Report: Obama Picks Biden

The Associated Press and CNN are both reporting that Joe Biden is Barack Obama's running mate, capping off a week of frenzied speculation that centered on him in the final stretch.

The AP cites unnamed sources, while CNN says they got the news from two Democratic sources.

And so much for those text messages we all signed up for, promising that we'd be the first to know. I still haven't gotten mine.

Late Update: The Obama campaign's email announcing the decision is right here. Though Obama's supporters were promised with great fanfare that they'd hear about the decision first, the email went out to supporters many hours after the big news orgs broke the news of the decision.

Late Late Update: Our take on the Biden pick is right here.

CHANGE. MY. ASS. Thanks for nothing, Hopey.

What you were expecting someone from Earth First? Obama's change is about approaching the issues we face as a country in an intelligent, thoughtful, and non-partisan (to the extent it can be) way. Having someone who is respected in the beltway and knows how to get things done is going to help actually bring real solutions to our country.

Blah, blah, blah, blah.

You're just pissed because you know your ass is grass.

At least he's in character.

You have such a way with word.

I am very sorry that your candidate with cartoonishly terrible campaign management skills and $20 million in campaign debt was not chosen to participate in the she frequently and harshly attacked (in ways that often backfired) during the past half year.

What a shame that we have to settle for the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a frequent critic of the Iraq War with a son in the National Guard, a man who appeals to older white people and has proven himself capable of effectively mocking and attacking Republicans. So sad.

* "...participate in the _campaign_ she frequently and harshly attacked..."

Somethin' tells me she'll be OK financially

fogu is a douche.

Amen, brother.

Good one! Have you earned enough points for the McCain golf sweater, yet?

How about somebody who didn't vote for the war? How about somebody who didn't vote for the banking industry-authored bankruptcy bill? Biden is a hack and you know it.

Yeah! Vote for McCain! You'll show them! You'll show them all!!!

No, don't vote for McCain, jackass. Demand better of the Democratic Party than the same old Republican-lite bullshit. Otherwise the Party deserves to go the way of the Whigs.

I'm voting F and U.

Why do I get the impression that you have all the charm, intelligence and good looks of your avatar?

Because you're stupid?

Good one. Do your parents know that you're still up and consorting with grownups on the Internet?

That hurts my feelings. You are so mean.

Sorry, but this election is too important to go into a hissy fit over the VP. Grow a pair, and grow up.

Sorry, but the VP choice is the most important one the nominee can make -- "a heartbeat away" and all that. And I've heard that tired old "this election is too important to..." line every election since I've been eligible to vote, and it's always been used to stifle anyone impudent enough to challenge the DLC/Repug-lite party line. You're just a parrot, and not a particularly intelligent or amusing one at that.

Yes you are so independent and original. Help McCain get into office. That will further your political goals. Smart thinking, I am in awe.

Rinse. Repeat.

exactly...

I was talking to supa, not the douche johnbpt.

Blow me.

HEY EVERYBODY!!!

LOOK AT ME!!!

LOOK AT ME!!!

SHUT the fuck up, asshole.

Wait, this guy is serious? I thought his first post was a joke about not getting the text messages first.

There's people out there that think like this?!

Yeah, they're called Obamites.

I love you!

I love that picture. It is perfect!!!

The hypocracy here is astounding!

The Obamabots, during the primary, ridiculed Clinton's Iraq vote, essentially saying it disqualified her from public service. The trashed her as a 'triangulating' 'narcissist' who would do and say anything to get elected. Obama was the one speaking truth and stood for something. She was just a tired old hag who loved being in Washington. And those 18 million voters of hers were just figments of our crazy minds.

NOW? What do we have now? Just a cult of apologists, that's what we have. Biden's inside the Beltway experience is now 'experience' and not the mark of the Beast. I guess if you have a dick you can commit such high crimes as voting for illegal war and acting as Bush's pawn. Only if you have a dick, that is.

Only if you have a dick can you

-say you are against Nafta and then later not be so against it.
-be against offshore drilling then be for it.
-be against telecom immunity then be fore it.

What's next, huh? What does Barack Obama stand for? Anything?

Hillary's vote was a problem because she wouldn't renounce it and say it was a mistake. Biden's already done that. You lose.

She said if she had to do it over again she wouldn't vote for authorization.

You people demanded some kind of tear-flowing spectacle of an apology.

Admit it. You don't really care about Iraq! You and Obama only want to play politics.

You lose. Get your consolation prize by calling 1-800-EAT-SHIT.

Also, you didn't answer my question.

What does Obama stand for?

Where to begin. Do you have a specific issue (aside from being unable to go to his website) that you wish to be addressed?

"What does Obama stand for?"

The betterment of America as a whole, not just for a small group of people. A distinct change in direction from the disastrous policies that have lead to the shrinking of the middle class and our involvement in a politically unnecessary war that has tarnished the image and influence of our country.

Basically, Obama's saying that we need to move forward and change the direction of this country in a positive way, while McCain is saying that he'll be a better version of Bush.

The choice is yours.

Were you at that awesome PUMA meeting with 16 people at a crappy hotel?

It wasn't 16 people. It was 18 million.

I'm not a member of PUMA. I'd vote for a homeless drunk of the Dems nominated such a person. I'd imagine such a person would be more likely than Obama to actually hold convictions, but doesn't matter.

Go ahead. Continue to act like Clinton's supporters never existed. You Obamabots were always good at sticking your heads in the sand.

Just a little math for ya.

*25% of Clinton supporters say they won't support Obama.

*25% of 18 million is 4.5 million.

*John Kerry lost to Bush by about 4 million votes.

Dismiss all you want. You guys will say the phrase "Swift Boat" until you are blue in the face when we lose. But everyone can look back on this moment and only blame The Oh Wise One for his narcissism, ego, inability to see past his reflection in the mirror to realize there is a world beyond his great looks and fabulous speaking skills.

People just don't likey the Obambi.

I hope and pray he manages to pull it off. Im not going to be placing any bets tho.

What the heck is wrong with you people?
I've been a Republican most of my adult life and I've never seen such cannibalization.

We lost John McCain back in 2000, yet you folks are so caught up in this ridiculous back and forth, we hate ourselves B.S. that you're willing to eat your own head and hearts for a third Bush term.

Is this what our country deserves? More hatred and invective from within? Our troops, our children, our parents, and our planet are counting on us to rise above and figure out a way to progress.

If you so-called democrats are the best hope of a better day ahead, then i pray for my children and my country.

Obama-Biden. It's done. Get over it, and win for a change.

Thanks for the sanity check. For reals.

The Republican's right!

Really, I suspect that we're getting a lot of trolls trying to stick a wedge between various groups of Democrats. Someone's hoping to keep some potential Obama voters home, and I bet it's not a real Democrat/liberal/progressive/feminist.

Oh, go join (rejoin?) LGF already. It's been real, troll. See you in November.

Why don't you go have another one.

Why don't you go join another party?

Eactly

Considering who is currently in the White House, and with McCain offering more of the same, anyone selected by Barack Obama would certainly keep the change message alive.

An Obama/Biden administration holds the possibility of really getting things done in Washington. And how exciting and refreshing it will be to have an administration that treats us all as adults. That's change we can believe in.

Thank you! I wish I could recommend comments, because that's so spot-on! I wish everyone could think like you about this.

Couldn't say it better.

By that logic it doesn't matter who the Democratic party selects as its presidential nominee.

How true - that's why Biden won't counteract Obama's message.

But then it was Mark Penn who advised Hillary to run as an incumbent, making her nomination seem inevitable.

I guess we can now say her strategy was a failure, no?

Short of a revolution (which isn't gonna happen), how do you expect someone to change Washington? Biden is a good foil for McCain, by all accounts a good guy, and should be an ideal congress-critter wrangler.

His vote for the war in 2002 will need to be addressed fairly quickly, but otherwise, I think he's a good match.

take it down a notch

I signed up two different ways, no message.....

Ditto. It saddens me.

I am telling you guys the text will come at 3 am. ;-)

And you all thought you were so...special.

Bwahahaha. Suckers.

You're just pissed because you know your ass is grass.

I thought trolls were supposed to be scary?

You are...kinda.

Aw. Is the wittle troll scared? Go home to mommy. I'm sure she'll protect you. =)

Hahahaha. You're 20 fucking years old. Hahahaha. You actually still live in your parents basement. You've never even voted before. Perfect avatar, a joker. Hahahaha.

You got the first part right. Not too keen on the assumptions, though. Nice try. =)

Question: does continuous text-laughing make you feel better about yourself? I'm just curious because you seem to be doing a LOT of it tonight. Obama picking Biden couldn't be getting to you THAT much.

I don't know about anyone else, but what gets to me most is the fact that the Democratic Party has managed to committ suicide one more time with a Gawd-awful candidate.

Ignorance is bliss, as they say...until you are bankrupt and no longer with constitutional rights.

But, small concerns, living in your parents basement.
