The Tire-Gauge Dust-Up And The Politics Of Mockery
The whole tire gauge dust-up is useful because it sheds light on the different species of mockery the two campaigns are directing at each other -- the realm of mockery being one where the GOP has enjoyed a distinct advantage in the last two presidential elections.
The GOP, of course, is mocking Obama as a "celebrity" and is lampooning his recent assertion that keeping your tires adequately inflated can save energy as well or better than offshore drilling. Today Obama himself sought to strike a mocking tone in response:
"So I told them something simple," Obama said. "I said, 'You know what? You can inflate your tires to the proper levels and that if everybody in America inflated their tires to the proper level, we would actually probably save more oil than all the oil we'd get from John McCain drilling right below his feet there, or wherever he was going to drill.'"..."So now the Republicans are going around -- this is the kind of thing they do. I don't understand it! They're going around, they're sending like little tire gauges, making fun of this idea as if this is 'Barack Obama's energy plan.'
"Now two points, one, they know they're lying about what my energy plan is, but the other thing is they're making fun of a step that every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by 3 to 4 percent. It's like these guys take pride in being ignorant."
For the moment Obama is striking a lighter tone at times than the GOP is -- something that represents a change from the last election. The GOP's mockery of Obama this time around -- the celeb ad, the tire-gauge stunt -- has a kind of grating, adolescent, forced quality to it. Last time, the GOP's mockery of John Kerry had a kind of effortless quality that just isn't there right now.
This may simply reflect the fact that Obama is a tougher figure to mock than Kerry was. The GOP's main experiment in mocking Obama's personal qualities (the "celeb" ad) just didn't cut to the core of any perceived Obama character flaw as successfully the wind-surfing ad and other similar stuff did with Kerry.
Another factor: Pundits and opinion-makers, for a host of reasons, just don't seem to be as willing, or as able, to join in the GOP mockery of Obama as they were four years ago against Kerry. Sure, there's plenty of the usual media clowning, but it tends to come across as flailing. The punches just aren't really landing.
Who knows how much this will matter in the long run, but it's certainly a striking difference from four years ago.

My train is gone, Allsburg, I'm here for the laughs.
But the bigger point that I think Greg slightly misrepresents is that it's not exactly mockery, at least in the "Celeb".
They are trying to re-define Obama for everyone else, as a clueless ditz, who has no idea of what's he's talking about once the telepromter is out of sight. "Legally Blond", if you could find a way to say that about Obama. So every little piece of the puzzle falls into play.
And I'm sorry but his response is not effective at all. He's on defense, dives for the details, explanations, tries to appeal to reason and experts, and ends up accusing them of lying.
That's just not going to work. As long as he's on defense, he will keep giving them food for more. Obama needs to focus on McCain, not Obama.
August 5, 2008 6:14 PM | Reply | Permalink
interesting points. but I think you can look at two things at once: the effort at mockery and the effort to redefine. they are two sides of the same coin.
last time, the efforts to use mockery to redefine kerry had a kind of effortless quality that just doesn't seem like it's there with the celeb ad.
I'm not arguing that the GOP isn't *also* trying to redefine obama in addition to mocking him, just that the mockery side is lacking in the sort of ease that it had last time -- which could, incidentally, make the efforts to redefine less effective. but on that we'll have to wait and see.
August 5, 2008 6:22 PM | Reply | Permalink
To me, mockery is when you are dealing with an opponent 1-on-1 and want to provoke a reaction.
Tire gauge is a 3-D version of Celeb, it's aimed at everyone else, not Obama. It's the continuation of the exactly same storyline - vain airhead.
But I'm happy to give you back mockery to avoid an epic battle of semantics!
August 5, 2008 6:27 PM | Reply | Permalink
For the "airhead" caricature to stick, there has to be some element of truth to it. Somehow with Obama, "airhead" just doesn't pass muster. That's why the tactic isn't working and will backfire on McCain. It shows just how unserious a candidate he is.
McCain's "high" last week was just like a crackhead's first hit: Potent at first, but quickly delivering diminishing returns, turning said crackhead into a mere shell.
That you can't see how exposed McCain leaves himself with this latest desperate grasp is pretty amusing. "Celebrity" has no staying power. Obama just showed us that today. He is no Kerry/Gore/Dukakis.
Finally, a Democrat is calling the GOP on their juvenile tactics, which have been ripe for ridicule for years. Well, the fruit has been finally been plucked from the vine, "my friend."

Lalo, the tire gauge thing is just a dumb stunt, as anyone who's got half a brain knows: keeping your tires inflated is a good way to maximize your mileage. It is a good point because it gives everyone something practical to do, some small way of feeling like we have some control in the midst of this global market of giant corporations and distant dictators controlling the spigot.
Keep laughin'. But you're laughing alone.
Willfully ignorant, indeed.

What a weak and ineffective response that is. He just doesn't seem to get what is needed. I'll rewrite his response for him.
He should have said....
He must do something like this because McCain figured out that in focus groups drilling for oil sounds real and inflating tires doesn't. It even sounds wussy to me, and I KNOW it helps. We're in a street fight here, and you can't tell people that the things they believe are stupid, or the party that echoes the stupid things they believe is stupid. THAT really is stupid... and Obama just did it.
Note above, I stated the truth about inflating tires, but in a way that enables a fool to think that it ISN'T important... when I'm in fact saying that it is.
Get it right soon Obama or lose this election to the yahoos of the right.

Well put Mike2! Very well put indeed!
Wht you are offering is certainly more effective and pwoerful than what Obama actually said and strikes the right tone of derision toward the Republicans that we ought to be striking on a daily basis. It puts the other side in their place: the dunce chair, and does so in a way that speaks to everyone in a very understandable manner as opposed to the typical Democratic silk stocking, bries and chablis sorts of responses that only draw more derision and mockery. Sometimes I think the national Democratic Party is filled with nothing but guys who got their asses endlessly towel smacked in high school locker rooms and never recovered or snapped their towels back at the other guys. Instead, they just cowered and hoped the gym teacher would walk by and rescue them.
I must say, however, Obama's remarks on this point are at least a bit more lively than the flaccid retorts we have seen in recent weeks. There may be hope (pardon the pun)for Obama yet!

Oh, and Vint Cerf, who certainly can lay claim to the title "Father of the Internet", certainly gives Gore a lot of credit for his legislative and policy work on the issue.

Mr. Fogu2,
Your logic implies that you deliberately twist everything around to deride Obama.
He's not telling Americans that they are ignorant, he's pointing out an obvious way to save money (something a lot of Americans already know) and he's not scolding Americans by any means, but showing that the McCain energy plan isn't any more helpful than just keeping your tires properly inflated. Drilling offshore LOOKS big, but in the end it won't help any more than a nationawide car tuneup.
He's calling the GOP ignorant because that is what they are doing, they KNOW that it's true that tire pressure effects MPG . . . but they are essentially implying "keeping your tires properly inflated is meaningless."

He was responding to a question in a town hall about how a regular person can help reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Obama gave the guy a straightforward, simple answer, no different from a friend on the street offering some advice.

Nobody's telling anybody what to do (interesting that you perceive it that way, though. It's simply advice.
(1) At least one American would like some advice, because he *asked* Obama a question about what individuals could do to help get us out of our energy mess, and Obama (*gasp*) gave him a truthful, practical answer.
(2) The exact same advice has been offered up on a website created by the administration of . . . wait for it . . . regular, un-elitist guy. . . . . . "world's biggest polluter" . . . direct from Washington . . . GEORGE W. BUSH!
(3) The exact same advice was just given in a joint appearance (YouTube it) by REPUBLICANS Arnold Schwarzenegger (who would surely be John "Tire Gauge" McCain's running mate if the Constitution allowed it) and Charlie Crist, reputed to be on John "Sturgis Stud" McCain's VP short list.

The man who got into Yale with a C average because he came from a famous family? The man who thought he knew more about Iraq than the CIA or UN weapons inspectors?

One point about the ridicule--the real critical objective of Republican ridicule is to get it injected into Leno's monologue, prefereably as a running gag. Hitting the Leno-Letterman-O'Brien trifecta is, of course, the dream, but Leno is the cake, the others are just icing.
They want it in the MSM, but the MSM is just the vector. If the MSM doesn't pick it up and run with it, the late night guys won't touch it, because if its not in MSM no one will know what they're joking about. But once you get the Leno and the other guys making fun of you every night, your campaign is toast.
August 5, 2008 6:14 PM | Reply | Permalink
Which makes this response all the more effective, because Obama has just offered Mr Leno an elegant set up. Indeed, Obama's remarks sounded rather a lot like a Leno monologue for a while there. It would be little work for Leno's writers to refashion Obama's jab for use on the show.

I think it has to do with a couple of things, besides the obvious point that Obama knows how to react to them.
First, Republicans have been able to get away with calorie-free campaigning for so long, their skill at doing it has atrophied. Hell, I thought the whole Kerry wind surfing thing in '04 was pretty juvenile, even though it worked better than I thought it would.
But the guys running GOP campaigns (especially McCain's) have become so insular and accustomed to crappy negative ads working, they seem to think that whatever makes them laugh will make a good negative ad. I doubt they even run their stuff by focus groups any more. That's why we're getting sheer tripe like the Britney ad, the Moses ad and the tire gauge gimmick.
And even though I keep hearing that Rove is involved in McCain's campaign, I really don't see it. either he's letting the acolytes run with these horrible ads, or if he is running things, he's completely lost whatever touch he ever had.
And the other reason this crap is less effective is that people are finally sick of it. I think that voters realize that this election is too important to be fucking around with tire gauges and dopey Britney Spears jokes.

This has actually been a problem for dems for the last 20 years or so. They need to mock right back. Pick an easy point, distort mcbush's position, and just mock. Come on, the dems need to start defining mcbush. There is a ton of ammo, start using it. It's the KISS principle. Dems get too hung up on minutia and lengthy explanations. It's like the oil drilling gig. The republicans are lying about it and they know it, but it sings to uninformed voters, what 80% of the electorate. Just start playing their game. Distort reality to fit the dem agenda and to mock mcbush.

I think the celebrity punch landed because they went back to it too often so it must have polled well.
I also expect this to be used against him. I wonder what code word they'll use this time as "presumptuous" wont fit. Maybe "arrogant" for the tone he took. how did the Clinton Camp respond to Obama's "Annie Oakley" bit? Because that will likely be McCain's response.
It's not the message, but the tone. Certain good ol' boys are not going to like his tone. Of course McCain is probably fuming himself.

No - that hasn't been the real problem. The real problem has been two-fold: the southern strategy and declining voter turnout - because historically, voter turnout always benefits the Democrats.
We have every opportunity to finally put both of those problems to rest - at least during this election cycle.

His base is already awake and it's not big enough to save him. Most people see McCain's mocking for what it is--childish and unbecoming of someone who's trying to get into the White House. What Obama did is exactly what people were itching to see him do: deliver a smackdown to an obnoxious, ignorant jerk.
There's something very gratifying about it. If Gore or Kerry had done the same thing in the same way Obama did, either of them could have done much better in their elections.

One thing of this statement that Obama can take as a recurrent theme is related to efficiency and common sense in public policy. It's no secret that the GOP constantly dismiss logic and rationality in order to impose its agenda (Climate change is a perfect example). Obama can use this to impulse his reforms of government, who is broken to the core.
I love the tone and the fact that he's meant what he said. Or course some people is going to be offended, but I think that many republicans will share the same idea that Obama said, so I expect some anger, but not every republican will be offended. Obama prove today that he's in control of the agenda again and that he can attack in his own terms and ways.
For me, I can't wait the response of Limbaugh or Hannity or O'Reilly the other extreme conservative talkheads. This guys are going to squeal more than a truck full of pigs.

Obama is playing it smart, I think: he's defining himself as the serious candidate, and McCain as a joker. That's actually a classic Karl Rove move: attack your opponent's perceived strength (in this case McCain's supposed greater experience). Every chance he gets, he paints McCain as frivolous.
Obama's not on the defensive. He's planting an idea that he's going to hammer home over and over again: he's presidential timber, the other guy isn't.

Great post, Greg.
The use of the word ignorance is great. His composure and calm in hitting back also works well. McCain looks mean and juvenile.
Another problem for the GOP is that their "redefining" is all over the place. Celebrity doesn't really fit with elitist, or radical Black Panther, or closet muslim, etc. etc.
Finally, there's a boy who cried wolf problem here. The numerous attempts to label Obama discredit any further attempts. People have heard so many scattershot attacks, many so over the top, and many of them then discarded, that they tune out.
I think "terrorist fistjabs" was the key moment when attempts to smear Obama reached comic proportions.

I had a conversation with Mr. Republican today. He's 60ish, Vietnam vet, MBA, father of 5, small "c" conservative, never been a Democrat, never will be a Democrat.
He's not so much disgusted with as worried by the Democrats. He can't understand why we aren't focusing on the scandalous inequity in the distribution of wealth. He's helped his 5 kids through college. He gets it. He gets that it's not him that's getting a fair share no matter how hard he's worked his entire life.
He can't understand why Democrats aren't fighting against the abuse of power. I mean, the guy is conservative, he's doesn't want his mail read or his laptop searched.
And he doesn't believe McCain's ads will work. He's recognizes the strategy and he's all but horrified at the lack of serious response to our economic problems.
This is a guy who wants change. This is a guy who wants to put a "D" on his secret ballot this year.
This is a guy who doesn't need Evan Bayh to reassure him on foreign policy or Jay Rockefeller to fight for the FISA bill. This is a guy who wants an opposition party as a check and a balance. He just can't understand why there isn't one.

I think he's thinking that the Republicans have abandoned conservatism and become extremists but he can't figure out why Democrats are enabling them instead of fighting them. The Democrats enabled the war and FISA and the reckless spending. He doesn't see that as "moderate". He doesn't see that as "centrist". He just sees it as complicit.

Bluebell,
It's sad but true that our Democratic Party and it's leadership is not terribly concerend about the things your Mr. Republican is concerned with. Nor are they terribly concerned with the things that average Americans deeply care about over and above the things you mentioned because they are so out of touch. It's just a simple fact that our Democratic Party is unfortunately captive to the very same corporate interests as the Republican Party albeit not to the same degree and are certainly better than the Republicans. Yet they are still disturvingly out of touch with the concerns of our people. Our leaders do not actually comprehend how palpable the inequity has become becuase they don't have much in common with the common people and it shows in their failureto grasp the urgency of the issues you bring up and more. Look at how tone deaf the Democratic Party was in 06 to the issues of the war and the deep level of corruption the Republicans have fostered. One of our greatest tasks is to do all we can to force the elected officials of the Democratic Party to actually be full fledged Democrats and start fighting on behalf of theinterests of the common people (something they have not done much of for decades now). We must push them, cajole them and fight them if necessary to ge them to start being responsive to the people instead of just the rich people.

Conservation is for sissies, apparently. Anything in our energy policy that doesn't male big bucks for the oil companies is, based on McCain's talking points, clearly un-American.
One exception currently is Boone Pickens. He says we can't drill our way out of it. He funded Swift Boaters 4 years ago. He is not some lefty. He's investing big bucks on wind energy and probably expects to make billions. And you know what? I hope he does. We will never transform our energy system unless some people take risks on it in exchange for the chance to make billions.
As a rule, I don't agree with Pickens' politics. But I hope he gets rich betting on wind power.

Yeah, there's going to be a screeching blowback, BUT - and as has already been said here - this had to happen, and it must KEEP happening at strategic moments until November. Obama has to fight back; he knows this, and he knows the trickiness of these waters. Americans will not put someone in the White House who doesn't fight back, period. Or, they won't give him the numbers he needs to overcome Repugs field tested vote suppression and stealing. I guarantee you, from personal experience down here in Texas, that if Mr. Conservative is going to flip to 'D' this election Obama is going to have to show some real balls. This is a great example of exactly that.
August 5, 2008 9:40 PM | Reply | Permalink
Another thing. The Repug machine has for forty years crafted a winning strategy out of, amongst other things, playing to forceful ignorance. This country has been enthusiastically invited, coerced even, to celebrate simplemindedness and stupidity with an openly vicious sneer at anything and everything which even hinted at the possible, at the potential in everyone for transcendence. Think of Obama's speech to those kids where he told them to forget about playing pro ball; this is of a piece with his larger message of accessing, building, and building on the character of Americans. At key points in this country's history certain folks have taken the bull by the horns and wrestled with America's tendency to wallow in ignorance; this is definitely one of those times, and I think Senator Obama has declared himself one of those folks. Once again, he's showing how clearly he sees that this is NOT just another election.

This probably got buried upthread, so in response to chickenman, who said, "Is half of America idiots?
If your answer is yes then you play right into my point about Obama's condescending elitism."
Uh, yes, half of Americans ARE idiots, and that has nothing to do with "condescending elitism" but rather is a basic mathematical principle called "the average". Half of whatever feature you are assessing, whether it be age, income, or yes, intelligence will fall above "the average", and half will fall below "the average".
As such it's an indisputable truth that half of Americans are of below average intelligence.
Now, you may argue that being below average intelligence doesn't = being an idiot, and that's probably true...as in all else, there are gradations of idiocy. But, it doesn't change the fact that half of Americans are smarter than the other half.
That's not elitism, that's math. But you might want to contact the RNC and suggest that next they try mocking fancy-pants math...math is soooo stupid, what does it know? Obama's idea of a budget is full of NUMBERS and stuff!!! If that doesn't prove he's a condescending elitist, I don't know what does!

I find myself having to say this, much against my will: Obama talks about a new politics, but this whole series of episodes looks ooooooh so familiar doesn't it? What's new about GOP doing their usual 90-I.Q. bullying schtick and the Dem, who would LIKE to run an honorable campaign, playing defense and explaining and clinging to the high road while the even more feckless press says "Both sides do it" and run the bullying b.s. rightwing ads over and over and over and over for free.
How about a "new politics" where it's the Dem taking the offense and ruthlessly defining the other guy in the public mind for once? Obama's answers so far have been pretty decent as far as that goes, but so what? In politics, if you're defending you're losing. And here we are on defense as usual. What's new about that?

Should have used a more recent quote. It's not like they are hard to find. McCain is limiting his scope to the last four years, and Obama comes with a quote from 2003?

"McCain: “And could I mention that Senator Obama a couple of days ago said that we ought to all inflate our tires, and I don’t disagree with that. The American Automobile Association strongly recommends it.”"
"OOPS, HE DID IT AGAIN!"
OBAMA: "I fear NO man when I've got the truth on my side"!!!!

Elitism.
Elitism? I don't know. When I think of an elitist, I picture a guy who makes fun of something that's just common knowledge to most NASCAR fans and motorheads, and is too out of touch to realize it. Or maybe a guy who owns seven homes and is married to a beer heiress.
Obama's has an air of condescending superiority that suggest that he knows better than the average American and he will tell us how we should be living in his regime.
I suppose it seems that way to a guy who's being crushed under the weight of his own intense feelings of inferiority. That must be awful going through life thinking that everyone is talking down to you.

You may inform yourself of the reality here.
You should also check out this insitefull peice of analysis, "Races can be close without being all that fluid, and the fact that McCain rarely drops more than five points behind Obama may be precisely the thing that keeps his campaign from taking the kind of gambles - like, say, a one-term pledge - that he needs to get to fifty percent, or to 270."

I think the chicken crossed the wrong road. I sincerely wonder who he supported since he hasn't admitted to supporting anyone yet. Unless I missed that of course.
My guess is Ron Paul but if someone else knows please inform me so I can prepare for the comments which are sure to come.
Finally love the Obama response about the inflated tires. I've been debating an idiot on facebook on this matter and hearing the news about it helping more than Offshore Drilling is simply rich.

FYI chickenhead,
Conservative pundits have been deriding the 'Celebrity' ad that tries to equate him with being an airhead. So it's obviously not working. I just read Buchanan's column yesterday where he calls the ad being 'too much of a stretch' to be believable.
Incidentally, he also called Obama's foreign trip an unequivocal success.

I never thought anyone could be more ignorant than than George W Bush. I could tell the first time I heard him speak that he had absolutely no curiosity at all. And with everything in life given to him, why would he ever trouble himself to think about anything?
And McCain has turned into George Bush. He's working to get the support for the ignorant block... as if he had anything to worry about with that group. But I guess owning 7 or 8 houses makes him realize that he has to act ignorant in order for any of them to be able to relate to him.

The telling point is that outside Obaland the focus is on Hussein's continuing series of flip flops on energy policy.
Can a tax holiday be far behind?
When can we expect to see the Lawn Jockey in Chief in a sweater advising us all to build fires on our living room floors?
And that's why Hussein is such an asshole for his "inflate tires" crusade not to mention his petulent attempt at snark.
This is the jerk who wants to lead? Where, to the looney bin?
Ah yes, Hussein will establish the Federal Thermostat Patrol to go around forcing everyone to set the temp at 74. And his hectoring b Shaniqua will finally have an America she can believe in.
But the best is that the Obabots really believe that Hussein's new found reverence for pressure gauges will do for energy policy and not be ridiculed for the petty irrelevance that it is.
Way past time to get their tongues out of the ObaAsshole.

Jesus, "Hussein", really? Clumsily uttering his name to scare people is so 2007. I mean, what other things do you use that happen to be played out? BetaMax? 8 track player?
"When can we expect to see the Lawn Jockey in Chief in a sweater advising us all to build fires on our living room floors?"
That's all you cowards have isn't it? Racism. Keeping it classy I see.
"And that's why Hussein is such an asshole for his "inflate tires" crusade not to mention his petulent attempt at snark."
It seems that he's an "asshole" whenever he successfully beats back GOP Bullshit - pull your fucking skirt up already.

I like how the site attempts often to be somewhat rational, even going after Dems that stray as well (like Rep. William Jefferson's hiding of money in the freezer)
Yeah, cause Kos never did anything like that.
Or went after Democrats who take stupid positions.
Nope. Never.
Next straw man, please.

I think SpaceCat nailed it at the top (and it's not just because of the cat) with this:
"McCain's "high" last week was just like a crackhead's first hit: Potent at first, but quickly delivering diminishing returns, turning said crackhead into a mere shell."
Expect more "highs" but even more"lows" as the inane comments fail to register. And the goofy laugh and creepy grin. Keep it comin!
I think the tire gauge thing won't work either. I mean, the whole idea is to paint an elitist picture, like "Kerry the windsurfing Frenchman."
Making Obama look like a mechanic (or at least a tire tech) can only help.

I think this is there perfect line of attack - "They take pride in being ignorant" = them, the stupid McCain campaign, not intelligent people like us. If you say that Obama is elitist...well then you're attacking everyone who is not ignorant....people like us, not them.

I think THAT is one of the strongest arguments: the McCain campaign is all over the place:
-- Obama's a Harvard elitist looking down on the "common people" (gun owners and all) and popular with west coast elites
-- Now suddenly he's an empty headed Paris Hilton celebrity. That's tough for a Harvard elitist.
-- Now suddenly he knows about practical stuff like tires and that's such an "non abstract, non strategic and non comprehensive" energy plan. Again very tough to say about someone you have just been naming a "Harvard elitist" all the time.
So what is he ? From a few ads, we can now see at least, three, conflicting images of Obama. That's confusing messaging to me.

Their strategy reeks very much of the strategy internet startups use: rapid prototyping or "throw spaghetti against the wall and see what sticks" method.
Whatever you want to say about Bush against McCain in 2000 or against Gore and Kerry, or before with Dukakis.. hell even President Ford: he was a very athletic man, but that image of him falling off the stairs when he got off the plane.. really hurt him. In all these cases, there's a message that is repeated over and over and over..
I think why the anti-Obama ads don't stick for very long (yet).. is exactly that: it's not a consistent anti-Obama message. It's gimmicky. So I do not agree with previous posters saying it's a coherent strategy to undercut Obama's brand. It's far from coherent.

Maybe the Dems can label the tire pressure gauges as sex toys in disguise and claim that McCain is ruining the morals of the nation. That ought to sway the stupid and willfully ignorant (sorry, 'low information') voter.

Meanwhile the price of crude is dropping without the aid of offshore drilling.
Must be the tire pressure.

John McCain just got bitch slapped! If you don't believe me, just look the next time the media does a close up of his face and you will see Barack's hand print on that pleathery face of his.

Their plan is working to perfection. Talk about anything except the issues and the failures of the Republican Party. Because this is their only chance of winning. Don't look over here - look over there. They are getting wholesale support from the corporate media, as usual, and this makes it a very successful strategy for the McCain campaign. If this distraction was duly noted by the media, it would make it less effective. It makes it very difficult for the Obama campaign to talk about the issues that are important to the American people. Primaily the disastrous Bush and Republican policies of the last eight years. Now, can you guess which shell the bean is under ??

LOL, rather than take it as snark that was intended to be, EMBRACE and say THANKS for the gauges...remind them that indeed is a VERY GOOD THING, to inflate tires correctly, to help conserve the fuel supply of the nation and glad to have them so endorse !!!
Hey, IF allow them to BELITTLE the practical and easy to do NOW solutions that WILL help to conserve the fuel supply, then is counter productive and NOT in the greater common good of all in this nation ...SO chuckly and realize THEY are playing knuckleheads, say thanks for the gauge and ask if THEY are using their properly to do THEIR part ...hey experts have said it WOULD save approx. 3.3% of the fuel...thats a sizeable amount in crunch times and should be embraced as a NOW solution that any and all SHOULD embrace , it would be the PATRIOTIC thing to do and assist the greater common good of ALL !!!
