Hillary To Campaign For Obama In Florida
A bunch of you have written to ask where Hillary is in the wake of Sarah Palin's speech, and here's an answer.
Hillary is set to campaign in Florida for Obama on Monday, a source familiar with her schedule tells me.
Though the details of the trip have yet to be worked out, and the trip's message hasn't been settled on yet, her planned campaigning suggests that the Obama team may start reaching out to Hillary more aggressively in the days ahead to counter whatever effects Palin has.
More when we learn it.

Good.
I hope she highlights the inconsistencies of Governor Palin.
And preface it with "I know I"ll be accused of being sexist for pointing this out, but...."
I really want the Dems to jump all over that sexist crap. Otherwise, the media will be cowed into not reporting about the real Sarah Palin, and this will, indeed, be an election about personalities, not issues.

Sarah can't even compare to clinton. I hope Hillary goes out there and slams Palin. I have saw a few of her events and she never harshly goes after McCain like she went after Obama during the primaries. I wish clinton would start being tougher, I kind of hate saying that since I have accused her of being extremely mean, but being mean works.

Yes, I imagine it's hard to choose a specific message as the collapse proceeds in real time. The Palin Pick is emerging as THE fart in church.
The MSM is still venerating the Convention Process, but that era has less than 12 hours to live. Chris and Keith are champing at the bit, but the Elder Brokow keeps smacking them back. The tension on their set last night was palpable.
I cannot get my head around this: why does ANY woman need a $300,000 dress?!? I am appalled with about 300,000 P's....

Well, to be sure, the dress wasn't $300,000 but "only" $3000. The diamond jewelry were what drove the price deep into 6 digits.
I have a feeling Hillary is going to make a good 'pit bull' herself the next few weeks. Good for her.

Because thanks to the boundless kindness of the liberal blogs, her list of anti-Obama one-liners was broadcast to a much bigger audience.

How unbelievable sexist can that be? :-)

Besides, she's a hell of a fighter (nobody ever said different) why wouldn't team democrat want to put her in the game?
I think deploying Sebelius first was a good move though. As a female and state governor she can speak right to Palin (and talk down to her as a junior) calling her on the experience 1 year of governorship brings to the table. Hillary couldn't do that as effectively. Now Hill comes in as the ole 1-2. Fun to watch everyone work together.

This week will be dominated by the GOP convention. There's no need to have Hillary swoop in just yet, she'd get drowned out by McCain. Considering CNN and other networks had NO Dems on their coverage last night (they did have GOPers during Dem Convention coverage) it wouldn't be mentioned.
There's 60 days til election day...we'll have enough time.
I know it's hard to remember, but this is their time in the sun. We had ours last week. After tonight, it's down to brass tacks. No more convo advantage for either party.

I agree. Clinton vs. Palin has nothing to do with McCain.
And let's not forget that the Republicans don't actually like Hillary Clinton. It wouldn't take much to reignite the old Clinton hatred, which would probably be much more detrimental to the Obama campaign than these silly sexism charges.

I disagree.
I'm no Hillary fan, but I must say Hillary should hit Palin HARD on Friday.
Why Friday?
Because it will kill whatever momentum Mr. Cindy McCain has coming out of the convention and because the announcement of Palin last Friday killed Obama's momentum coming out of the DNC.
The only way I'd take this back is if tonight McCain totally screws up. If he botches it Hillary should wait until next week to begin the pit fighting.

Hillary does whatever is asked of her by the campaign. Obama doesn't want to rally the GOP base further by putting Clinton out front and center. Obama will ask her to campaign in strategic states and areas. I expect Hillary to be complimentary of Palin, and then ignore her.
The GOP wanted Obama to rush to use Hillary to combat Palin, and in doing so it would have given certain stature to Palin.
The key is to give Palin no free press, make the McCain campaign waste time and money to introduce her to the electorate.
They played it perfect last night - her attacks were typical GOP campaign attacks. She says she's a reformer, but in her second sppech she is already playing the GOP game.
Obama isn't trying to convert the Republican base - he's about making sure Dems vote and trying to lure the independents and centrists his way, while not seeming like a bad guy to moderate Republicans (so they either may not vote, or at least be open to him as President, should he be elected).
There are republicans who would rather lose to Obama than win with McCain because McCain would further damage their brand.
In order to rally the GOP base McCain and Palin have to throw them red meat, and while it certainly goes over well with that target crowd, it also prods and pokes Dems and gets their backs up.

When the rival campaign is specifically targeting supporters of a former candidate, it's helpful to have that former candidate pitch in to put a stop to it.
September 4, 2008 2:54 PM | Reply | Permalink
What would be more helpful is to have the candidate speaking to that group directly which he STILL has not done. Just sends Hillary out. The folks that are going to vote for Obama because Hillary supports him are already won. Until Obama himself starts campaigning for their votes, there is very little else Hillary can do to brign the rest home.
In the very simplest terms, who really respects a guy that sends his wingman over to hit on a girl? Obama needs to step up to the plate instead of lounging in the background cooly waiting for his Hillary to bring him the votes of Hillary supporters that are still up for grabs.

Based on Obama's remarks yesterday on the campaign trail -- he spent a ton of time on equal pay for equal work, the right to choose and so forth -- I would say he IS doing just that. But that does not change the fact that the most effective response to Palin would be from a woman, because it damps down the ability for Palin to turn around and play the victim/sexism card.

Hillary doesn't wear skirts, she wears pantsuits.
She is a surrogate, why can't she be deployed against Palin? Look, there's a big quote from Palin calling Hillary a whiner. Where did they get it? At a women-in-power type conference. There she is, sitting with Janet Napolitano. So, until we don't have to have girl-group meetings, I think we still have to tread pretty carefully when it comes to men "attacking" women. Palin can be a pit bull, but Biden can't bully her. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

This is an absolutely BRILLIANT move by Barack, Hillary. My thesis is this:
Never mind the current shenanigans. Barack and co go hard after FL. Not only can they win. But it will have an Obama ripple effect on the other swing states if he starts doing well there.
At the very end of the DNC, a FL delegate confirmed my thoughts and plainly stated that Bill and Hillary should get down to FL ASAP and Barack and Joe should too.
I think they know this, which is why the first campaign event after the DNC was Biden in FL at an elderly Jewish community gathering. And now this.
Brilliant. Perfect timing too. The MSM of course were going apoplectic about the Dem response. But Barack and co have been playing this whole thing p-e-r-f-e-c-t-l-y.

Yep. Hillary Clinton may be electoral poison in some places, but Florida voters seem to like her. She appeals to more conservative, ehm, "hardworking American" voters who are really concerned about the floundering economy. She can talk the policy talk in a way Palin never could. She doesn't have to slam Palin too hard -- she's a living rebuke to Palin just by talking sense, and showing them how a grown-up politician looks, speaks, and thinks.
Clinton has the (vicarious) "experience" and intellectual and policy wherewithal to remind everyone that, with the economy in such rough shape, McCain and Palin have "exactly zero" expertise in economic policy. (OK, she lost a little economic credibility with her "I don't need no stinkin' experts" take on the gas tax.)
She can expose the Republican economic plan, which, as far as I can tell, amounts to "drill here, drill now," and further wartime tax cuts funded by reducing earmarks like the ones Palin got for Wasilla. She can present the economic issues as Bill Clinton did, and show that the Democrats have a practical, nuts-and-bolts economic plan that'll genuinely benefit those "hardworking Americans," as well as the rest of us lazy bums.

Obama, Hillary, and a united party have to fight as it the life of the Party depends on victory, because it does. If the Republicans can win THIS year, it would be like winning in '32, which would have meant no victory for Democrats EVER. Blow Palin out of the barracuda-infested water, Hillary!

Hey MSNBC has gone beyond trying to compare Sarah to Hillary they are saying she is the republican Obama.
I would love to hear Hillary say in Governor Palin we find more of the same Bush politics of lies and abuse of power.
The republicans not only cut programs to help the poor and americans in need, they now choose to demean the work of good american's who do service as community organizers all across this country. She could talk about famous community organizers.
I agree with Governor Palin when she says that women should not 'whine' in the face of media scrutiny but instead should prove themselves.
Senator Obama and Joe Biden are my good friends. They are honest men who will put the american people first.
Sarah Palin you are no (insert famous community organizer's name here), you are no Hillary Clinton, and you are definitely not an honest, wise leader like my friend, Barack Obama
