Cindy McCain's $300,000 Outfit -- Elitist?
Vanity Fair tallied up the cost of Cindy McCain's outfit on her night at the GOP convention:
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000-$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100
Vanity Fair knows about these things, so we trust 'em. Of course, when it comes to measuring elitism, what's a $300,000 outfit compared to ... whatever it is that's supposed to be elitist about the Obamas?
And besides, POW POW POW.

Hey, Runaway Horses, for 5 1/2 years McCain couldn't see his then wife in her fashions because his then wife was Carol, probably dressing from the PX misses department.
Cindy was probably still in her princess of the rodeo barrel racing costume, and I bet it sure was purty.

The shoes alone probably cost more in the neighborhood of between $800 and $1200.
If they are Christian Louboutin or Jimmy Choo - those shoes cost well over $1000.
If they were Chanel shoes - $2000.
September 4, 2008 11:42 AM | Reply | Permalink
Christian Louboutins have red soles, so we can rule that out. Although Republican red would be a nice touch.

I didn't see the soles -
I have no idea who made the shoes - I just know what they cost these days. I can't afford them. If I get shoes like that it's after they've marked down 4 times. I bought some at Christmas marked down 4 times - Christian Louboutin - and they were still more than I should have paid - $400.
I do that once a decade. The rest of the time if I want couture I buy used. That's all I can afford and I can't even afford used have the time.
Only the really stupid rich can dress like that these days.

I hear you that it is important to vent every once in a while. However, when our fun is based on shaky evidence, I become concerned that a serious claim against McCain, Palin, et al, will be dismissed as "just the usual carping within the liberal blogosphere."
That being said, here are some subjects over which I think we can legitimately vent and have fun:
- McCain's multiple houses;
- the campaign's liberal POW sprinkling;
Apologies that I am wet blanketing some of you.

Oh, please. It's not as though the $300,000 outfit is the issue on which the election should turn (even though John McCain says this election "is not about the issues). But it's totally fair game to point out that the "candidate of the people" owns how many? ummm ... seven? homes, and his wife wears outfits that cost more than the homes of those "small-town Americans" his VP is courting. And the Obamas are elitist?

Cindy McCain's $300,000 outfit vs. Obama's AMERICAN UNION-MADE SUIT:

"When Barack Obama picked out what to wear to accept the Democratic nomination in Denver last week, he found Des Plaines suited him best.
Obama wore a dark blue single-breasted suit, made in Des Plaines by Unite Here union workers at the Hart Schaffner plant on Touhy Avenue.
Union spokesman Joe Costigan told the Journal that 500 union workers are employed at the Des Plaines textile plant and are all extremely proud to be part of this historical event.
"They are proud of the fact that they had a small piece of history on the day Barack Obama accepted the presidential nomination," said Costigan."

Look - in my opinion, the worst thing ANYONE can do is try to anticipate what the other side will say about what you say.
That's what leads to paralysis of a campaign and losing.
Just say the truth - and to hell with a reaction.
Seriously.

Sorry, Republicans, it actually does matter that she was wearing a 300,000 outfit. This election is about who is going to help out normal folks who can't make ends meet. The McCains have never been normal folks, and they have no conception of not making ends meet.
[Also, POW, POW, POW.]

laughable!!! I couldn't believe this shit when I read it. He has had SEVERAL YEARS to assist in catching Osama and nothing has changed. Yet, this is the same 72 year old man that claims he knows how to win wars. The same 72 year old man that says he supported the war and "the surge is working" Straight bullshit!!
Please, I beg of you that are leaning or undecided in voting for Obama...TO vote Obama/Biden 08. Can't expect to do the same bullshit for another 4 years and expect different results.

What's with that mustard outfit? Is she trying to comment ironically on the fact that her husband "can't cut the mustard anymore"? Is she trying to be Vampirella de la Moutarde??? The best you can say about it is that the chemise or top looks pretty much exactly like a Poiret outfit circa 1914.
And what's with the bangs and the long hunk of twisty spit-curl hanging down on one side? She looks like she's a porn actress for Vivid Video, done up and sluttified by the make-up artists in preparation for her next anal adventure.

Cindy Hensley McCain's father was a wealthy man when he was married with one daughter.
According to the AP: "Hensley was still married to his first wife when he met Marguerite Smith, who would become his second wife and Cindy McCain’s mother, NPR said. Hensley divorced his first wife and married Smith in 1945."
Cindy McCain refuses to acknowledge this sister, to whom their father willed $10,000 and tuition for her children to go to college. Cindy was left millions and millions.
Interesting, isn't it, that Cindy then marries a man who leaves his wife for her, the younger, blonder, thinner and - don't forget - richer version. Good for his political career. If that isn't a fine example of family values and service to country, I don't know what is.

You should bump the number up to $500,000 - $600,000. No one mentioned the diamond NAVY / USMC broach she was wearing last night. Take a look. You could feed an African nation if you sold it.

The median price for a home in the U.S. is $247,800.
In short, what Cindy McCain wears costs over $60,000 more than what most homeowners live in.

How much does she spend on Botox, make up artists, hair stylists - This could easily add $$$.
And then there is her Lexus with the vanity plates "MS Beer". NY Times did a "little" piece on her, on the front page a few weeks ago - but it was on a Saturday:

I can't wait for Keith Olbermann and others to get on this next week - Maybe Friday even - And Stewart and Colbert.
I wonder how much money the Obama campaign and DNC are raising just this week - I would think they would get quite a nice bounce in fund-raising just as a result of the utter idiocy of the rep convention.
