McCain Campaign: Mulitple Palin Interviews In Works For Next Week

The McCain campaign confirms to me that multiple Sarah Palin interviews are being negotiated with various media outlets -- and that the interviews are set to start early next week.

The McCain campaign confirmed the plans in response to our request for clarification of McCain's quotes in an interview with a Maine news outlet, in which he said: "The fact is that she's coming out in the next couple of days with interviews with numerous people."

A McCain campaign aide declined to offer specifics, but said the interviews were set to begin early in the week, after Palin's return from Alaska. Asked if she were confining her interviews to conservative outlets, the aide said no -- and added a little dig at McCain's leading media nemesis.

"She's going to be doing all kinds of media, though I doubt MSNBC will appear on the schedule," the aide said.

It's unclear yet, obviously, whether Palin has any immediate plans to submit to questioning from the nation's top tier political reporters. But she is going to be appearing in some not-entirely-friendly venues.

Is she scared?

Obama took on Bill O'Reilly. Why can't McCain / Palin take on MSNBC?

Imagine talking to a powerful foreign leader....

user-pic

Did they say televised interviews? Or just interviews?

If the latter, I'm picturing you submit your questions by email. And a speechwriter goes to work on each one!

I'd like to hear her response to the stories about her charging victims of rape for the cost of their forensic tests. That seems to have legs. McClatchy and USA Today have stories up. Take a look.

Perhaps an interviewer could get her to comment on McCrazie's horoscope for his birthday this past August 29th....
Today's birthday (Aug. 29): You're so used to working hard for what you want that this year throws you for a loop -- success comes effortlessly. You're pulled into the romance of a relationship in September, seeing the world differently because of it. The career move you make in December cinches your promotion. There's a windfall in January. Libra and Aries adore you. Your lucky numbers are 4, 20, 11, 40 and 16.

Check out the crosstabs on those Insider Advantage polls. In Michigan, they have McCain leading Obama by double digits in the 18-29 age group. In OH, they have Obama getting only 48% of the black vote and McCain getting 23%. The rest (27%) are undecided. Yeah, right.

From the looks of things, the Black and Hispanic crosstabs were switched.

user-pic

How come no on'e talking about how great http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/ is anymore?

Actually, I just referred to it in the last thread. Try and keep up.

I don't believe a word of the 18 - 29 yo group; I was just back in MI over Labor Day visiting family and all of the older folks (my sibling, cousins, and parents/aunts/uncles) are voting McCain but all of the next generation are solidly Obama, and they tell me that they don't know ANYONE their age voting McCain. They're living in a heavily Republican, rural part of SE Michigan.

user-pic

Not just conservative outlets?

Um, I'd like to know if these are going to be "news" outlets, conservative or otherwise.

And it's astonishing that the McCain people think Palin is going to be ready after a week of prep.

They must have multiple copies of "National security for Dummies!" in the briefing materials.

Funny how the tough-talkin', "we'll keep you safe" Republican party led by POW POW POW "I know how to win wars" John McCain and their pitbull hockey mom Sarah Palin are so afraid of lil' ol' Keith Olbermann. What a bunch of pussies. But, they are the same precious little flowers who were so offended and aggrieved by that mean ol' Campbell Brown.

Wusses.

I'm sort of grateful we won't see Chris Matthews interviewing Palin.

A Chicken With Lipstick?

Anyone notice the tabs on the Insider Advantage polls in Colorado and Ohio.
In Ohio, where they have Obama down 1 point, they show McSame winning 23% of the African-American vote.
In Colorado, where they have Obama ahead by 3 points, they show McSame winning 25% of the African-American vote.
Yeah, right.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin and a chicken? Lipstick.

user-pic

You know what? I'm walking the threads with you from now on.

I love the way you throw it back.

She's probably going to do interviews with local newspapers I bet.

user-pic

Given that it has been local reporters who have made McCain the most uncomfortable during this campaign ("Senator McCain, would you care to comment on why health insurance covers Viagra but not birth control?") that might not be such a bad thing.

Lots of interviews with Talk radio hosts. Fox news, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Times?
You know,(wink, wink) the Legitimate, objective Press.

Maybe we can get former DOJ hack, Monica Goodling to ask her:

What is it about John McCain that makes you want to serve him?

palin plumets like a stone... starting next week...

MCCAIN has the football. Tackle MCCAIN!!!

I could careless if she EVER gives an interview. She's a distraction. McCain is the head and brains of the operation, she's just one his appendages. Kill the head, you kill the body.

user-pic

I totally agree with you. Interviews just breath more life into her and prolong her as a storyline for another week. She'll obviously do well in them. We shouldn't be looking for her to sink because of media interviews.

Now, McCain? That's a different story. Take him down . . . HARD!

Finally, a voice of reason tempered by insight.

user-pic

I doubt she'll be on O'Reilly, but I imagine she might go on Fux with someone like Carl Cameron, she'll certainly do Rush Limbaugh, maybe Hannity, maybe Savage, and she'll probably do something like sit down with Rick Warren or some megachuch/media empire figure.

Interviews means "The View" or "Ellen" it does not mean MTP or Face the Nation.

Infotainment shows, sure... see my comment, below... but NOT those two shows.

McCain/Rove camp may be evil, but they ain't stupid. Joy Behar and Ellen Degeneres would be picking pieces of Sarah out of their stool! (apologies to the late, great Phil Hartman. Or was it Joe Piscopo? :-)

It was Hartman doing Sinatra.

Yes, featuring "SINE-AID" O'Connor!

(Also "Sinbad"; "the bald chick"; and "Mr. Clean". :-)

So rude. I don't think I've ever laffed so much at an SNL bit.

It's a cinch these "media outlets" will have to show a lot of "deference", if they're going to get on the list to have an audience with St. Sarah of Wasilla.

Just to give you a preview of where this entire fairy tale is all heading:

I saw a promo on broadcast TV yesterday for the tabloid news show "Extra". They were promoting an upcoming feature piece anout Sarah and her husband Biff (?); made, I presume, from clips of interviews with various people, and without benefit of the participation of Gov. Perky or the McCain campaign... it's a tabloid show, after all:

A 20-YEAR LOVE AFFAIR

... any questions, then?

To prove once and for all that she has want it takes and more to be Vice President, Sara Palin has also agreed to make a guest appearance on "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?"

This is still a story of hiding her from the voters, and the press should not let up until she holds a news conference or submits to an actual grilling from someone (which we can assume won't happen with ABC).

"Negotiated" interviews = softball forums and puff pieces.

The McCain campaign wants to feed her celebrity buzz, and they want to offer enough exposure in these forums that they can deflect criticism for not having her do any actual news interviews.

What I want to know is this: When McCain neutered the press, did he do it with a rubber band or did his pitbull just gnaw off their investigative skills??

What I want to know is this: When McCain neutered the press, did he do it with a rubber band or did his pitbull just gnaw off their investigative skills??

user-pic

This is getting ridiculous. It's all Palin all the time, and we're just feeding the frenzy with constant harping about the press and the lies. This "roll-out" will, if we let it, control the news cycles for several weeks. And we have lowered expectations for Ms. Palin so much that she'll have to work pretty hard to disappoint.

It's clear we're not going to rid ourselves of this pretender to the throne, and the public doesn't care how much the Republicans lie and obfuscate, so let's just get back on the issues before it's too late.

Actually, I think Obama's about the only one who has kept his bearing through all of this.

user-pic

And gee, your handle is familiar - NOT.

Can the concern. You just make it obvious how important this really is.

Official A has been around for a while. Back in the days when we had pictures, you would have recognized him for his black and white line drawing of a pig.

user-pic

Thanks for recognizing me without my photo! This is actually my second incarnation at TPM. I took this moniker when Patrick Fitzgerald's report came out, which happened to be about the same time I got booted for remarks liberally interpreted as wishing harm on a widely despised public official who happened to shoot his friend in the face.

user-pic

What? You don't recognize the handle so the post is bogus? Get real. You don't run this board and just because your hair is on fire about Palin doesn't mean it's the right approach. I think the consensus is growing that giving her too much attention is feeding the beast. You might disagree but that doesn't mean you're right. And a week from now, you'll be the odd man out.

user-pic

Look, I don't care what you or anyone else talks or writes about, Tena. I just think we're playing into the trap set for us, which will make a tough, embattled survivor out of Palin when in fact she is supremely wrong on the issues (not to mention qualifications, but I think that's the wrong line of attack).

Now, for the record, I was participating here before you were, and anyone paying attention knows where I stand. Employing the troll moniker indiscriminately lessens its effect when a real one comes around.

And I have as much right to tell you what I think as you have to tell me to fuck off. You don't own TPM.

user-pic

Thank you! That Tena bitch thinks she owns this board. Disagree with her and you're a troll. What a loser . . .

user-pic

To be fair, I agree with Tena almost all of the time, and you have to give her points for enthusiasm and color. Perhaps I shouldn't take her criticism so hard, but his is the first time I have ever been turned on by a like-minded soul at TPM. Happens all the time at HuffPo, but HuffPo is urban. TPM has those small town values, you know.

user-pic

Thank you! That Tena bitch thinks she owns this board. Disagree with her and you're a troll. What a loser . . .

user-pic

Spot on, Official A! We are behaving like morons over this Palin crap. We've got to remember that we are *for* Obama, not just *against* Palin. We made the mistake of being simply against Bush in 2004 and we know how that turned out.

We need to remind everyone we know why we believe in Obama, what it will mean if he's elected. Put down the Palin crack pipe for a couple of days and you'll feel so much better (and sane).

user-pic

And you're a troll.

Your continued insistence on this line tells me that. Also your agreement with the concern trolls here.

I know who is and who isn't. I could write the script for y'all - I've heard it 4 times now, in 4 elections.

user-pic

If troll means I don't agree with your stupid ass, then I guess I am! You can't disagree with my reasoning so you want to discount me as not being an Obama supporter. Well, fuck you!

I know how many doors I've knocked on and how many voters I've registered for Obama. I know how much money I've given him.

And if saying "we need to get off Palin and back on the issues" makes me a troll, then I guess Obama himself must be a troll, too. I guess Joe Biden must be a troll. I guess David Axelrod must be a troll. All of them are trying to steer this back to the issues.

If you'd stop foaming at the mouth, you'd realize that the more the focus is on Palin, the less it's on Obama and the harder it is for him to get his message out.

user-pic

O, ok. You're not a troll.

You're just an asshole.

You have called me names and tried to get up in my shit since the very first time I can recall seeing your nym. The night you jumped me because I was taking issue with Eric.

All you do is proffer lousy opinions and insult me.

So fuck right the fuck off.

user-pic

You know why I insult you, Tena? Because you're a bossy asshole! You're here a lot and you think that entitles you to run things. I've seen you post a dozen times that you don't recognize a handle so the poster is crap.

You remind me of those mean girls in high school who appoint themselves as the arbiters of who's in and who's out. We're all Obama supporters and we will often disagree about tactics but you come off like you're the Queen Bee and it's your way or the high way.

You're a real jerk and you're so consumed with yourself that you don't recognize others like Official who's been around forever.

user-pic

By the way, darlin - I'm sorry, I should have realized that you have mommy issues.

user-pic

O, ok. You're not a troll.

You're just an asshole.

Nothing in this story says "not so friendly venues." I think that is a tremendous leap of confidence that she would.

Uh oh. New video discovery. This is going to play well.

"Handsome young man limps to freedom after years of torture. Film at 11."

My guess is that a standard part of the deal offered to a select number of sympathetic "journalists" is a requirement that all questions be submitted to campaign staff in advance. Doesn't this make sense? That way, she won't be caught off-guard, and every answer will be like a mini-campaign speech. If this is the case, I wonder if any of those networks gutless enough to take the deal will disclose the terms.

user-pic

Look - we don't control what the media talks about. WE don't control what Obama talks about.

IF we want to talk about Sarah Palin or fucking macrame, so the fuck what?

If you don't want to talk about her, find another thread on a different post on a different page on a different fucking subject.

And shut the fuck up here.

New slogan:

"There are lies, damn lies, and then there is Sarah Palin."

user-pic

LOL!

O I like it -

user-pic

Fuck negoitations. Palin is a PUBLIC OFFICAL seeking a PUBLIC OFFICE.

PUBLIC scrutiny is a requirement. Palin NEEDs to submit or withdraw.

Does McInsane have so little faith in her, becuase she is a woman, that he will not let her speak in public?

I know that the Republicans are the Party of the American Rupturian Taliban BUT this is ridiculous.

I am pissed beyond all belief.

What's this "negotiating"? Anyone running for VP should talk about issues in unstructured settings to give us voters a sense of how suitable this person is for the 2nd highest office in the country.

I love you.

You got it, hoss.

user-pic

Before every "interview", there should be a disclaimer stating the questions Palin refuses to answer.

We know how much news stations like to claim journalistic integrity (i.e., the ability to ask "tough" questions). MSNBC ought to make a commercial about this.

Tagline: MSNBC, politicians fear us.

Actually, this bit of information reinforces my choice to watch MSNBC over all the other blab-a-thon networks. (Though NPR and C-SPAN, and of course the blogs, are choice number one).

user-pic

Roger Ailes: “The candidates that can’t face Fox, can’t face Al Qaeda,” adding, "and that's what's coming."

user-pic

Whoa!

See, I knew when McLame threw National Security out the window it was going to most likely sink him. That's been the Repugs' winning issue/theme for 7 years and he just gave it away.

user-pic

I really believe that McLame sunk himself when he just handed National Security to Obama. No one takes Palin seriously as someone who could keep Americans safe and that has been the Repugs' winning issue/theme for 7 years.

Can we please make a commercial of McCain and Palin prancing around together with Bruce Springsteen singing the song "going down"?????

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZarmRLa2p9Q

Anytime I see either of them speak this song pops into my head and it's either for their campaign if they lose or America if they win.

I heard that radio jock Ed Schulz is flying over a foreign country (Canada) on his flight to Alaska tomorrow. He should know that this educational and intelligence-gathering move (being near to a foreign country) actually qualifies him to be the Secretary of State in the McCain/Palin administration.

So, if he drops all that liberal stuff and just plays his cards right . . .

No candidate for President OR for VP in the television era has ever avoided full access to the media, all the time, from the day of the convention onward until election day. Ever. The media want their shot at Palin without restrictions, and no matter how much of a pro-McCain bias they have, they will be madder than hell if they don't get it. Many careers have been boosted or even made by doing a routine small-time interview with a VP candidate such as Dan Quayle, Al Gore, etc. and getting a big headline. The McCain campaign wants to shut out every chance of that and put Palin in a Greta Garbo mode? The media will rebel for sure, their own egos and careers are at stake. It transcends politics.

Will she be doing off-the-cuff interviews on the campaign trail? Will she take quetions from reporters at campaign stops? Indeed, will she take questions from the audiences--of course, that is if they are truly open to the public.

hmmm...starting to wonder about "plants" in the audiences with prepared--and previewed--questions?

user-pic

Plant: Tell us something you did that you were very proud of.

Palin: Well one day I was feeling kind of bad. But I got up anyway and went in to work.

Plant: So we can expect that kind of hard-working work ethic?

Palin: Yes, I intend to infect everyone!

Rick Warren, Sean Hannity, Larry King. She won't do Meet the Press, Face the Nation, or even This Week because even George might have one tough question.

it says mulitple

Let's hook her up with Ted Koppel, a real journalist and not a talk show host.

“Porky” Palin – hey, as it turns out, that pig does wear lipstick….wow!!!

After McCain said earlier this year that he won't "spend $3 million of your tax dollars to study the DNA of bears in Montana," Politico reports that as governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin requested millions of dollars to study the DNA of harbor seals, among other things (including research on the mating habits of crabs.)

Intelligent people everywhere are both amused and appalled that Palin, who claims she is conservative when it comes to earmarks, would request federal money for a project nearly identical to one that McCain has mocked. The earmark is yet another example of how McCain and Palin are "hypocrites and liars."

http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/9/11/02449/9021

At the end of the clip, John McCain promises that he'll make the names of wasteful government spenders "famous."

Apparently, he kept his pledge: he picked one of them to be his veep.

“We’re not going to spend $3 million of your tax dollars to study the DNA of bears in Montana,” McCain has said during this year’s campaign, referring to a study he’s mocked for years of whether grizzlies need to keep their status as an endangered species.

Palin, meanwhile, has requested $3.2 million to be spent in part researching the “genetics of harbor seals,”

"Senator McCain said Governor Palin ‘learned that earmarks are bad’, but in 2008 alone Gov. Palin requested $256 million in earmarks for Alaska, and her state received more earmarks per person that any other state," said spokesman Tommy Vietor. "The fact is that Governor Palin isn’t just good at getting pork projects, she’s one of the most successful pork barrel politicians in history."
