Webb: "Demographics Of Virginia Are Microcosm Of The Country"

TPM's managing editor, David Kurtz, will be bringing us live interviews of key players from the floor of the convention, and in his first, he gets Virginia Senator Jim Webb to talk in some detail about one of the key subplots of the campaign: Obama's problems with Appalachian voters.

Webb makes some interesting points, observing that the changing demographics of Virginia are a "microcosm" of the demographic shifts going on nationwide, a trend that may favor Obama...

Webb also predicted that the "southside" of Virginia, where the manufacturing sector has taken a hard hit, could decide who wins the state, vowed to campaign aggressively for Obama among Appalachian voters, and predicted that several Republican areas in the region were on the verge of tilting Democratic.

We'll be bringing you plenty more interviews and video footage straight from the floor of the convention right here.

Vid quality is terrible (for me anyways)

huh, working for me. others? how's quality of vid?

Sounds and seems fine. Low resolution, but very much acceptable.

Yeah, video is good. No complaints.

The vid works, but the visual quality is low (eg now sharp resolution), still watchable.

As a side note, Chris Matthews is on fire tonight. I think someone at MSNBC is feeding him crazy pills.

How so? Is it in a way that helps Obama. With this MSM I'll take whatever good news I can get.

Well he keeps calling PUMA person he had on earlier insane (which is good I suppose). Another winning moment was he noted that KO's last name would be good for running for high office if Germany had won the war.

So it isn't really directed positively or negatively towards a candidate, its just Chris being Chris albeit slightly more than usual. I think he's just all hyped up because of the event.

Maybe too much caffeine? He does seem a little more wild tonight than normal. I loved it when he called the PUMA woman "Wacko", though.

Knowing that Webb will be out there stumping for Obama will go a long way. Even talking demographics, he comes across as "real," that allusive quality for many politicans when it comes with dealing with red and purple regions of this country.

Pelosi is a poor speaker.

You're being kind. She absolutely sucked.

Kaine was on CNN recently and he was fired up about turning Virginia blue. He really means it.
