Hillary To Raise Half A Million Dollars For Obama At Private Manhattan Dinner
Hillary is set to do what is likely to be her only high-dollar fundraiser for Obama before the election -- an intimate dinner in Manhattan where she's planning to raise at least $500,000 for the Illinois Senator's presidential run from some of the party's wealthiest donors.
The dinner will take place on September 22nd, at the Upper East Side home of her campaign's finance chairman, Hassan Nemazee, who is one of the most prolific fundraisers in the Democratic Party.
"This is the only dinner that Hillary is doing in New York," Nemazee tells me in confirming the plans. "It's probably the only opportunity to have an intimate dinner with Senator Clinton on behalf of the Obama campaign."
Couples will pay $28,500 each to attend, and the cash will go to the Democratic National Committee's Victory fund to elect Obama.
Asked if he'd lined up enough commitments to achieve the dinner's goal, Nemazee said: "I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't have commitments."
The effort to tap Hillary as a fundraising draw comes as Obama's finance team is stepping up the pressure on Democratic fundraisers to bring in more money as the full weight of Obama's decision to forego public financing becomes apparent.

Thank you, Senator Clinton- mighty big of you, mighty big "D", Democratic of you!

The ironic thing is Bush... I mean McCain, wanted to pick Paris Hilton as his running mate, but his advisors said she was too knowledgeable about the issues to run on the Republican ticket.

Wonder how she's doing on getting campaign debt settled?
She and Bill were the top money raisers for the Democratic Party for a very long time, and I had read it mostly her.

I still love how Obama just shut them the fuck up. Both of them. They are talented and must be well-managed.
The GOP has less than 2 months before it faces the same Doom.

That is one of the most frightening things I have ever read.
You get sexually assaulted in Wasilla under Palin's reign, you get charged $300 - $1200 to find the person who did it.
Same thing happens to you in Illinois, you get all (up to $27k)medical expenses covered, kits, and loss of earnings covered.
How tragic. Read that link, highly recommended.

Nice.
Here is a potential circumstance under The Palin Plan or Planned Palinhood if you please:
Get sexually assaulted, get charged $1k to find attacker, go to hospital, if no insurance another $1k-$5k. Become pregnant, no choice but to have baby, no insurance (another $12-$20k).
So, because of one terrible attack the mother will probably be bankrupt with a newborn, no father, no income, no job. What could her options be?
USA! USA! USA! If that scenario is possible it makes me embarrassed to be an American.

Jeez, from the tone of your interview Greg it seems the Clinton camp is still pretty bitter.
Is Hassan Nemazee posting on TPM under the name fogu?

And Greg? I don't know if this matters, but I keep getting the dreaded "Internal Server Error" when I've tried to post a comment to a reader's blog in the Cafe.
For the love of everything decent, will TPM please fix the gnarly stupidity that is the comment system?
I'd donate money for this cause.

I am a strong believer that national polls are meaningless (and i probably sound like a hypocrite), but look in the upper right corner and notice two polls showing Obama bouncing back nationally.

Slowly but surely
heh heh...yet MORE proof Time is relative.
There was a day not very long ago when we could not have known these things for days and weeks, if ever. And by the time we got them, they had been sanitized to absurdity.
The People vetting a VEEP candidate instead of the Campaign? Incredable. How could McCain think he could get away with this?
The People dethroned King Bubbuh and Jane. It's clear it can unmask McCain, but only if Obama supporters stop complaining and shift it into fifth gear. This election will be won on the ground where it was started.
NOW GO FIGHT!

Pardon me if I vomit now. To think Hillary is lifting a finger after the hatchet job she got from Obama.....
September 9, 2008 2:27 PM | Reply | Permalink
The proof will come if Obama starts to flame out, and what she does.
Otherwise, she needs Obama to win to vindicate her policy positions. Palin threw a serious wrench into Hillary's Werks: Hillary must continue to be that very fighter we saw at the convention, for her sake, and the party's sake. I have seen nothing to indicate Obama is anything other than a vehicle for her at this point. Palin's view make this a real fight for women's rights now.
Let her rip, says I.
By the bye, I do not see Obama flaming out. Nothing John McCain has done since the primaries has threatened Obama's keys to success: ground, money, org, and voter registrations.
Not to mention the truth.

This is pretty damn generous considering her debt situation.
Who thinks Obama made a mistake on turning down public financing? The NYT article has people making good cases both ways. I'm not sure what I think.
September 9, 2008 2:49 PM | Reply | Permalink
I don't know if he made a mistake or not, but I do know that Adam Nagourney will take any situation and explain at length why it's going to be a problem for Obama.
I'd like to add my thoughts to that piece in the Times. It's not entirely clear that the Obama campaign is, in fact, behind their fundraising totals. Earlier it was reported that they were, but that was in comparison to the $100 million a month that some anonynmous Democratic fundraise not connected with the campaign in anyway tossed out in June, right after Obama got the nomination.
In June. By an anonmyous fundraiser. Not connected to the Obama campaign. And everyone refers back to that number, without ever mentioning whether that number came from the Obama campaign.
Second, the Times is basing its assessment about the Obama campaign being behind on the fact that the Obama campaign is now being more vigorous in its fundraising push. Well, wouldn't they be, regardless of the funding goals, at this point, anyway?
I just don't know that I buy the whole premise, and the fact that Adam N. was one of the authors makes me doubly skeptical.

So happy that she's doing this, BUT.... could really use her in DC trying to talk some sense into Nancy Pelosi. They need to force some of these GOPers to vote no on the SCHIP bill just a few days before the election. Why is she taking everything good off the table???
