GOP Senator: I Heart Democratic Nominees For President

Here's about as clear a sign of GOP desperation as you could wish for: GOP Senator Gordon Smith, who's locked in a brutal re-election battle in Oregon, has a new ad out hailing his work with not one but two Democratic nominees for president: Barack Obama and John Kerry, whom he routinely insulted back in 2004.

And Kerry is now taking a hard whack at Smith over it. First, here's the ad:

"Gordon Smith is my friend but the problem is that when it's come time to vote in the Senate he's been a much better friend of George Bush. Voting with George Bush ninety percent of the time just isn't good for the people and issues I've fought for over a lifetime," Kerry said in a statement.

Of course, Smith didn't always cozy up to Kerry. During the 2004 campaign he regularly bashed the Dem nominee for president. "It's not John Kerry's fault that he looks French," Smith said. "But it is his fault that he wants to pursue policies that have us act like the French."

Smith also said at the time: "So John Kerry to me represents socialism."

Thanks for connecting this up for us, Eric, and digging up Smith's posture in '04.

I am loving this.

Hilarious! Smith is tying himself in knots out there in Oregon. Isn't he going to lose GOP support by sucking up to the Dems, despite saying that they are French Socialists?

With that haircut, I don't think Smith should be making fun of anyone's looks anyway.

hats off to Sen Kerry who has out there doing a good job of hitting back!

Who says the GOP is a strong position this year?? Not even, the GOP itself!

Then why is McCain so close?

To give you something to talk about.

LOL, Tena. Methinks Jonze worries too much always BO should do this or do that. A concern ... ?

;)

Um, he's not.

Obama had been tied or ahead in 50 consecutive national polls through Sunday... if Obama and McCain were actually tied, we'd expect as many polls showing McCain ahead as show Obama ahead. Based on some basic calculations, the probability that 50 consecutive national surveys would show Obama tied or ahead if the candidates were actually tied is .0000000000000009.

Lookee at what I saw over at google news:

Friday List: Casting a Celeb-Centric Presidential Campaign Ad Washington Post - ‎ 28 minutes ago ‎

Thanks, John McCain, for reminding we average Americans that the most important determinant of our votes in the upcoming presidential election are not the same old tired criteria of election years past: the economy, candidate track records, platforms. ...

I am loving this.

Link?

So Gordon Smith to me represents desperation.

. . . and Gordon Smith says:

"I'm Joseph Liberman and I approve of this message."

Boy, that gordon smith is one opportunistic turd.
Unbeleivable, the stuff he said about Kerry back then and the stuff he is saying now.

Hopefully, Smiths opponent will use those socialism and french remarks in a response ad to show Oregonians the depth of his arrogance and chutzpah.

He obviously beleives the masses are asses and that he can say anythign and get away with it.

That rally Obama had in Oregon of 70K folks must have really rattled Smith's cage and teeth cause he has no heart and no core principles.
