Flashback: McCain Called Obama "Attractive"
The McCain campaign's new ad -- its latest exercise in adver-sleazing -- accuses the Obama forces of having "dismissed" Sarah Palin as "good looking."
But as usual, the attack is bogus and hypocritical. Here's McCain himself praising Obama's looks on David Letterman's show in March:
Letterman: Here's what we REALLY want, is presidential campaign gossip and dirt and backstabbin'. And the Democrats now are in a position where they could come in and really make hay and all of a sudden, you have a likable young newcomer, Barack Obama ...McCain: He's a very attractive young man.
Letterman: You have Hillary Clinton. (laughter)
McCain: A very attractive young WOMAN. (laughter)
The spirit of McCain's description of Obama here is identical to the one the McCain campaign is pretending to be outraged about -- Joe Biden's reference back in August to Palin as "good-looking."
Oh, and McCain also "dismissed" Hillary as attractive, to boot!

On Letterman or on the stump?
Jeez

So now it matters where the candidate says things, not the context in which they were said? I get it.

Are you the same guy who goes by "FrameCop" on Political Wire? The one who says that only John Edwards could win and that it was OK that Edwards cheated on his wife because she was in remisssion at the time? You sound exactly like that retard.

SNL does skits. When McCain hosted, nobody really thought he was a stalker like he played.
Letterman, Leno, the View, Oprah is a forum for the candidates to talk about themselves and their issues in a more relaxed setting. They have been and will continue to be held responsible for everything they say there.

We already know that McCain is lying and distoring in his ads. What next? Is Obama going to keep whining about it or take the fight to McCain? The McCain camp has proved they don't care about the truth, especially since there is no penalty for it. In fact, their lies are being rewarded with higher poll numbers.

McCain made a point of saying both of them are young. I would make the point that McCain is old, very old.

That is why I like the 1982 ad. He looks old, very old, and dated, out of touch. It is excellent imagery.

Well whoopdy-freakin'-doo, the McCain camp is being hypocritical again.
Pretty much anything these people say can be debunked, called out as a lie or contrasted with their own earlier comments....John Stewart has made a living doing this lately. But I am getting a feeling we are preaching to the choir, and most 'Muricans don't give a crap.

Yep, we're doomed.
Rove did it again. After the interview, I was convinced. I'm with y'all, Amurcans are so fucking stupid they'll eat this up.
I guess it's a waste to continue this conversation - it's hopeless.
We're DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!
that Rove, he's a genius.

Greg or anyone---are any of these daily released ads on the air? Is there proof these are running or they are just a simple effort to distract all the media and the blogs into a conversation that has nothing to do with this election? Also---maybe if there is no proof these ads are not running we should simply stop viewing them. we are rewarding them and giving them what they want.

This is good: This is being proactive, not reactive.
Per Politico:
Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) plans to release 10 years of his tax returns on Friday morning, pressuring his Republican counterpart, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to do the same, Politico has learned.
The move is part of a fresh aggressiveness from the Obama campaign, which wants to discredit the new posture by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) as the candidate of real change.
Disclosure, or transparency, is a big way for a candidate to make that case that during a campaign.
News reports from Alaska have said that Palin collected per-diem travel payments even when she was at home, and the Obama-Biden campaign wants reporters to see if she paid taxes on it.
McCain has disclosed little about his family finances. He files separately from his wife, Cindy, and has put out only his 2006 and 2007 returns. The campaign released her two-page tax for 2006, but not complete returns.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with being complimented? This is one of the dumber things I've seen McLame try to score points off of - especially since the state of Alaska likes to joke about it's "hot" governor -
But reality has no place in a Repug election campaign.

It is strange. You learn something new everyday. I guess calling someone attractive is dismissing them. 2 + 2 = 5.

Another case of projection, I suspect. Republicans frequently recruit former beauty queens and such when they're looking for female candidates (since it's a cynical way to get more votes.) Since they know they have candidates who are picked for attractiveness at the expense of ability or expertise, they assume that if you compliment their appearance, you must be insulting their competence. (Or at least they think voters will buy it.)

Rasmussen says McCain had a big polling night on 9/11 so look for McCain to gain in the polls the next couple days. He picked up 3 points today in the Rasmussen 3-day tracker.
Every Obama attack on Sarah gives McCain a few thousand more votes.

So why did he bounce? If you can show me one attack that Obama has said about Sarah, i'll show you a bridge to nowhere that im selling.

Again I really want someone, anyone, to answer WHERE are these ads running? Are they running in all battleground states? How big was the buy? Have people actually seen these ads? Or are they in constant rotation thanks to the blogs and the media giving McCain a free ride every frakking day? Anyone have the data?
The tax move is good. But of course---the doomsday people simply want Obama to be McCain and Rove. And since he wont be they will continue to yap every day about how weak Obama is. Get it together already and do something instead of pretending to be campaign and message strategists. Phonebank or canvass.

Tena--I do what I can. I just cannot stand the fact that this site and others play these ads and we do not even KNOW if they are playing. That is all. You are one of the people who actually tells people to get it together and stop freaking out and I love that you do that. But most people are just complaining all the time.
