Plouffe On McCain Nice-Guy Ad: "We Wish More Of His Ads Took That Tone"
Obama campaign manager David Plouffe had a sharp response to McCain's nice-guy congratulatory ad:
"A very nice gesture," Plouffe said. "We wish more of his ads took that tone."
Actually, Plouffe could have said, "We wish more of his ads took that tone -- including today, the day McCain is saying is so historic."
After all, earlier today McCain released a Web ad using the words of fellow Dems during the primary to attack Obama. Separately, the Republican National Committee blasted out a bunch of press clips deriding Obama's speech platform as a "God-like setting" and an "Obama temple."
What happened? Wasn't today supposed to be special?

McCain's campaign: Two faced? Doublespeaked? Or just plain bi-polar?

The DoubleSpeak Express.
The funny thing is McCain is playing good cop-bad cop, but all by himself.
Reminds me of Kerry's quip that McCain should have a debate with himself!

I half expected it was a concession speech. LOL.
He might as well save all those millions and all that effort. As well as what's left of his reputation.

You're insulting all the bi-polars out there.

As a bipolar individual, I must protest. We don't want McCain in our (dis)order.
Agree on the two-faced and doublespeak assessments though.

I think today's events, events to follow in the next couple of hours will shrink, drown and decompose the back and forth.
Atleast this evening, no one gives a fuck about what McCain camp thinks. It's a day of Celebration for than one reason.

It is creepy. He looks like a smug jerk. I suspect that is intentional. They don't want him to look too sincere, just polite.

Looks like Tim Pawlenty will be the VP choice. Minnesota Governor, 47 years old, humble roots, one house and is an Evangelical. Ardent supporter of Bush, pro-life, anti-gay.

I don't have a iota of interest or I don't think it matters much who will be the GOP VP pick.
Is it just me?
As long as BO can make this election a referendum on Bush/McCain years-the co-joint twins are Bush/McCain, as long as that's the slogan, it doesn't matter who the sidekick is to the Bush's sidekick.

Maybe Bush/Cheney/McCain/Whocares '08?
August 28, 2008 6:59 PM | Reply | Permalink
I think Democrats have been too kind in tarring McCain as Bush '08. McCain is a maverick in that he thinks Bush didn't go far enough. Bigger tax cuts. More wars. After killing Social Security and Medicare, McCain will even tax employer health plans.
I'd love to see an ad against McCain explaining why he's no longer popular, and blaming it on his policies. Obama, own the fact that people love you! It's because your actions and your policies represent our goals.

There is a lot of "smoke" that Pawlenty is the pick. He cancelled all pre-booked media through the weekend.

I think Jonze got the Pawlenty idea from Huffpo. I don't trust Huffpo much, they make a mountain out of mole. It's a useful site to spur the base, but not reliable.
I still think its Mitts, because forget about camping in Denver that bastard wouldn't walk out of his own house for McCain without a benefit.

Well. I saw it coming. My opinion? The guy is a puppy. He is an unknown outside of Minnesota (and it doesn't mean for sure that he'll put MN in play). McCain choose him because he was pressured to do so. He wanted to a take a "risk" by picking Lieberman or Ridge, but the GOP base (starting with Rush) said no because of their pro-choice stand.
Obviously he didn't want to pick Romney, even if he was the most viable GOP ticket. He didn't trust him and Mitt really wanted the spot for his own agenda.
The guy is the usual boring WASP and the only thing that he brings to the ticket is his youth. His choice won't produce the same excitement that the Obama-Biden ticket. Maybe the uber-conservatives will take a breather.
The choice doesn't do any harm but it won't produce any fireworks. Biden will eat his liver with beans and a nice Chianti. Let's wait and see...

Of course this opinion will cancel itself out if the news breaks that is not Pawlenty. But I'm feeling that he will be the GOP VP.

Unfortunately, he's pretty clean, but he's an unknown veep for the guy who would be the oldest prez ever and he has presided over double digit increases in the cost of tuition at state universities and huge increase.
I think Pawlenty would really undercut their experience messaging. Does Pawlenty have the experience to be president? After all, McCain is really old so he must be prepared to step into those shoes any die, i mean day.

There's not much else Plouffe can say. McCain is trying to stay relevant tonight by being condescending. Eff you would be the best response, but I have a feeling that wouldn't go over so well.

This is a good test for the MSM. I am curious to see how many of the idiots grow ecstatic over how McCain escaped the evil masterminds who have been using.. I dunno, magic?.. to force McCain to act completely against his real true POW hero maverick character for the last 6 years to make this magnificent proclamation before their nefarious spells wrest control over him again.

The Obama campaign can easily flip this on McCain. They need to get an advert up quickly that juxtaposes McCain saying his campaign won't attack with the web ad. Nothing fancy. Freeze frame on McCain smiling. Followed by freeze frame from the attack ad. Followed a zoom on McCain's smile. Some text. A voice over.
This is a golden opportunity for any campaign to twist the knife into the credibility of its opponent.

Pawlenty just spiked on Intrade. Where is the info coming from.
Pawlenty is the only top VP candidate that keeps together the Bush coalition of the rich and the religious (of a certain sort).

It's Pawlenty. I'd put money on it at this point. Conservative media sources, both traditional and online have been selling him big-time the last couple hours. The choice has been made and the conservative information gatekeepers are rallying their peeps.

I think Pawlenty might be right on the money though I wish to god that it's Romney.

Say this: "It's nice to see John McCain and the Republicans getting behind Barack Obama and FOLLOWING OUR LEAD. George Bush has been folowing our ideas lately, and now John McCain has gotten in line as well."
BTW - OPTICS!! The Mile High Stadium optics are AMAZING. Not worrisome-looking at all like the MSM has been hyping... (bc they can't think of and research difficult stories to write...)
America's going to love this Democratic unity/strength.

They didn't mean you had to have actual experience in foreign policy. You just have to agree with them.
Obama says he has enough experience and the right judgment and backs it up by choosing someone with great experience and well-respected judgment.
McCain says he knows more than anyone else and has unimpeachable judgment backs it up by choosing someone with no experience (do we really count foreign trade missions) and no record of judgment in foreign policy. I apologize, he clearly has kept Minnesotans safe from Canadian invasion.
