GOPer Claims China Is On Verge Of Hijacking All The Oil Off Florida

Okay, here's yet another twist on the false Republican claim that China is drilling for oil off American shores: Tom McClintock, the GOP nominee for the open seat of scandal-plagued Republican John Doolittle, has now asserted that China is on the verge of draining off all the oil in the Gulf!

"Meanwhile, the vast oil fields off the coast of Florida that American law prevents Americans from developing are now being drained by the Chinese government drilling in Cuban waters," McClintock wrote in a column for the Auburn Journal, pointed out to us by the campaign of his Dem opponent Charlie Brown.

"And still Nancy Pelosi and her supporters in Congress continue to block the development of these vast American oil reserves."

Question: Given how long it takes to set up offshore rigs, isn't it already too late to prevent China from taking every last drop of the oil they aren't actually drilling for?

This is going to end with us carpet-bombing a square mile of ocean filled with invisible oil rigs.

I thought it was interesting, mel martinez (r-fla) was on the daily show last night and they were talking about cuba leasing out its drilling sites.

Martinez made the claim that Cuba doesn't have any oil there.

Im no geologist, but seeing as how cuba is what, 50 miles away from florida, wouldn't that mean there's no oil off the coast of florida either?

"Meanwhile, the vast oil fields off the coast of Florida that American law prevents Americans from developing..."

O that's what this is about - drilling off the coast of Florida.

LOL!

The Repugs just want that law repealed.

Good point, but with this profound analysis from a genius like McClintock, Grenada is now finally making sense to me. Stupid me...how could we have missed the opportunity to syphon off mass quantities of Venezuela's oil. We blew it! Up yours Hugo!

This just proves that some Members will believe anything a lobbyist holding a PAC donation check tells them.

I am finally persuaded that we must immediately embark upon a drilling campaign in the waters off Florida that is every bit as vigorous as China's.

Hear! Hear!

Are they suggesting that if America starts drilling off its own coast, then that oil won't go to China?

Exactly! The Chinese are using the oil to manufacture all that crap we buy at WalMart. We would just use the oil to storm around in our Hummers.

You don't mean those unnecessary plastic items we all love so much. It's a lifestyle, way of life thing that is worth fighting for.

Even if it didn't go to China, it would still go onto the world market where we would buy it anyway and we'd end up paying gas prices that would be pretty much the same as if Exxon etc. had drilled for it.

The difference is...well, I can't think of one, actually.

Charlie Brown needs to beat this guy. You know what to do.

Charlie has dedicated his life to taking action, and leading by example. That's why he is donating 5% of campaign contributions to non-profit organizations serving veterans and families in need in the 4th District, and around the country.

the campaign slogan practically writes itself: "You're a good man, Charlie Brown."
