McCain Says Palin Is Doing "Numerous" Interviews In Next Couple Of Days
In a passing moment in an interview with a Maine reporter, John McCain appeared to make a bit of news: He seemed to say, perhaps inadvertently, that Palin is doing "numerous" interviews in the next few days.
Asked by the reporter why Palin was ducking the media, McCain said...
"The fact is that she's coming out in the next couple of days with interviews with numerous people. She's very well versed at that, she's been a governor...She'll be doing a lot of conversations with the media, but we wanted to touch base with the American people first."
Anyone know what interviews McCain is talking about? The only one I've heard about is the one with ABC's Charlie Gibson this week. Palin isn't sitting for an interview as part of a CNN special about her that's airing on Saturday. What interviews is McCain referring to?
We've got a request for clarification in to the McCain campaign, and we'll keep you posted.

She's too busy learning National Security and International Relations on flash cards at the moment to do interviews.
...this should terrify anyone.

Once again, John McCain has to speak for her.
I'm sure she's been through the press training that the McCain camp held for her. She'll have her talking points down. And the media will say how impressive she is when in fact she'll be saying nothing at all.
Her rallies will be like Bush's--invited guests only. No media allowed to ask questions, etc.

Two interviews with Gibson is Numerous.
September 11, 2008 1:54 PM | Reply | Permalink
Nice parsing, but he said "interviews with numerous people" so particular parse is not going to work. I think the more likely parse is the one mentioned above -- McCain does not say the interviews are with folks in the press.
September 11, 2008 1:59 PM | Reply | Permalink
I suppose the other way to parse is with respect to "coming out with interviews" -- that could mean that they are being announced as having been scheduled (not that they are actually taking place) within "the next couple of days."

Tom Betz - please get your facts straight.
McCain didn't "sell" his integrity on EBay - his campaign staff "put" it on EBay sometime ago, as is their common practice for Republican candidates.

Are the wars and occupations going to be financed by borrowing from China ?
Oh, Sorry ! Did I interrupt the soap opera with this frivolous inquiry ?

Did anybody just watch that interview? McLame couldn't give one concrete answer to any of the serious questions the reporter asked. No wonder he hasn't taken any questions from the media in weeks.

There was some real nonsense at aprox 4:20:
Question: I'm just asking for an example. What experience does she have in the field of national security?
McCain: "Energy. She knows more about energy than, uh, probably anyone else in the United State of America. She represents as the governor of the state that twenty percent of America's energy supply comes from there."

Actually, I thought the best part was this one:
"Senator McCain, you have said that Islamic extremism is the single greatest threat facing America. How is Governor Palin qualified to be your partner in the fight against that threat?"
"Well, the economy is also a serious issue."

Watch the whole thing. The interviewer really puts McCain on the defensive for Palin. This would actually be a good line of attack: make McCain answer for Palin, and highlight his bad judgement.

Agree that McCain means several interviews with Gibson. Also, if you go back to the original videotape, McCain calls them "conversations," a signal that nothing hard-hitting will be allowed for Palin.

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss
I hear Daltrey's scream and feel my soul shredding with this election.

Governor Palin, is it fair to characterize your fiscal/social policy while in local and state office as that of a "Tax and Spend Conservative?"
September 11, 2008 2:39 PM | Reply | Permalink
Leaked from a Palin briefing session:
"OK, Sarah, let's try again. Iran is NEAR Iraq, but they're not the same country. Can you remember that? And if anyone asks you anything complicated about Sunni and Shia, or anything like that, just make the joke about dropping the bomb and letting God sort them out. Then tell the reporter you were just kidding, make that little ringing sound you've been practicing, and pretend to answer your phone. Then tell them you've got an unexpected national security crisis to deal with which involves sending the Alaska National Guard across the Bering Strait into Russia. That should hold them off for awhile while we work on economic policy."

Forget the claim of multiple interviews, this is McCain's answer in the interview when asked about Pallin's national security experience:
"Energy, she knows more about energy than anyone in the United States of America."
I had to listen three times to make sure my ears weren't deceiving me. They weren't.

...but we wanted to touch base with the American people first...
As in...we wanted her to sit down in a fabulously lit interview setting with flowers and beautiful furnishings and have Charlie toss out a few softball questions like "what keeps you up at night?" and "as a mother what goes through your head watching your son head off to Iraq, especiall on 9/11" or "do you really know how to make moose stew?" all preceded by a fluff bio piece with cute anecdotes about little baracuda's childhood. Then we will wait a few more days and then entertain requests from the deferential press to sit down and do it all over again.

wow, that interview is laden with crap. "sen. obama has never taken on his party on any issue." what was the vote on going to war, again? i'm pretty sure a ton of dems went for it. and what about FISA? that sure pissed off the left, if i read the blogs correctly. those are just two examples, and i know there are a lot more.
i also like how mccain says that the decision between maine's senators or palin for VP came down to "some very close calls" or whatever he said. so i guess they were on the short list? uh-huh, i'm sure.
and as for that "close call" being resolved in palin's favor because of being a governor, then why not mitt? hell, for a while there, he purported to be sort of pro-choice, i think, didn't he? if that's not "taking on your party," i don't know what is. or how about ridge? dir. of homeland security, former governor, bucks the party on, for instance, abortion, as i understand it.
conclusion: MORE BULLSHIT EXPRESS.
September 11, 2008 2:52 PM | Reply | Permalink
That "taking on your own party" argument is pure garbage, and I wish Obama would point that out. Obama has worked across the aisle with Republicans to get things done. Just because he didn't start a war with the Democrats in doing so, that's supposed to make his accomplishments invalid? McCain's entire world view is tied up in his military experience. He BELIEVES in getting into fights with people. Fighting is what defines him. Which is why he would be a lousy, dangerous president.
Obama needs to point out--over and over--that you don't need to fight with people to get things done. Unless, apparently, you're John McCain.

The news media should start doing interviews with an empty chair.
Imagine Anderson Cooper saying: If Gov. Palin were here, we would ask her how she would respond to evidence that she lied about the bridge to nowhere? How does she defend her record as governor when she asked for more earmarks per capita than any other state, when she raised taxes, etc.? Can she expect to get votes from women after having made rape victims pay for their own rape kits (and why does Alaska rate #1 for rapes in America, and #2 for murders of women by men)?
If all the networks did the empty chair interview and put out all the questions and accusations, then maybe she might condescend to answer a few questions for the American people.

I do believe it's high time that the Obama people started putting out ads directly raising the issue of McCain's age. Subtlety doesn't seem to be working with the public. The media needs to explain to viewers the unprecedented lack of Palin interviews....or completely ignore her. Do not cover her if nothing is happening.
After McCain wins the election every American should line up and punch a news anchor of their choice in the stomach. I choose Chuck Gibson.
