Big Union To Blitz Battlegrounds With 200,000 Anti-McCain Flyers During Convention Tomorrow Night
The AFL-CIO is readying a major anti-McCain blitz timed to McCain's big convention night tomorrow, unleashing 10,000 volunteers that will deliver fliers hitting McCain to some 200,000 households in five battleground states during the convention's final festivities.
Here's a look at the flyer, which hasn't been released yet and boasts a heavy emphasis on kitchen-table and trade issues (click on the image to enlarge):
The flyer seeks to directly counter-program McCain's message tomorrow, which (aside from POW-POW-POWing) will seek to paint him as a reformer with a career of independence from the GOP and a history of bucking George W. Bush.
To that end, it hits McCain on a triumvirate of economic issues: Health care, NAFTA, and Social Security. It emphasizes McCain's 26 years in Washington, the multitude of lobbyists working on or raising cash for his campaign, and the likelihood that McCain will continue Bush's economic policies.
The flyer will be delivered to households in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota (the site of the GOP convention), AFL-CIO spokesperson Steve Smith confirms. Volunteers will start hitting union households with the flier in the late afternoon tomorrow and continue into the night.
Late Update: The volunteers will actually be dropping the fliers in 24 states, with a special emphasis on the five battlegrounds listed above.

A conspiracy to commit riot if ever there was one.

Hi wallace, there you are again.
Nope, I'm not interested in your link, but I am interested in a little help here. I am confused about a few things and want to come over to your side. Can you explain some things for me.
1. What has mcbush done to warrant the maverick label? I just don't see it.
2. What facts warrant either palin or mcbush to be labeled a reformer? What have they done in the past to warrant that label as well?
Thanks in advance.

Really, I thought that you were smarter than that. I guess not though based on your posts the last couple of days. Ok I'll play, if I can get an answer to my questions, which I doubt. Here you go.
1. What has McCain, the heir apparent for the third bush term, done to warrant the maverick label? I just don't see it.
2. What facts warrant either palin or McCain, the heir apparent for the third bush term, being labeled a reformer? What have they done in the past to warrant that label as well?
Thanks, in advance. Convice us.

It's going to take an army. The ugliness hasn't even warmed up yet - they'll unleash it right after the convention ends.

Palin speaks tonight. If she kills it and Obama looks weak on O'Reilly all bets are off.
McCain's speech is only relevant if Palin fails to deliver the goods.

Just got off the phone with my brother in NJ. He just played golf with some customers, pocketbook Republicans. They are FREAKED that McCain picked Palin. Angry. Can't imagine what he was thinking, and they're afraid he's blown it.
They still want him to win, but maybe they'll begin to question his judgment and take a second look at Barack.
Hopefully this is going on in all the non-Bible Belt parts of the country.

I wouldn't put it past a lot of the Bible Belt to have the same reaction, but like the mason jar in the pantry with the whiskey in it? They keep it quiet.

That's kind of what I'm feeling too. If politics is a sport, then the morale factor's going to come into play big time. It's like you're a player in the NBA and they just hired a elementary school coach as assistant.
(Ok, maybe my analogy is a bit off, but really, what is the average Republican's morale like? I'm getting the feeling that the average Democrat is feeling proud and almost confident about now.)

They should dump them at the convention itself, so that the right-wing media might ask some of these bozo teddy roosevelt republicans some questions about the fliers. Hello, I hope they dump a bunch in minnesota.

Small point of correction: the AFL-CIO is not a "big union" -- it's a federation of 56 unions.
That said, this is a good piece, getting out the facts about McSame's anti-worker record.

The open mic from Todd/Murphy/Noonan is perhaps the most devastating thing I have heard yet.
McCain has lost the press, the key press, the press he needs to get elected.
I hear a door creaking shut forever on the McCain campaign.
"I talked to Kay Baily Hutchenson and she's realy bummed. This was a bullshit decision." OUCH!
And we now have Master Obama keeping his enemies closer and venturing directly into the arena when the lions are at their hungriest.
We call that balls as big a church bells.
Pax,
M.

It is a heavy blow to this nomination because they are not alone, and not by a little. Roger Simon on MSNBC is phrasing it now as how McCain recovers from this awful decision. The speech is gaining less importance by the hour.
What speech can she give tonight to undo this train wreck?
Only the announcement she intends to care for her family instead will do. This is her exit door, and I think she knows it very well.

Don't Slam SFC Wallace
Follow his link; it shows that McCain will tax employer paid health benefits!
Even those retired will suddenly see a 1099 or W2 for their health benefits!
McCain has said that his tax plan will be revenue neutral or revenue positive ...which means he will collect the same or increase taxes.
So whenever he gives a break someone will pay.
McCain said he will get rid of the AMT (mainly to those making over 75K per year wtih passive income).
Who will make up the difference?
He said he supports making all income subject to tax including all of Social Security and Veterans disability benefits like he receives....
Now this isn't in his "tax program" - he doesn't really have one - he just spouts goals he never gives a plan.
I've never heard him say he would raise any corporate tax - so where will the billions he has promised to insurance come from?
Russell Long "Don't tax you. Don't tax me. Tax the man behind the tree!"
Obama may be a little low on his estimated costs for programs but McCain --- he is just looney when it comes to promises and taxes.
