New McCain And RNC Ad Attacks Obama On Economy
Sighting: A McCain ad that doesn't call Obama a "celeb"!
The McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee go up with a joint new economic spot in Michigan and Ohio that ties Obama to Congressional Dems and hits both for opposing offshore drilling. Here's the version running in Michigan:
The spot opens with a litany of bad economic news -- closed factories, job losses, soaring gas prices -- suggesting an effort to parry efforts by Obama and the Dems to paint McCain as out of touch with current economic realities. The spot appears to suggest that the only thing keeping our economy in the toilet is Democratic opposition to drilling.
The version running in Ohio is here.

Massive deficit? Drill more! Home foreclosures? Drill More! Losing jobs to companies overseas? Drill More!

The Republicans are really desperate at this point. First, they're trying to steal Obama's brand and it won't work. Second: the economy is in the shitter, so ... keep the ruling party in power! It just doesn't follow, even on a lizard-brain level.

Hmmm... I actually think these ads are lame for McCain but may be a nice set up for Senator Obama. It gives him something to toss back...
and hit out of the park... that's what it feels like to me.

I really find these current ads an act of desparation by republicans. Why would you be running attack ads during your own convention? Isn't that really strange. You would think that they would want people focused on the convention. Mcbush's campaign has been flailing around for over a year and it is still flailing. Hilarious.

I think that "desperation" sums it up nicely. McCain is flailing around aimlessly of late. I almost feel a little sorry for the guy.

Oh, this is getting bad. I can't even work up a snarky come-back. It's too pathetic.

O my gosh - that is bad.

This is the definition of chutzpah. No economic plans, no real understanding of what confronts a nation of whiners, so let's attack the candidate who does.
Chutzpah? No, Rovian.
I really really wish someone would work together an ad that mentions how Sarah Palin described Hillary Clinton as "whining" and Phil Gramm thinks that anyone who isn't making 5 million a year is a "whiner".
When stuff happens to you, average voter, and you speak about it, you're "whining".
When stuff happens to Republicans, it's a "smear", or it's a "private family matter".

I think we can go even lower on the brain level and still it woulldn't follow.
But seriously, with the Unions pushing Obama's message, they really don't stand a chance. Union endorsement and activism is not much in terms of the dem primary, but in the general the Unions will help Obama overcome some voters uncertainty.

The McCain campaign just denied a report to come out in the National Enquirer about Sarah Palin having an affair with her husband's former business associate.

You know what's really ironic about that?
After the Enquirer was the tabloid that wound up breaking the Edwards story long before any other tradition media did, people aren't going to automatically dismiss this claim.
I feel like I'm living in a fun house that has those crazy mirrors covering every available surface.

Well the Inquirer seems to be the only media publication left in America that isn't beholden to Repugs, for some reason.
But believe me, I feel like I've spent the last 6 days on the Tilt-A-Whirl, too.

Just when you think you've run out of Palin scandals, they turn around and surprise you yet again.
Anybody think she'll get up for her big speech tonight and decline the nomination? That would just make everybody's head explode, mine included.
But what else could top this?

Did TPM disable avatars?
September 3, 2008 6:00 PM | Reply | Permalink
Yes. They take up as much or more bandwidth than the actual comments and were gumming up the works even worse than they are now.

Is that what was causing the problems?
I haven't been around much today so I didn't see any explanation. Too bad. I kinda like the avatars.

O shit, me too.
I hope it's not permanent.

No avatars takes the novelty out of this website. The way TPM's been acting this past week, this site could use a complete overhaul.

I wonder how Joe Lieberman feels about this ad with all his Senate colleagues getting smeared by the Rs. (Remmember when they gave him a standing O when he returned after running as an Independent.)
Chuck Schumer was one of the Joe's strongest supporters, shamefully. Now Joe's guy McCain is trashing his buds. nice guy!

By the way - I guess flip flops are just too small time these days to even mention, but isn't the McLame ad pointing out the bad economy a huge flip flop for McLame?

I'll bet Obama's ad people are working on a great response to that as we type.

Boy, Sen McCain had better hope he wins, because if not life is going to be rather rough when he returns to the Senate. Since when is John McCain running against Pat Leahy or Chris Dodd?
September 3, 2008 6:16 PM | Reply | Permalink
Oh, Missouri Voter, life is going to be tough for John McCain vis a vis the Senate, whether he wins or not.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving Straight Talkin' Maverick Express kind o' guy, either.

How in the world does McCain tell us that not drilling is going to make one bit of difference. This problem didn't pop up over night. The Republicans were in power until 2006 why the hell didn't they do something about its then. this has gotten to be such a spin by the Republican party I think everyone in the United States is turn off.

Completely devastating because you know they are not alone, and not by a little.
Once the disillusion wears off, there is going to be Trouble, with a capital "T', and that rhymes with "Pee-You, your veep pick reeks!" The GOP is not known for kindness at these times. Maybe they'll chuck McBUAWAHAHAHAHA?
What about all the pols who are defending her? My, their judgement is certainly suspect, too.
So very dumb. This will be sloshing down-ticket in a tidal wave.

I am watching Race for The White House on MSNBC. I always knew that David Gregory was a tool for the Repubs, but he is out doing himself today. He is rebutting everything that is said positive about Obama and negative for McCain. I guess he figures if Olberman, Chris and Rachael is going to show their "left" colors why not he show his "right."
