A Night At The Congressional Races
Here's tonight's rundown on the Congressional races: The Dems have had a pretty good day, scoring key endorsements and getting some good poll data, though it wasn't all bad news for the GOP.
GOP Senate Committee Out-Raises Dems, Still Trails In Cash
The NRSC got a small piece of good news today, announcing that they raised $5.2 million in August and beat the DSCC's $4.36 million. However, the Dems still lead in cash on hand with $33.67 million to the NRSC's $26.8 million, and are spending heavily in the key races.
Bloomberg Endorses Dem Candidate For Key GOP-Held House Seat
The Congressional campaign of New York City Councillor Mike McMahon, the Dem nominee for the open House seat of retiring Rep. Vito Fossella (R), has announced that they've received the endorsement of Mayor Mike Bloomberg. The endorsement from Bloomberg, who was elected twice as a Republican and has since changed his registration to independent, is a further sign that the Dems are on track to win this seat.
Poll: Right-Winger Musgrave Trailing
A new Grove Insight (D) poll, commissioned by Emily's List, shows Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) trailing Dem opponent by a 47%-38% margin. Musgrave is a leading champion of the Christian right, and represents a district that has been in GOP hands for decades -- so a Dem win here would be a very big deal.
Shays' Opponent Says He's Dodging Debates
Jim Himes, the Dem candidate against Rep. Christopher Shays (R-CT) is accusing Shays of dodging invitations to debate. Shays' campaign said they expect to hold as many as nine debates next month -- but the Westport News points out that no debates have actually been scheduled yet.
Arnold Skips Pricey Fundraiser For GOP Senator
Donors to Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) who paid $1,000 and up to attend a fundraiser today featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger were out of luck. The Oregonian reports that Schwarzenegger couldn't make it to the event because of state budget negotiations, and attendees had to settle for a via-satellite appearance.
Coleman Ad: Outrage Isn't Leadership
Norm Coleman has this new ad up, responding to an Al Franken ad that asked why Coleman isn't angry at the state the country is in:
"There's a difference between outrange and being out of control," Coleman says. "People who are out of control can't get things done."
McConnell's New Ad: McCain Supports Me
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) has this new ad out, tying himself to John McCain:
The ad is a response to a recent ad by Dem opponent Bruce Lunsford, in which Lunsford used McCain's past attacks on McConnell as a wedge in this red state. Meanwhile, a new Research 2000 poll gives McConnell a 50%-37% lead, a pretty safe position six weeks out from Election Day.
Dem Candidate's Ad: I'll Line Bird Cages With Opponent's Attacks
Here's a funny ad from Rep. Tom Udall (D-NM), who is running ahead in the polls for the New Mexico Senate race, a prime Dem pick-up opportunity. In the ad, Udall depicts his opponents as a parrot for Big Oil:
"But we did find a good use for Steve Pearce's negative ads," says Udall.

Someone in the media should ask John McCain if he approves of all the pork barrel spending that Mitch McConnell brags about in his ad.
