Palin: Okay! Okay! I Didn't Quite Say "Thanks, But No Thanks," Alright?
In the newest installment of Charlie Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin, airing tonight, she was pressed to explain her frequent claim that she said "thanks, but no thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere," and appeared to concede that, well, she hadn't quite said that...
Palin doesn't contest Gibson's version of events: That she favored the bridge even when Congress pulled the plug on it and after it became apparent that the state would have to foot the bill for any new costs. The key moment comes where Palin, after getting pressed, seems to make a concession of sorts, saying she was "for infrastructure being built in the state."
Palin added that "it's not inappropriate for a mayor or for a governor" to try to get "a share of the federal budget for infrastructure."
Of course it isn't! As she says, of course a mayor or governor is going to want to tap the Federal budget for money for local infrastructure buildup, and of course members of Congress will try to get it done, too.
But that isn't the issue. It's very easy to get distracted here, but again, the rub is Palin's frequent claim that she said "thanks, but no thanks" to Federal help for the big local project. The problem is her and McCain's latter-day effort to portray her as having been some kind of Joan of Arc of pork-slayers.

And now this needs to be asked of John McCain: why did you stand by and support your Veep while she repeatedly lied about the Bridge?

Being a prisoner of war does not give one a license to lie in a Presidential campaign 40 years later, nor is it a qualification to be President. McCain has been rightly honored for his service to America, but his past service does not entitle him to guide America into the future.
Give McCain the Honorary Presidency and let's get this country moving forward.

There. That should put it to rest forever.
Thinks Roe v Wade should be repealed
She'll reach out and work with people on the "other side"
like she did as Mayor of Wasilla - "I don't feel that I have your support." You're fired.
Dodges any questions about homosexuality
"Life being an open book here as a candidate"

Notice how distracted, skittish and awkward Governor Palin is in the interviews? The classic indication of a stressed subject, caught in a series of falsehoods. Over and over she answers obliquely—it at all—tries to change the subject, offers patently false or misleading excuses and struggles to keep up with her—softball, in this case—interrogator.
It's almost pathetic: her near-drowning, as she tries to tread water in these interviews, while in hopelessly over her head. Please. Can't someone put her, and us, all out of this misery?

Has anyone done any conclusive research about if the Palin's were enhancing their own earnings using money from federal earmarks by requesting funds back into Todd's commercial fishing business?
Seems to me that finding information that shows the earmark money not just going to the state but into her pocket would be a lot more damning if it was taking place. I'm not an "investigative reporter" but all the fish money has a smell to it.

If I am not mistaken, Todd has a commercial fishery. I do not know if any conclusive research has been done to prove this, but it would be something to check into. It is possible that the Palins are applying for or receiving state subsidies back through Todd's commercial fishing business.
It seems to me if that is happening and can be proven with a paper trail, it would be quite damning. If she is not just the earmark queen, but they also enhance their own family income using the federal money given to their state it would be a LOT more of an effective line of attack. Does anyone know if research to this effect has been attempted by anyone?

The comparison to W is a compliment to Palin. At least W know he needed to surround himself with smart people. I doubt that this chick even knows she's stupid.
And to avoid getting bogged down in whether earmarks are something normal, let's not forget that the bridge to no where isn't just any earmark, it is the most wasteful and discraceful kind. I think Gibbson got off-course there and could have nailed her on that point.

This is the moment we have been waiting for to take advantage of the media somewhat doing its job, because the key is to attack McCain, not Palin. Now, we can
What is it with John McCain and the facts. Not only is he not telling the truth about Barack Obama (example on screen),
he cannot even tell the truth about his running mate-claiming that she was against earmarks when she says she asked for them just like every other governor and mayor (showing interview with Gibson). John McCain cant tell the truth about his plans for change because he doesnt have any so he tells untruths about Barack Obama and hides behind his running mate-making untrue claims about her record to try to prove something about himself that is just not true. Just like George Bush on Iraq, facts are irrelevant to John McCain. Real change requires real facts. Barack Obama and Joe Biden for the change America needs.

We may all know it's complete horseshit, but she's admitted NO fault, apologized for nothing, basically given no indication that she agrees she's done anything wrong.

After watching her try (and fail miserably) to deflect the question and hearing her answer, I'm beginning to think that John Sidney McCain III called the wrong woman the c-word.
Oops, is that sexist? Sorry.
While she is right that obtaining funds for infrastructure is what mayors and governors do,
that was not the question. In this interview she admits, once and for all, that she has been lying blatantly every day since the announcement of her nomination. And so has her partner-in-slime.

This letter is exactly meant for TPM administrator.
Over the last three weeks i have noticed a trend on how TPM is covering the candidates. By my own count, it seems McCain has more visibility on this site than Obama.
IMO, i believe McCain is just manipulating the bloggers just as he manipulated the MSM media. Even Palin is getting more coverage than Biden on the blog. What is Biden message for the day? Frankly, I don’t know but I do know what Palin message of the day is. If bloggers don’t cover Biden, how do we expect MSM to cover him?
Obama is no longer visible on this blog. His message of the day is always buried in McCain-Palin drama or controversy. Today, Obama was in NH talking about the real issues, but the headline on TPM is about Palin’s gaffe. Palin will self destruct in a matter of time, however, all energy needs to be focus on ground operation rather than Palin’s nonsense
If this trend continues, Democrats can kiss this election good bye. The republican party has managed to Psy-Ops the blog by distracting them from the real issues. It is time for TPM to reduce their 100% coverage of McCain-Palin ticket. Remember no news coverage is bad as long as they get their message out for the day. Even, McCain advertise on TPM website. Again, McCain is using TPM as a tool to get out his negative message.

I understand we shouldn't be singing praise of Obama all the time but we must not be a tool for McCain on the net. Our message is getting lost because we dedicated 100% of our attention on McCain-Palin.
Again, if you do the analysis of the last three weeks, there is more news of McCain than Obama. Despite a successful democratic convention, the message of the convention is already lost. The only thing we hear about is McCain-Palin. Why can't TPM post snippet of the convention speech on their home page?
The undecided voters out there are not going to vote for Obama if they can't figure out where he stand on the issues. It is our job as a blogger to get the message out. I like referring friends to this website but what good does it gives if all they see is anti McCain-Palin ticket. I don't have problem with whacking McCain on the head but i want the undecided to know that they have alternatives. For every anti-McCain analysis on this website, I want to see pro-Obama analysis by the side. That is how we can inform the viewers that are undecided.

One can only conclude, therefore, that McCain and Palin's game plan is working perfectly -- and TPM is helping, in its way. Call McPalin liars all you want. They don't care. Their plan is to keep Obama's lethal charisma out of sight.
And it's working.

The tactic here is that we've got Barack's back! We're doing the heavy lifting of attacking his opponents. We're going after Palin because that kneecaps mcSham. And linked together, they are Soul Mates in Slime.
The whole point of our strategy is take these liars down! so Barack and Biden can concentrate on laying out the issues to all the folks that need to be persuaded.
Meanwhile the Soul Mates cannot abide being apart. Which is prevents them from adequately covering the battlegrounds. Yay!
Plus, all of us here are so well-versed in the issues and our great candidates, we really don't need to hear that over and over.
Hope this clarifies things.

...so this is what it comes down to. Palin was selected to be the 2nd most powerful person in these united states. She has given their base a reason to be happy, or excited, or whatever you want to call it. But for the rest of america, we don't know her and she has been shielded by the campaign. This country was built under key principals, one of those principals is "freedom is speech". The press serves as a function of the people to inform us about many an issue, including keeping tabs on those we elect to public office. So, it is their duty to inform us who is running for that 2nd most powerful person, and eventhough that campaign HAND SELECTED the lucky soul who was given the chance to probe this selection for the FIRST TIME, it seems it didnt go as they wanted it to go. So instead of going after Palin for not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is and other gibbirish, they go after the media. Check out what the pathetic slug of the human race, also known as matt drudge, headlines (outside of IKE IKE IKE IKE IKE IKE) on his sad webpage:
KRAUTHAMMER: Charlie Gibson's Gaffe...
WIRE: ABC grilled Palin hard, but it may backfire...
Ex-Clinton Aide: 'Media is on Very Dangerous Ground'...
So there it is, Palin is as dumb as a (lip)stick, and has PROVEN she shouldn't be on their ticket, but no, Charlie Gibson is the one to blame.
Sick....Sick and Sick.
If McCain is elected, and i pray every night that it doesnt, I hope when the russian/iranian/whoever new enola gay drops the bomb on our country, i hope ground zero is matt drudge's rat hole

As for this "I told Congress thanks but no thanks," all that it would take to reveal that for the shameless lie that it is is a simple question: "Really? In what way/format did you tell that to Congress? Did you send them a memo or letter? Or did you hold a press conference to tell Congress that? Did you call members of Congress? How did you let them know that you no longer wanted the money for the bridge? Can you show us the documentary evidence that you told the Congress you didn't want the bridge?"
Big lies are really not all that hard to pick apart - you just have to ask the right question, the question that leaves no place to hide.

PALIN: I am sure that there are efficiencies that are going to be found in all of these agencies. I'm confident in that.
GIBSON: The agencies are not involved in entitlements. Basically, discretionary spending is 18 percent of the budget.
PALIN: We have certainly seen excess in agencies, though, and in -- when bureaucrats, when bureaucracy just gets kind of comfortable, going with the status-quo and not being challenged to find efficiencies and spend other people's money wisely, then that's where we get into the situation that we are into today, and that is a tremendous growth of government, a huge debt, trillions of dollars of debt that we're passing on to my kids and your kids and your grandkids ... It's unacceptable.
Unbelievable, simply Unbelievable, that as a Mayor, and as Governer...You do not know that Social Security and or Medicare and Medicad are not involved in entitlements????
And now you want to be VP of the Nation????

There are two types of politicians...
The ones that deny, deny, deny.
Then there are the ones that avoid, avoid, avoid.
Sarah is developing her avoid political skill set.
Palin should fill in for Obama on Saturday Night Live since she would fit in well with the cast that were formerly called the not ready for prime time players.

does anyone else think it's important that, during the questioning on the economy, when Charlie Gibson mentioned entitlements, she kept referring to "these agencies." she clearly didn't know what 'entitlements' referred to, and even when he said "social security, medicare and medicaid" she referred back to 'agencies' and not programs...
is this a failing of her Cliff's notes on the economy, or does she really not KNOW what social security, medicare and medicaid are?
this seems more important to me than her not knowing what "the Bush Doctrine" means.

i'd apologize for the clone post, but it seems to be a common problem.
btw, is anyone else disturbed by her overly beauty queen hand gestures. palms together with the thumbs crossed, holding the hand out flat with all the fingers and thumb tightly together. who gestures like that? she kept lookin like she was playing royalty.

There is one thing that is mystifying to us rational elitist types that seek, maybe not always successfully, to get past our lizard brain, to evolve, let's say. We fail to understand that the beauty queen hands and gestures are what people see and how they respond to her when they shift into lizard mode. Karl Rove knows the lizard brain. Part of her script was obviously her posture and her tone.
The questions about the Bush Doctrine were met with air punches and talking down to poor Charlie, who she reminded was named Charlie more then once, as if HE was the moran at the meeting. Another subliminal "signal" of her superiority and displeasure was repeating how "we will not second guess" Israel's decisions. She repeated this to let Charlie know there will be no further explanation, that is all he/we deserve.
To lizard brains she appeared strong. She was decisive! If McCain dies, she will be the Decider! My HOPE is that Obama's proposition that Americans are not that stupid will be accurate. My fear is that they are. There were, afterall, enough votes for the Reich to steal the election twice, and it seems even though people have woken up to what Bush has done, they fail to realize Palin is george Bush with LIPSTICK.
September 12, 2008 11:45 PM | Reply | Permalink
I disagree about her posture. I found her hunched over demeanor to look really, really weak. And her jabs with the fist totally contradicted her poster. The lizard brain would see... "weak lady, punching the air.... like a kid... trying to look older and stronger." Then there were the moments of sheer terror in her eyes! Then coupled with the strange putting down of "charlie."
We encode all that. One. Strange. "Ready?"

Has anyone done polling to see what this woman has done to the children of this country? She holds herself, supposedly, to such high standards but then is making a career out of lying. Does she lie like this to her kids? Do they even know if their own mother has ever told the truth? She's a seriously twisted woman who somehow missed out on the day in Sunday school when the 10 Commandments were taught.
And as far as McCain's kids...no hope there. They seem to believe only they have suffered from war. These people all live in little soap bubbles. Toxic little soap bubbles.
These two people should never have been elected for anything and shame on the voters who ever marked a ballot for either of them.

I just saw the full interview on ABC and this portion was slightly different. They edited in the image of of Palin wearing a "Bridge to NoWhere 99901" t-shirt while they were saying the following:
Gibson: You were wearing a t-shirt in the 2006 campaign that showed your support for the bridge to nowhere.
Palin: I was wearing a t-shirt with the zipcode of the community that was asking for that bridge and not all the ...... blah blah blah
Palin's lies: thanks but no thanks!

Difference between W and Palin: W was a master at pretending to be intelligent and presidential to win elections. Palin is a wingnut who actually thinks she is intelligent and presidential.
She is therefore far more dangerous.

It's high time for Obama to not attack Palin but rather use her selection as VP to attack McCain's judgment and decision-making capacity. That's where Palin will hurt McCain. At 72 years and three incidents of malignant skin cancer, how could McCain responsibly select someone with no experience to lead the world should he become incapacitated?
This is a rather RECKLESS decision and is CLEARLY a SERIOUS JUDGMENT FLAW that Obama must relentlessly hit McCain on hard from now till Nov 4.
As you may know, we also have an election up here in Canada on Oct 14. For the first time in my life, I will be voting AGAINST someone as opposed for what I believe in. We cannot afford to have another conservative government up here and you cannot afford to have another republican president.
We owe it to ourselves, to our children, and to the World.
Concerned in Canada!

What is innteresting about this is not that the politicians are lying, but that our so called christian community which has been supporting the Republican party because of its pro life and anti homosexual stance (pardon me while I think of Larry Craig) are not chastising the current crop for lying... which is a sin also in the same community.
It is a sign that the christian belief system here in the United States has wandered totally away from the teachings of Christ and is now just another right wing cult... using the "Christian" designation in name only.
If this were not so, the leaders of the christian faith would be standing up chastising, not remaining mute when these acts occur.
I, as a professing christian find it sorrowful to see my God used this way. I also believe his admonishment of the churches in the book of Revelation can be widely applied to the majority of well known, popular sects here in this country and is especially documented during t his current election cycle...

Now? The airport has existed sine 1973, and I'm guessing the ferry has always run between the airport and Ketchikan. How else would people get there, sprout wings? What's this now Palin's referring to?
From Wikipedia:
A ferry runs to the island every 30 minutes during most of the year, except during the May–September peak tourist season, when it runs every 15 minutes. It charges $5 per adult, with free same-day return, and $6 per automobile each way (as of 2008[update]).[4]

Hard to tell, but it looks from the video like we might have heard "Thanks, but no thanks" for the last time.
MoveOn.org or some other organization (TPM?) could up the ante, though, by offering to donate $500 to NARAL (say) for every new occassion that Palin repeats the "Thanks, but no thanks" on the Bridge to Nowhere line.

What I completely fail to understand is this;
If she and McShame believe she is smart enough and ready in an instant to be Veep or POTUS, why can't anyone ask her any questions?
Why is it sexist to ask her about policy? Why is it sexist to ask her anything at all?
Why was it not sexist for the Resmugs. to try and drag Hillary through the mud?
Why is it okay for McShame to make nasty remarks and jokes about Chelsea Clinton and not be able to ask Palin why her views on reproductive freedom failed to work in her own family?
How would she face down Iraq, Iran, Syria, Russia and all the countries in central and south america?
What does she know about the economy?
What does she know about free trade?
What will she do about poverty, health care, disabled people, etc?
There are so many legitimate questions to be asked in such a short period of time. She needs to find a university somewhere for about 10-12 years and then maybe, just maybe, she'd be qualified.
