McCain Campaign Officially Endorses Lieberman's Claim That Obama Hasn't "Put Country First"
Okay, this is significant -- the McCain campaign appears to be officially endorsing Joe Lieberman's claim earlier today that Barack Obama has not always "put the country first."
Below we linked to an item on The New York Times Caucus blog which reported the comments.
In them, Lieberman said that the choice in this election is "between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not."
Just moments ago, the McCain campaign emailed out the same Lieberman quote to its full press list -- putting its official stamp of approval on Lieberman's assertion.
This is effectively an abandonment of the campaign's quasi-official position, which used to be that the McCain camp saw questioning Obama's patriotism as off limits. Last month, senior McCain adviser Charlie Black said explicitly that "we don't want to talk about his patriotism and character. We concede that he's a patriot and person of good character."
That no longer appears to be operative. The full quote as emailed out by the McCain campaign after the jump.
"I think it's 84 days from now that the people of America are going to choose their next president. And it's a big choice, because we know these are tough times at home economically, and dangerous times in the world. And in my opinion, the choice could not be more clear; between one candidate, John McCain, who has experience and has been tested in war and tried in peace, and another candidate that has not. Between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put his country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate that has not. Between one candidate that's a talker and one candidate who's the leader America needs as our next president. You never know -- we never know what crisis will occur in the four years of his watch; we've just seen over the last few days, as the Russians invaded a sovereign nation, Georgia. And watch the response of this man, John McCain, to that crisis: right, strong, clear, principled. The kind of president we need in the White House over the next four years, to protect our country, our security, and our freedom ..."

Like we didn't know they were scumbags?? McCain's campaign is pitiful.

Country first?
Was John McCain putting his country first when he was one of 90 House members to oppose establishing a federal holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr.?
Was John McCain putting his country first when he was one of 28 Senators who voted to strip funding from the MLK commission?
Was John McCain putting his country first when in 1990 he opposed the bipartisan Civil Rights Act of 1990?
Was John McCain putting his country first when in 1993 he voted not to table the patent extension to the United Daughters of the Confederacy?
Was John McCain putting his country first when in 1993 he voted against the bipartisan landmark "Motor Voter" law?
Was John McCain putting his country first when in 1993 he voted against the bipartisan abortion clinic violence law?
Was John McCain putting his country first when he voted against the minimum wage increases in 1989 and 1996, which passed with 62 and 74 votes, respectively?
Was John McCain putting his country first when last year he voted to repeal effectively the minimum wage law?
Was John McCain putting his country first when he voted against extending unemployment benefits during the 1991 recession and the 2003 economic recovery?
Was John McCain putting his country first when in 1997 he co-sponsored a bill to abolish the Department of Energy?

Yes I believe he was putting the country first in opposing a federal holiday for MLK. Should we make it a federal holiday for everyone who gets killed? Or just those who are a minority? I can think of much greater men who don't have holidays.
Yes, Yes and Yes we need to stop funding for things that do not benefit the majority, after all this is a democracy.
At lease he was in government to be able to even vote in 1990, 1993 and 1996 unlike his opponent.
McCains wife has more experience to be president than Obama.
With Russia invading Georgian territory recognized boarders Obama did not even have enough guts to take a stand and speak against the aggressor. The whole purpose of the united nations is to keep larger countries from taking over smaller countries.
Is this an example of what he will do to protect us?

It's been well-documented all over the Internet today that the "aggressor" was Georgia. "Misha" thought he could just prance into S. Ossetia and take it over without consequences. There has even been speculation that they may have been encouraged to take that step because they thought we had their back, but I don't really know that to be a fact.
So, while John McCain was saber-rattling with nothing to back him up, Obama suggested diplomacy instead and - Guess what? - when France's Sarkozy went to Moscow today, DIPLOMACY was precisely what he used, and the violence ended.
August 12, 2008 10:52 PM | Reply | Permalink
Well documented? What the hell are you talking about. Russia crossed the boarders of Georgia trying to take back parts of Georgia that was lost at the fall of the Soviet Union! Georgia did not cross the boarders into Russia. If canada crossed into the boarders of Alaska and the United States fought back, would the US be considered the agressor? I think you better check your well documented facts once again. Also, Obamamma said for Georgia to back down when McCain said for Russia to stop invading and for everyone to stop! Then negotiate. Every member of NATO told Russia to stop. Once the fighting stopped then the assistance to negotiate was offered. I don't know where you are getting your information from.

Well sorry yababysdaddy, why all the nastiness just because someone gave you the facts. Georgia was shelling a break away area in Georgia filled with Russians in order to increase their legislative majority by ethnic cleansing. Those are the facts. Anyway, aside from all of that, it is obvious that GW sat blithely by in China and let it all happen. After all, he was just too busy with the Olympics to bestir himself and fight for out security till he had planned to fly home on his schedule. All this turmoil on the Bush watch just shows how hopelessly incompetent the guy is. He has turned our country into a paper tiger. He could not even run down and arrest a two-bit monster like Ben Laden in spite of his silly "Mission Accomplished" sign and his trumped up fly in. Now years later with the trumped up war in Iraq and billions spent in wars and war profiteering, we are not even back to where we started. And note, McCain supports this insanity.

Yes let us have a look at the McCain life experiences. Graduated from Naval Academy 10th from the bottom of his class, I believe, already with a record of discipline incidents and womanizing, then his PUBLIC life first as a Representive including the Keating 5 nasty scandal. Then more womanizing while in the military. Then off to fly in vietnam where he was shot down. Then the one bright spot in his life, his POW experience gave us all the hope that he could finally be responsible. But alas, he returned after his release from the POW camp only to dump his disabled wife for a rich lady. And speaking of the rich lady, he persists in humiliating her by calling her a C*** on microphone so all the world can hear. Then he offers her up as a contestant in a topless and often bottomless beauty contest. Then of course, there is his attendance record first as a
Representative and then as a Senator, his blab about no lobbyists yet his entire campaign staff was full of lobbyists. God protect our country from electing this guy you claim ts such a paragon of virtue. God help us if this guy ever becomes our president. His record is abysmal

Candy Cane:
Your support of racism and "experience," even the wrong kind, is exactly the type of blind loyalty Traitor Joe, Karl Rove and McCain count on.
Your comment: "McCains wife has more experience to be president than Obama" is the type of ignorance this country needs. What experience exactly were you referring to - lying about the existence of half-sister, overdosing on pills, helping to cover up her husband's affairs or denying his friendship with Charles Keating and his arm-twisting to assist Keating to bypass regulations?
And this is classic!
"With Russia invading Georgian territory recognized boarders Obama did not even have enough guts to take a stand and speak against the aggressor." So McCain's quick temper promising war was the right call? Or his about face calling for diplomacy two days later? Or were both right?
"Is this an example of what he will do to protect us?"
And John McCain protects us how? By keeping us bogged down in Iraq for 100 years?
"Scary"
Truer words were never spoken.

Actually all of the above charges more than prove that McCain is an outright racist. It may interest you to know that Arizona, a western state, had a very rare segregation history that was not rescinded until Brown vs Board of Education was decided by the Supreme Court. Although mandatory in some major cities such as Tucson, most of the Arizona segregation history resulted from a State law affirming Segregation.
Eventually Arizona law gave the school districts the option to integrate or to segregate. The Supreme Court Segregation decision, Brown v Board of Education clearly outlawed the practice of even voluntary use of Segregation. The "separate but equal" doctrine used to justify segregation no longer was legal. In fact, there never has been separate but equal schools in any state. The legal reduction of individual rights by Arizona history of segregation always affects all the races, the favored one as well as any minority group segregated out of the mainstream population. I think the treatment of Blacks, Hispanics and American Indians throughout Arizona's history has profoundly affected McCain and has led to his racist point of view.

Right and Lieberman has sold his soul to the Devil. He is so anti Middle Easterners unless they are conservative Jews. Lieberman is essentially a racist. A very sad thing since he, of all people, should know how it feels to have peo0ple relate to a person only based on the person's feelings of racial prejudice. It amazes me that Lieberman has fallen so far. He is a disgrace to the Jewish people, not my words but from many of my Jewish friends. Poor thing has become hate filled and he has sold his soul to the neocons. I guess it was his thinking to join the neocons even after they tried to shred his reputation when he was on the Democratic ticket. What a poor, pathetic, sad person.

Classy and thoughtful. Thanks for sharing.
As for Lieberman and McCain, we now know that they will attack a sitting U.S. Senator with a vicious smear. The question is, will the media blast them for it?
The other question is, if McCain rarely shows up to the Senate so that he can campaign and fundraise, how is that putting country first?

Absolutely agree that everyone should read the Tax Policy Center review of the candidates tax plans and health insurance plans.
ABSOLUTELY. How many would vote for McCain if they read it? How many would who were planning to vote for McCain would have their eyes opened?
The top recruiting tool for the Obama campaign is the Tax Policy Center report. People are blown away by how much bigger the Obama tax cuts are for the working poor (~$100,000 a year or less). McCain takes tax breaks away from those making less than $100,000 a year and gives that and more to those making over $3 million a year.
McCain busts the federal budget. He will have a budget deficit 2 to 3x larger than Obama's.
McCain spends $1.3 Trillion over 10 years on his health care plan and it insures 2 million more people at the end of 10 years than are insured now.
Obama spends $1.6 Trillion over 10 years and insures 33 million more people. Gee, which seems better.
Why does McCain's plan insure so few? Employer sponsored health care is reduced as the federal government gives money to people to buy health insurance. People who used to have health insurance plans through their employers, now buy it on their own with taxpayer dollars. That's why no NEW people who don't already have insurance will get insurance under McCain's plan.
McCain has been taken care of by the government his whole life. He's never owned a business or really even WORKED for one. He just doesn't understand the private sector.
August 12, 2008 7:17 PM | Reply | Permalink
Wrong! I don't know about you but I don't want to wait 6 months for an operation I need now just because everyone has the same health care. I worked hard my whole life and pay 1200 a month for health care. I don't think I should be treated equally as the guy who never worked a day in his life and lived off of the system paying no taxes for the same operation. I was never given anything in my life and don't expect to be given free health care. This is the only country in the world that the more you work the more you can accomplish no matter what race, sex, color or religion. Stop worring about what other people have and start worring about how you can earn more for yourself. Only the educated can be free!
I feel insulted that Obama is trying to pass himself off as a black man. His mother was white and his father was an arab! Its sad he would use such a thing to jsut get black votes. I am not voting for McCain! I am voting against a lier and a racist! If that means I have to pull a lever for McCain so be it.

You're a fucking fool.
You've never been given ANYTHING in your whole life?
Really?
How did you get to work? Public Roads.
How did your silly ass not get robbed and shot in the street? Law Enforcement.
How did you have a hospital to go to even get the medical treatment you paid '$1200 a month' for?
Public funds built that hospital.
I could go on and on for days. People who think they did it all themselves and everyone else who didn't do what they did sicken me. You wouldn't be shit if it wasn't for the shared public goods that all of our tax dollars paid for. You wouldn't have the roads, clean water, waste removal, electrical grid, ports, etc. if it wasn't for our national infrastructure. You benefited from the collective work done by millions of Americans who came before you and put our country in the position to be successful and created the many things your ignorant ass takes for granted.
Put you somewhere without all that and let me see you fend for yourself. If you can do that, maybe then you could take shit. Otherwise, just appreciate what you've been given and try not to continue making an ass out of yourself.

They claim one candidate's a talker and one's a leader, and demonstrate it by the crisis in Georgia, which McCain has responded to by... talking a lot.

Also, it irks me that you keep referring to Obama as an 'arab'.
First, it's demonstrably false. He is not.
Second, if he were, what would be wrong with it?
If you are black (as you claim) then you should be amongst the first to see and understand what would be wrong with looking down upon the man because of his ethnic heritage. Is an arab not human? What would make being arab such a bad thing in your eyes? Is it because you've been brainwashed to think of them as an enemy and you fear them? Does that mean you fear germans? british? They were all considered 'enemies' in this country at one time too. Or is it only those who are non-white that are to be feared? If you're going to throw out a slur, please do us the favor of explaining what is so bad about it in your view. For us enlightened folks, I see each ethnicity as just people so when you go 'he's an arab' to me it means 'he's a person' and I think: so? you're point is?

This has seriously become redundant, not the cheapshot by the McCain campaign and Liberman, but our reactions to it.
We know what kind of campaign McCain decided to run once he realized he couldn't win with honor, or on the merits. McCain has finally "found his voice", and its the same old, same old. It's nothing new, but everytime it happens, we all have the same reaction. Based on the headline, I bet we all could write a transcript for how the thread will go and who will say what before anyone even post a response.
"Obama needs to hit McSame hard", "This is disgusting...Rove/Bush playbook", "the campaign is too slow", "Obama needs to counterpunch", "Why isn't the campaign responding quicker" It's like a continuous loop.
Well no more for me. I refused to sit here whining about what the Obama campaign is doing wrong, or about how the McCain campaign are slimeballs. I already donate regularly to the campaign, but now I'm going to become more involved than that. I'm gonna volunteer, maybe do some canvassing, register voters, or just talk up Obama to my family, friends, coworkers and foes, whatever it takes. No more chicken-littling.
Time to get more progressive.

John McCain:
Too old to be president.
Has a bad temper.
Thinks war is the only solution to foreign policy challenges.
In the pocket of the moneyed interests.
Has corporate lobbyists running his campaign.
Campaign manager was an agent for a foreign country.
Not too bright.
Hasn't shown up for work in months, but faults others in Congress for taking vacation.
Thinks energy conservation is for sissies.
Stuck in the Viet Nam era. Will probably re-start that war.
Doesn't know much about the economy.
Sponsored legislation that enabled energy speculation, i.e., Enron and $4 gas.
Was against torture before he was for torture.
Has too much money to be able to relate to regular people.
Cheated on his first wife.
Married second wife for money.
Claims to be a regular guy.
Is guilty of most of the things he accuses the other guy of, only 1000x worse.
Has really been in Washington way too long.
For someone who has been in DC so long, he's had very few real accomplishments.
Would make more right wing appointments to the Supreme Court.
Supported Bush over 90% of the time and has all the same ideas that Bush had.
I know I've left something out....

I did not always believe the way I believe now. i grew up like most of the poor black men in my neighborhood using drugs and selling to pay for my habit. Six months behind bars in New Orleans was enough for me to realize there was something better out there. i did everything from cutting grass, framing houses, huffing shingles, installing windows and putting up siding on house for other people to realize I could do it for myself and make more money. Now I buy and flip houses and have mexicans and white people working for me. I am truly living the American dream and don't want to see it destroyed by someone claiming to have the heart of an American black man.
As Martin Luther King, I believe the most misquoted man in the United States once said, "Equal rights to all people". Well, I believed in his dream and i am living his dream and it sadens me to see people using Martin Luther King's great name as an excuse.
You say I am probably black as the daylight, I say you are probably some fat ugly woman with 5 kids from different daddy's collecting section 8 (paying to me by the way) food stamps and welfare.
This world world would be much better without the likes of users like you but then again who else would we have to raise the future criminals.

"What the hell has Condi Rice ever did for this country except lie?"
That's easy! She ignored George Tenet when he made a special trip downtown in July 2001 to warn of impending attacks ("the board is blinking red"), and she ignored her daily brief in August 2001 formally warning of spectacular impending attacks. Then she claimed, even though dozens of reports named WTC as at the top of the list of likely terrorist targets, that nobody could ever guess what they might attack so it couldn't be her or the Administration's fault. And when criticized, she bristled in testimony that it was somehow beyond any sense of decency to question her. See, that's a lot right there!

What would happen if a white person said these words using black folks?
Any discrimination is discrimination and will destroy our country.

LIEBERMAN - SCUM-SUCKING, BUT KOSHER, PIG
Joe Lieberman is an unmitigated liar and a scum-sucking (but kosher) pig.
And I say that as fondly as one can after having been his roommate and friend for 4 years at Yale. I truly liked the guy then. Just show's how wrong you can be .
Joe is basically a Likudist agent in the midst of the American government. He obviously cares more about Israel than he does his country of birth.
I don't say this lightly, but when Joe questions the patriotism of anybody who doesn't follow willy-nilly the ignorance of our Commander-in-Chief, George W. Bush, a person not known for his intelligence or foresight, I have to question his own intelligence (and, indeed, patriotism). I happen to think that Bush and Lieberman lied this country into a War on Iraq for no good reason -- no WMDs, no "imminent threat," no connection to al-Queda or 9/11. George W. Bush lied to America. Joseph Isadore Lieberman lied to America. THEY ARE BOTH LIARS. THEY ARE BOTH SCUM-SUCKING PIGS.
Does Joe Lieberman care more for Israel than he does the United States?
A legitimate question, I think, following his own words and actions.
My own ancestors were here before the Revolutionary War ("Mad Anthony" Wayne, one of them, fought under George Washington at Valley Forge). Incidentally, my parents and grandparents were born on farms in Ohio and were Republicans. Joe's ancestors came here after the pograms of Eastern Europe. I was the first in my family to go to college (and also probably the first to become "radicalized" there.)
That doesn't make Joe any more or any less an American than I am. But I do think he has been blinded by his pro-Israeli-Zionism. He sees himself as both a Jew and an American. Fine. I'm by birth a Christian and an American.
But, I am first an American. I believe in the Constitutional separation of church and state.
For instance, I don't believe that some homophobic Episcopalian bishop from Africa has the right to push his regressive, ignorant beliefs on the world-wide Anglican community, any more than I believe that the Zionist "settlers" have the right to take over Palestinian territories that have been in their families' possession for hundreds and even thousands of years.
Sorry, I'm not much in favor of either homophobic Christians or land-grubbing Zionists.

What are the Republicans thinking using Lieberdouche as a spokesperon for McSame? He's loathed equally by both parties. As is McCain...together they're a twofer.

Ah yes, just as I predicted yesterday dear ObaDroids the Lawn Jockey in Chief stuck his prick in the wind and now SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE! Hussein has adopted McCain's position and is promoting NATO membership for Georgia.
Once again Hussein has left all you little ObaAssLickers to run and catch up to his "evolving" position.
Let's see: in five days Hussein shuffled (and little ObaDroids faithfully followed) from "it is all the fault of McCain's staff/lobbyists" to "it's all Georgia's fault" to "bad bad Putin, but..." to "Georgia for NATO!".
Warrantless wire tapping.
Offshore drilling.
Illegal wars.
What will you do when "Oh he called me nigger!" Hussein is forced to admit that the surge "worked"?
How long will it then take for you ObaIdiots to adjust to that newest truth from ObaPravda?
Pathetic losers taking it up the ass from a wannabe Lawn Jockey...

This is the ordinary repug libel script, of course, routine character assassination used in the ordinary course to defame all comers:
"It causes us great pain to have to say this, but we must warn your for the good of the country that our opponent [fill in name here] is a coward and a traitor."

This is the stupidest fucking argument ever - how in the fucking goddamn hell does anyone produce evidence that they've "put the country first?"
And Somebody - ask McLame and Lieberman what the fuck they mean, EXACTLY, by "he didn't put the country first."
It's a fucking mouthful of meaningless crap.

Of COURSE it's meaningless crap. But, after spending much of the last 12 months being accused of "falling in love" with Obama, the "drive-by media" (Limbaugh's actually pretty funny name for "mainstream press") now feel compelled to prove to themselves that they, too, are "fair and balanced" . . . by NOT pointing out what a load of crap McNutty's entire campaign is. Hell, CBS and CNN will probably report tonight on the "McCain delegation" of numb-nuts on their way to Georgia with a straight face.
