Poll: Obama Holding Narrow Lead In Key Swing State Of Colorado
A new survey of Colorado by Public Policy Polling (D) shows Barack Obama's lead holding steady in this Western swing state, a historically Republican area that Barack Obama is making a major play for thanks to its own Democratic shift in recent years.
The numbers: Obama 48%, McCain 44%, with a margin of error of ±3.2%. This is essentially unchanged from the 47%-43% lead that Obama had in PPP's last poll from a month ago. The internals show the two candidates tied at 47% each among male voters, and Obama taking the lead thanks to a 49%-42% edge with women.
Also, the poll gives Dem candidate Mark Udall a 47%-41% lead over Republican Bob Schaffer in this state's open Senate race, in which the two candidates are competing to succeed retiring GOPer Wayne Allard.
If John McCain can't hold on to Colorado, which has only voted Dem once in the last 40 years, the road suddenly looks steep for him: Unless he can pick up a Kerry state to balance it out, he'd need to sweep Florida, Ohio and Virginia, plus take either Iowa or New Mexico -- and Obama has been well ahead in recent polls for those last two.

Doesn't Colorado know that Obama is just a shallow celebrity/secret spy for Russia ?

I thought he was the Muslim anti-Christ predicted in Revelations? Or is he the anti-Christ predicted in "Left Behind"? Wait...wait! Is he Keyser Soze?

wait, he's an empty suit with no ideas of his own. no, he's an over-educated elitist who doesn't understand real people. no, he's a raging ideologue who wants to soak the rich. in an er, empty suit or something.

Uh oh. If that's with white women, he's really gonna get his comeuppance now.

Hmmm. Seems I jumped the gun. The white-women thing came up in a TPM EC post a few minutes after I made my comment. I just hafta have more discipline if I wanna stay on-message.

And his middle name is HUSSEIN. He's so presumptuous that he spells it in all caps like our previous Muslim Presidents that appear on our currency. And if he mentions that, he's playing the race card because no one else would've figured it out on their own.

All of you are wrong. Despite being raised on food stamps, Barack Obama is a Harvard educated snob who spends his free time thinking that he's better than you. On top of that, he's a crypto-Muslim who embraces Garvey-ism and the teachings of Elijah Muhammad. I won't even go into his penchant for snacking on white babies..

I don't know if McCain could pull NM. Our Udall is crushing crazyman Pierce in the senate race, and instead of the presidential candidate "bouncing" the local race, there's a chance of the opposite here. Pierce really is far-right batty, and his ads aren't winning any favors.

Humor aside, I often think self-depreciating sarcasm is a time-consuming distraction us. No one's a genius for simply identifying GOP talking points. It takes work to articulate what YOU believe in an effective and persuasive manner. Practice that and knock some doors with it.

this poll was done before the news about john edwards. this will hurt obama bad in colorado where they care about such nostalgic notions like marital fidelity. what is obama doing?
August 11, 2008 3:34 PM | Reply | Permalink
So voters who are upset about the Edwards marital infidelity are going to vote for McCain who dumped his first crippled wife in favor of a $100M heiress who was 18 years younger than him? And getting that second marriage license while still legally married to his first wife is the extra McCain touch in this case.
There's only one person who wants the Edwards mistress scandal to disappear faster than Edwards himself, and that person is John "'til death do us part, or else a hot bleached blond" McCain.

Why do you think news about Edwards would hurt Obama in Colorado?? Obama has never had an affair or a divorce. McCain dumped his first wife and slept with his current wife while married to his first wife. See story: John McCain Dumped His First Wife

Who do you think made John Edwards develop a craving for young, blond white women? It was Barack Obama, of course!

With all due respect to PPP, I'd like to see a non-partisan firm poll Colorado. Generally, partisan statewide presidential require something like a four point adjustment. If that's the case here, we have a dead heat between McCain and Obama.

I never thought that the Obama campaign should take the imitative to exploit the less than honorable way McCain ended his first marriage with his crippled wife.
However, if the GOP or their surrogates in the media continue to try to smear Obama with Edwards' personal failings than it is really up to TPM, Keith Olbermann and others on the Left to force the MSM to cover this blatant HYPOCRISY.

obama should apologise for the way he mistreats white women. his tacit support of john edwards is yet another example. after what he has done to hillary, it is too much. is he trying to lose?

obama clearly crossed a line with britney and paris. or else he wouldn't have been in the ad with them. it doesn't look good. and now with the edwards business it is just not good.

Every poll out of Colorado has shown Obama with the edge. But the MSM will dispute the polls by saying he's underperforming--a bunch of idiots is what the MSM are.

If you were expecting millions in campaign advertising revenues from the republicans running for office in 2008, would YOU want to tell them the truth?
Seriously, the MSM can't be forthcoming with the facts, it will only discourage the delusional R's from spending all that easy corporate PAC money.
Just thought of a great nickname for McCain...PACMAN!
