Report: Obama Picks Biden
The Associated Press and CNN are both reporting that Joe Biden is Barack Obama's running mate, capping off a week of frenzied speculation that centered on him in the final stretch.
The AP cites unnamed sources, while CNN says they got the news from two Democratic sources.
And so much for those text messages we all signed up for, promising that we'd be the first to know. I still haven't gotten mine.
Late Update: The Obama campaign's email announcing the decision is right here. Though Obama's supporters were promised with great fanfare that they'd hear about the decision first, the email went out to supporters many hours after the big news orgs broke the news of the decision.
Late Late Update: Our take on the Biden pick is right here.

What you were expecting someone from Earth First? Obama's change is about approaching the issues we face as a country in an intelligent, thoughtful, and non-partisan (to the extent it can be) way. Having someone who is respected in the beltway and knows how to get things done is going to help actually bring real solutions to our country.

I am very sorry that your candidate with cartoonishly terrible campaign management skills and $20 million in campaign debt was not chosen to participate in the she frequently and harshly attacked (in ways that often backfired) during the past half year.
What a shame that we have to settle for the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a frequent critic of the Iraq War with a son in the National Guard, a man who appeals to older white people and has proven himself capable of effectively mocking and attacking Republicans. So sad.

I love that picture. It is perfect!!!
The hypocracy here is astounding!
The Obamabots, during the primary, ridiculed Clinton's Iraq vote, essentially saying it disqualified her from public service. The trashed her as a 'triangulating' 'narcissist' who would do and say anything to get elected. Obama was the one speaking truth and stood for something. She was just a tired old hag who loved being in Washington. And those 18 million voters of hers were just figments of our crazy minds.
NOW? What do we have now? Just a cult of apologists, that's what we have. Biden's inside the Beltway experience is now 'experience' and not the mark of the Beast. I guess if you have a dick you can commit such high crimes as voting for illegal war and acting as Bush's pawn. Only if you have a dick, that is.
Only if you have a dick can you
-say you are against Nafta and then later not be so against it.
-be against offshore drilling then be for it.
-be against telecom immunity then be fore it.
What's next, huh? What does Barack Obama stand for? Anything?

August 23, 2008 3:49 AM | Reply | Permalink
"What does Obama stand for?"
The betterment of America as a whole, not just for a small group of people. A distinct change in direction from the disastrous policies that have lead to the shrinking of the middle class and our involvement in a politically unnecessary war that has tarnished the image and influence of our country.
Basically, Obama's saying that we need to move forward and change the direction of this country in a positive way, while McCain is saying that he'll be a better version of Bush.
The choice is yours.

I'm not a member of PUMA. I'd vote for a homeless drunk of the Dems nominated such a person. I'd imagine such a person would be more likely than Obama to actually hold convictions, but doesn't matter.
Go ahead. Continue to act like Clinton's supporters never existed. You Obamabots were always good at sticking your heads in the sand.
Just a little math for ya.
*25% of Clinton supporters say they won't support Obama.
*25% of 18 million is 4.5 million.
*John Kerry lost to Bush by about 4 million votes.
Dismiss all you want. You guys will say the phrase "Swift Boat" until you are blue in the face when we lose. But everyone can look back on this moment and only blame The Oh Wise One for his narcissism, ego, inability to see past his reflection in the mirror to realize there is a world beyond his great looks and fabulous speaking skills.
People just don't likey the Obambi.
I hope and pray he manages to pull it off. Im not going to be placing any bets tho.

Is this what our country deserves? More hatred and invective from within? Our troops, our children, our parents, and our planet are counting on us to rise above and figure out a way to progress.
If you so-called democrats are the best hope of a better day ahead, then i pray for my children and my country.

How true - that's why Biden won't counteract Obama's message.

Short of a revolution (which isn't gonna happen), how do you expect someone to change Washington? Biden is a good foil for McCain, by all accounts a good guy, and should be an ideal congress-critter wrangler.

So pleased you provided a reference link to support your imbecilic claim.
My 81-year-old mother, who holds multiple degrees and follows politics as closely as any non-politician could possibly do, is thrilled with Obama’s selection of Biden. In her words, "the best choice Obama could have made."
It’s clear that you would disapprove of anyone Obama selected, even if it were Thomas Jefferson or George Washington, so why don’t you just head over to Taylor Marsh’s site or TalkLeft where you can bask in cathartic whining in perpetuity.

Kaneblues' parents were considering making substantial changes in their long-standing, non-Democratic voting record. Nowhere does he/she mention not taking Obama seriously.
There is a substantial difference between discerning voters – something that you clearly do not have the intellectual capacity to engage in, much less understand – and not taking a candidate seriously. It’s called critical thinking, ever heard of it?
By the way, try brushing up on your grammar as well. It should be “In other words,…”

McCain camp is scared. Of course, they have Biden's "Obama isn't experienced enough" in their response, but this kind of stuff has little shelf life. It is the conventions and debates that will linger in the minds of the voters.

I don't consider it an exciting pick but I do consider it to be a good one. This whole thing got so hyped up that I had myself convinced it would be someone HUGE like maybe Gore.

That being said, the Secret Service being dispatched to Biden's house (which was under surveillance by CNN all day) pretty much was the tipping point. The two sources, whoever they are, only confirmed what CNN was seeing with its cameras.

Biden dropped out of the 2008 race for the Democratic presidential nomination after a poor finish in the Iowa caucuses, but not before he talked dismissively of joining someone else's ticket.
"I am not running for vice president," he said in a Fox interview. "I would not accept it if anyone offered it to me. The fact of the matter is I'd rather stay as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee than be vice president."
