his plans for change because he doesnt have any so he tells untruths about Barack Obama and hides behind his running mate-making untrue claims about her record to try to prove something about himself that is just not true. Just like George Bush on Iraq, facts are irrelevant to John McCain. Real change requires real facts. Barack Obama and Joe Biden for the change America needs.

The recent gaffes from McCain/Palin give Obama/Biden the ammo they need to go on the offensive next week. McCain= A Liar & Palin= Earmark Queen

She approves politicians seeking earmarks, yet will fight them to the death (or shoot them from a helicopter, or is that helimachine). I can believe in that.

Knock it off, Tina. Only Sarah and Uncle Johnny can protect us from the Russians and those hordes of savage polar bears. That's in Clause II, Section 6a of the Bush Doctrine.

In theaters this November: The Maverick, The Barracuda, and The Lying Golden Compass

Tena is certainly being disrepectful.

And I seriously doubt she would show the "proper" deference that a candidate such as Palin commands. I mean this is someone who doesn't BLINK when called to the duty of stopping governors and mayors such as herself.

While I appreciate the sarcasm, I have one request:

Headlines like "Palin: Okay! Okay! I Didn't Quite Say 'Thanks, But No Thanks,' Alright?" are actually bad.

I want everyone who happens upon this article to know the exact truth: she has admitted NO fault, and as weaselly as she is in these interviews, she's still trying to stick to her stump speech. We may all know it's complete horseshit, but she's admitted NO fault, apologized for nothing, basically given no indication that she agrees she's done anything wrong.

That's the worst kind.

Lord. Have. Mercy. Please call the grammar and diction police. Did McBush's vetting team verify that she actually graduated from high school?

user-pic

Well, her parents were teachers in her school. So likely they covered for her there.

But colleges.... how did she ever graduate? Did she really graduate? How get her credits transferred?

And what in the heck was she doing all those years in all those schools? Where are the people who knew her in those colleges?

After watching her try (and fail miserably) to deflect the question and hearing her answer, I'm beginning to think that John Sidney McCain III called the wrong woman the c-word.

Oops, is that sexist? Sorry.

While she is right that obtaining funds for infrastructure is what mayors and governors do,
that was not the question. In this interview she admits, once and for all, that she has been lying blatantly every day since the announcement of her nomination. And so has her partner-in-slime.

These people have no integrity and no shame.

user-pic

Soul Mates in Slime! Ughhhhh....Yech!

Lord. Have. Mercy. Please call the grammar and diction police. Did McBush's vetting team verify that she actually graduated from high school?

The sad reality is that the answer is yes. Which is one more piece of evidence for Obama's case that we need to revamp our educational system.

The botton line here is that Obama now can hammer McCain from here til November about his support of the Governor who said thanks but no thanks.

Bottom line: Obama can hammer McCain on the Bridge to Nowhere from Now to November. Sweet.

That's the worst kind

Obama and Biden both voted for the bridge when they could have given money to Katrina so keep talking . I bet they will zing Obama at the debate :)

They voted for it BECAUSE it was an earmark (or ear form, you choose). One has to look at the bill they were voting for to make an informed decision. And how many earmarks were approved because McCain voted yes on a bill.

Hey look, everybody!!! I think we've got a new troll!!!

As Janis might have said: Timbow is just another word for nothing left to lose, so one might as well lie.

We all know that the lie about Barack being a muslim circumnavigated the globe several times before Truth hit the alarm clock, fell out of bed and retched into its spitoon. I think however I may have discovered the real "Muslims" in this race. Think about it; time and again McCain and Palin have reaffirmed their aversion to PORK! Oh no, wait a minute, somebody just pointed out the steaming pile of bacon, sausages, chops and ribs reclining on finest Alaska state house china in front of Governor Palin. Dang! I thought I was on to something there.

This letter is exactly meant for TPM administrator.

Over the last three weeks i have noticed a trend on how TPM is covering the candidates. By my own count, it seems McCain has more visibility on this site than Obama.

IMO, i believe McCain is just manipulating the bloggers just as he manipulated the MSM media. Even Palin is getting more coverage than Biden on the blog. What is Biden message for the day? Frankly, I don’t know but I do know what Palin message of the day is. If bloggers don’t cover Biden, how do we expect MSM to cover him?

Obama is no longer visible on this blog. His message of the day is always buried in McCain-Palin drama or controversy. Today, Obama was in NH talking about the real issues, but the headline on TPM is about Palin’s gaffe. Palin will self destruct in a matter of time, however, all energy needs to be focus on ground operation rather than Palin’s nonsense

If this trend continues, Democrats can kiss this election good bye. The republican party has managed to Psy-Ops the blog by distracting them from the real issues. It is time for TPM to reduce their 100% coverage of McCain-Palin ticket. Remember no news coverage is bad as long as they get their message out for the day. Even, McCain advertise on TPM website. Again, McCain is using TPM as a tool to get out his negative message.

I agree. The question is whether the overall coverage eventually ends in a negative view of McCain/Palin or positive. If Obama wins because enough people just are disgusted with McCain and Palin, I'll be happy.

Gbenga - O I don't agree at all.

This site isn't just about how great our guy is - it's also about fighting the other guys, cause they suck.

And keeping the media aware that they are being watched and we know when they publish bullshit.

All these things are just important as praising Obama all the time, my dear. At least, that's very much MO.

:)

Let's see I agree with him, but I also agree with you. Ohhhh, what this election is doing to me.

user-pic

LOL

We're all crazier than we were 3 weeks ago, I think.

I know I am.

Is Naive a river in Egypt? I thought that when the primary was over it would be somewhat normal (ie no Rove). Now I'm dealing with snowmachines and lipstick on pigs. God help us all.

Hey! You can be VP too!

Well, I'm real, you know, I have those problems everybody faces everyday, so yeah I can be VP and even the big cheese,

I understand we shouldn't be singing praise of Obama all the time but we must not be a tool for McCain on the net. Our message is getting lost because we dedicated 100% of our attention on McCain-Palin.

Again, if you do the analysis of the last three weeks, there is more news of McCain than Obama. Despite a successful democratic convention, the message of the convention is already lost. The only thing we hear about is McCain-Palin. Why can't TPM post snippet of the convention speech on their home page?

The undecided voters out there are not going to vote for Obama if they can't figure out where he stand on the issues. It is our job as a blogger to get the message out. I like referring friends to this website but what good does it gives if all they see is anti McCain-Palin ticket. I don't have problem with whacking McCain on the head but i want the undecided to know that they have alternatives. For every anti-McCain analysis on this website, I want to see pro-Obama analysis by the side. That is how we can inform the viewers that are undecided.

user-pic

You want Obama all the time? Go to his website!

user-pic

This isn't exactly the site for people naive to politics. This is for hard core addicts!

Send your friends to Obama's website.

user-pic

I agree but then again what is the Democratic message? I still couldn't tell you.

exactly right.

and a point that josh has made repeatedly in the context of pointing out that obama is not on the offense. obama is stuck playing defense, responding to what mcpalin are doing and saying.

and it is up to obama and biden to set the agenda and get the msm talking about obama and biden and what obama and biden want the msm to be talking about.

that is not tpm's job.

But Obama's campaign *has* been issuing solid ads. Obama's own stump, the tone and substance of it, has changed. We haven't seen much about that on TPM -- or anywhere else.

One can only conclude, therefore, that McCain and Palin's game plan is working perfectly -- and TPM is helping, in its way. Call McPalin liars all you want. They don't care. Their plan is to keep Obama's lethal charisma out of sight.

And it's working.

The tactic here is that we've got Barack's back! We're doing the heavy lifting of attacking his opponents. We're going after Palin because that kneecaps mcSham. And linked together, they are Soul Mates in Slime.

The whole point of our strategy is take these liars down! so Barack and Biden can concentrate on laying out the issues to all the folks that need to be persuaded.

Meanwhile the Soul Mates cannot abide being apart. Which is prevents them from adequately covering the battlegrounds. Yay!

Plus, all of us here are so well-versed in the issues and our great candidates, we really don't need to hear that over and over.

Hope this clarifies things.

I agree...

Just a thought, but maybe The View can bring on Lincoln Chafee to discuss the "cocky wacko."

This is something even most hunters are appalled by. Only the those with the inner-Cheney (killing quail with clipped wings is fun stuff) will side with this kind of hunting.

user-pic

Absolutely - most sportsman don't consider hunting from helicopters to be sportsmanlike. It's sickening - it's Dick Cheney-style hunting - it amounts to murder. There's no sport - just straight killing!

And if your hunting partner makes a pass at your mistress in the plane, you can shoot him in the face, because it you know it's Alaska.

I couldn't watch this video more than the one time. It was painful to even watch it once. She is a sick woman.

In a different life she would be a researcher doing invasive torture research on primates for the betterment of pyschological studies. "No, damn it, drill the skull on that side!"

:)

I could not watch that through even the first time. She's ugly.

You had more fortitude that me. I had to shut it down. She is a really sick person.

Yep. She's sick.

That pict of her on front page is scary - gimlet stare with bared teeth.

If this double posts, I am sorry. Just disappeared. Please pass this on to everyone you know, character and imagery work wonders, this is a disgusting video that needs to get out there.

What about the money Sarah? Did you keep it, or say "no thanks" ??

Why do you keep using this as an example of reform you have championed?

That would have been the perfect follow-up question. I don't know if Gibson asked and they edited it out or what.

user-pic

I wonder what Obama is up to these days. Seems like we have an awful lot of news about the Republican candidates and what they are up to but not so much about the Democratic candidates.

I realize that McCain and Palin are both incorrigible liars but how many times to we have to "prove" that?

Just sayin'

Just sayin' that it has mostly to due with the media and not Obama. But he'll be on SNL this Saturday. Just sayin'.

...so this is what it comes down to. Palin was selected to be the 2nd most powerful person in these united states. She has given their base a reason to be happy, or excited, or whatever you want to call it. But for the rest of america, we don't know her and she has been shielded by the campaign. This country was built under key principals, one of those principals is "freedom is speech". The press serves as a function of the people to inform us about many an issue, including keeping tabs on those we elect to public office. So, it is their duty to inform us who is running for that 2nd most powerful person, and eventhough that campaign HAND SELECTED the lucky soul who was given the chance to probe this selection for the FIRST TIME, it seems it didnt go as they wanted it to go. So instead of going after Palin for not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is and other gibbirish, they go after the media. Check out what the pathetic slug of the human race, also known as matt drudge, headlines (outside of IKE IKE IKE IKE IKE IKE) on his sad webpage:

KRAUTHAMMER: Charlie Gibson's Gaffe...

WIRE: ABC grilled Palin hard, but it may backfire...

Ex-Clinton Aide: 'Media is on Very Dangerous Ground'...

So there it is, Palin is as dumb as a (lip)stick, and has PROVEN she shouldn't be on their ticket, but no, Charlie Gibson is the one to blame.

Sick....Sick and Sick.

If McCain is elected, and i pray every night that it doesnt, I hope when the russian/iranian/whoever new enola gay drops the bomb on our country, i hope ground zero is matt drudge's rat hole

Just to smooth your nerves (and lord knows I need my nerves smoothed this past few months) is here in Indiana, everybody I've talked to has seen for themselves the interviews. Personal impressions will always trump the pundit spin.

Just watched Campbell Brown talking about the bridge to nowhere and McCain's View appearance. Very good coverage. Really highlighted her lies.

Also, when did Dana Milbank go to CNN? Is that because Olbermann wouldn't have him on his show after he wrote that bullshit article?

So that is who that was. I was like, "who's that" on the greatest political team on television.

Re: dana milbanks
money, money, money

but you can read about it here:

O god yes. It's not as if everyone else in the country but us hangs on every word and does what the pundits say. The press is as popular as Congress - or maybe a little less.

Your right TenaX. When you think about it, the cable news average audience combined is probably 2-4 million viewers. in reality the cable news audience is very small. I mean if Fox is as influential as we sometimes think they are, McCain would be up by 10 and would have a substantial lead in the EV estimate.
Sometimes the only comfort i get when i watch these idiot pundits talk garbage is to be thankful that their audience is small and that in most cases if your watching say Fixed Noise Network you probably wasnt going to vote for BO anyway.

I do like the idea of ads tagged with "Say thanks, but no thanks, to McCain/Palin."

Seconded. Those out there with bumpersticker makers, hear my words.

Brilliant.

even better perhaps:

"Say, Thanks, but no thanks! to McCain/Palin and their lies."

Palin... the EARMARK QUEEN !

As for this "I told Congress thanks but no thanks," all that it would take to reveal that for the shameless lie that it is is a simple question: "Really? In what way/format did you tell that to Congress? Did you send them a memo or letter? Or did you hold a press conference to tell Congress that? Did you call members of Congress? How did you let them know that you no longer wanted the money for the bridge? Can you show us the documentary evidence that you told the Congress you didn't want the bridge?"

Big lies are really not all that hard to pick apart - you just have to ask the right question, the question that leaves no place to hide.

GIBSON: So you'd take military off the table, the veterans' benefits. That's 20 percent of the budget. &Do you talk about entitlement reform? Is there money you can save in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid?

GIBSON: The agencies are not involved in entitlements. Basically, discretionary spending is 18 percent of the budget.

PALIN: We have certainly seen excess in agencies, though, and in -- when bureaucrats, when bureaucracy just gets kind of comfortable, going with the status-quo and not being challenged to find efficiencies and spend other people's money wisely, then that's where we get into the situation that we are into today, and that is a tremendous growth of government, a huge debt, trillions of dollars of debt that we're passing on to my kids and your kids and your grandkids ... Is there anybody out there?

does anyone else think it's important that, during the questioning on the economy, when Charlie Gibson mentioned entitlements, she kept referring to "these agencies." she clearly didn't know what 'entitlements' referred to, and even when he said "social security, medicare and medicaid" she referred back to 'agencies' and not programs...
is this a failing of her Cliff's notes on the economy, or does she really not KNOW what social security, medicare and medicaid are?

this seems more important to me than her not knowing what "the Bush Doctrine" means.

user-pic

Her understanding of vocabulary is woeful! This is no high IQ individual. She flings around these "terms" without any sense of what they mean! OMG! She'd totally fail in any grad program!

i'd apologize for the clone post, but it seems to be a common problem.

btw, is anyone else disturbed by her overly beauty queen hand gestures. palms together with the thumbs crossed, holding the hand out flat with all the fingers and thumb tightly together. who gestures like that? she kept lookin like she was playing royalty.

user-pic

She's asking for a hand-out?

I betcha there's quite a lotta stuff she don't know.

There is one thing that is mystifying to us rational elitist types that seek, maybe not always successfully, to get past our lizard brain, to evolve, let's say. We fail to understand that the beauty queen hands and gestures are what people see and how they respond to her when they shift into lizard mode. Karl Rove knows the lizard brain. Part of her script was obviously her posture and her tone.

The questions about the Bush Doctrine were met with air punches and talking down to poor Charlie, who she reminded was named Charlie more then once, as if HE was the moran at the meeting. Another subliminal "signal" of her superiority and displeasure was repeating how "we will not second guess" Israel's decisions. She repeated this to let Charlie know there will be no further explanation, that is all he/we deserve.

To lizard brains she appeared strong. She was decisive! If McCain dies, she will be the Decider! My HOPE is that Obama's proposition that Americans are not that stupid will be accurate. My fear is that they are. There were, afterall, enough votes for the Reich to steal the election twice, and it seems even though people have woken up to what Bush has done, they fail to realize Palin is george Bush with LIPSTICK.

user-pic

I disagree about her posture. I found her hunched over demeanor to look really, really weak. And her jabs with the fist totally contradicted her poster. The lizard brain would see... "weak lady, punching the air.... like a kid... trying to look older and stronger." Then there were the moments of sheer terror in her eyes! Then coupled with the strange putting down of "charlie."

We encode all that. One. Strange. "Ready?"

user-pic

..not "poster" - "posture"

Has anyone done polling to see what this woman has done to the children of this country? She holds herself, supposedly, to such high standards but then is making a career out of lying. Does she lie like this to her kids? Do they even know if their own mother has ever told the truth? She's a seriously twisted woman who somehow missed out on the day in Sunday school when the 10 Commandments were taught.

And as far as McCain's kids...no hope there. They seem to believe only they have suffered from war. These people all live in little soap bubbles. Toxic little soap bubbles.

These two people should never have been elected for anything and shame on the voters who ever marked a ballot for either of them.

"Following the Iraq War since 9-11"? What the...?

user-pic

Was she out sick the day they taught the 10 Commandments in Sunday school?

I just saw the full interview on ABC and this portion was slightly different. They edited in the image of of Palin wearing a "Bridge to NoWhere 99901" t-shirt while they were saying the following:

Gibson: You were wearing a t-shirt in the 2006 campaign that showed your support for the bridge to nowhere.

Palin: I was wearing a t-shirt with the zipcode of the community that was asking for that bridge and not all the ...... blah blah blah

Palin's lies: thanks but no thanks!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Palin_nowhere.jpg

I understand that Republicans like Mitt Romney have to publicly support McCain / Palin but I imagine in private it goes something like this.

"You've go to be f#@king kidding me...drink please!"

Difference between W and Palin: W was a master at pretending to be intelligent and presidential to win elections. Palin is a wingnut who actually thinks she is intelligent and presidential.

She is therefore far more dangerous.

anagram for "Sarah Palin":

"Ha! Span Liar!"

It's high time for Obama to not attack Palin but rather use her selection as VP to attack McCain's judgment and decision-making capacity. That's where Palin will hurt McCain. At 72 years and three incidents of malignant skin cancer, how could McCain responsibly select someone with no experience to lead the world should he become incapacitated?

This is a rather RECKLESS decision and is CLEARLY a SERIOUS JUDGMENT FLAW that Obama must relentlessly hit McCain on hard from now till Nov 4.

As you may know, we also have an election up here in Canada on Oct 14. For the first time in my life, I will be voting AGAINST someone as opposed for what I believe in. We cannot afford to have another conservative government up here and you cannot afford to have another republican president.

We owe it to ourselves, to our children, and to the World.

Concerned in Canada!

user-pic

What is innteresting about this is not that the politicians are lying, but that our so called christian community which has been supporting the Republican party because of its pro life and anti homosexual stance (pardon me while I think of Larry Craig) are not chastising the current crop for lying... which is a sin also in the same community.

It is a sign that the christian belief system here in the United States has wandered totally away from the teachings of Christ and is now just another right wing cult... using the "Christian" designation in name only.

If this were not so, the leaders of the christian faith would be standing up chastising, not remaining mute when these acts occur.

I, as a professing christian find it sorrowful to see my God used this way. I also believe his admonishment of the churches in the book of Revelation can be widely applied to the majority of well known, popular sects here in this country and is especially documented during t his current election cycle...

Jesus Christ, she's awful. Is she going to promise to get us more snack machines in the cafeteria, too?

"So, who wants to eat chiminichangas next year? Not me. See, with me it will be summer all year long. Vote for Summer!"

user-pic

At the very end of that video, Palin says

"What I supported was a link between a community and it's airport, and we have found that link now."

Now? The airport has existed sine 1973, and I'm guessing the ferry has always run between the airport and Ketchikan. How else would people get there, sprout wings? What's this now Palin's referring to?

From Wikipedia:

A ferry runs to the island every 30 minutes during most of the year, except during the May–September peak tourist season, when it runs every 15 minutes. It charges $5 per adult, with free same-day return, and $6 per automobile each way (as of 2008[update]).[4]

Hard to tell, but it looks from the video like we might have heard "Thanks, but no thanks" for the last time.

MoveOn.org or some other organization (TPM?) could up the ante, though, by offering to donate $500 to NARAL (say) for every new occassion that Palin repeats the "Thanks, but no thanks" on the Bridge to Nowhere line.

Saraha Palin is working on another Bridge to Nowhere from near her house to Anchorage that will make the first bridge to nowhere look like a footpath! This one could actually cost $1 billion! I've been blogging.

What I completely fail to understand is this;

If she and McShame believe she is smart enough and ready in an instant to be Veep or POTUS, why can't anyone ask her any questions?
Why is it sexist to ask her about policy? Why is it sexist to ask her anything at all?
Why was it not sexist for the Resmugs. to try and drag Hillary through the mud?
Why is it okay for McShame to make nasty remarks and jokes about Chelsea Clinton and not be able to ask Palin why her views on reproductive freedom failed to work in her own family?

How would she face down Iraq, Iran, Syria, Russia and all the countries in central and south america?
What does she know about the economy?
What does she know about free trade?
What will she do about poverty, health care, disabled people, etc?

There are so many legitimate questions to be asked in such a short period of time. She needs to find a university somewhere for about 10-12 years and then maybe, just maybe, she'd be qualified.
