GOP Sen. Susan Collins: Edwards Is The Father
One has to wonder whether it's appropriate for a sitting U.S. Senator to gossip about these topics on a live radio show. While appearing on local radio in Maine, Republican Senator Susan Collins said she believes John Edwards is the father of Rielle Hunter's baby:
The discussion of the Edwards scandal begins at the two-minute mark, with Collins saying at around 3:30, "But also, don't you think he is the father of the child?"

Can a nobody gossip about politicians on a blog? Because I have seen it blogged that Susan Collins is living, breathing Senatorial proof that it is, in fact, possible to boink one's brains out.
I have no idea if there is any truth to this, but if there is, could somebody speak out? I swear I hate these pseudo-moderate Bush apparatchiks more than the straight-up wingnuts. At least Jeff Sessions is what he claims to be on the campaign trail.

The problem isn't the boinking, what I object to is the involvement of underage gibbons. I'm sick and I think America is sick of "Augusta Values".

See, this is why we have the Democratic party. So you don't have to vote for people like Susan Collins.

Unless Senator Collins was in the room, one has to wonder how she able to state an opinion on this private subject. Ms. Hunter has refused DNA testing of her child, which John Edwards has asked for. I doubt that he would have asked for it unless he knew that it was impossible that he had fathered the child. This is not an invasive test. It only requires a swab of the child's inner cheek. Ms. Hunter is doing all she can to destroy John Edwards by insinuation. One has to wonder about her motives. As for a sitting republican senator, one doesn't have to wonder about her motives at all. That was a sleazy thing for Senator Collins to say and do and now we all know something more about her character. I imagine the good people of Maine can recognize a disgusting person when they hear one and they'll know what to do about her.

>>Unless Senator Collins was in the room, one has to wonder how she able to state an opinion on this private subject>>
Because, as you said, she's stating AN OPINION.
If you still think Edwards is telling the truth about the baby not possibly being his then you're delusional.
Even his Nightline interview is falling apart.
(a) it's been proven that he lied about the timeline of the affair.
(b) it's been proven that he lied about why he went to the hotel and how many times he saw Hunter and the baby.
(b) it's been proven that he lied about when he told Elizabeth about the affair.
(c) His good friend has admitted to paying for Hunter's lavish lifestyle.
(d) He said he'd be willing to take a DNA test then added "but both parties have to agree to that, you know." Then the next day Hunter says she won't agree. How convenient! It was all very carefully planned.

Or unless he knew that Rielle Hunter would turn down his offer of a paternity test.
I have no idea whatsoever whether John Edwards fathered that child. At this point it really doesn't matter (or rather shouldn't matter) to anyone but the handful of people directly involved whether or not he did. But Edwards has zero credibility with me right now. So I don't give him any points whatsoever for his paternity test offer. Absent the test, we'll just never really know the truth. And that's ok.
As for the actual subject of this post: it's pretty irresponsible and demeaning (to Sen. Collins herself) for Susan Collins to claim that Edwards fathered the child on the basis of nothing so much as speculation.

When you vote as a rubber stamp of George W. Bush like Susan Collins, instead of doing right by the people of Maine, you have a lot of free time to speculate about other people's affairs and go on the radio and gossip.
Seriously ridiculous. Instant web ad.
This race is one of a very small handful that will be tough but are possible for the Dems. We should be doing all we can in the Maine, Oregon, and Minnesota races.
We can move down the road toward a filibuster-proof majority if we can win these races. All three states are pretty solidly blue.

"Ms. Hunter is doing all she can to destroy John Edwards by insinuation."
Is joke, yes? Edwards is asking for a paternity test at the same time he is funneling money to Hunter to keep her trap shut and refuse the test.
Edwards destroyed himself, and we're damn lucky he dropped out of the primaries. It speaks volumes about his "character" that he would run in such a vital election knowing this affair would most likely be revealed. He is a narcissistic egomaniac.

It does sound like a joke, doesn't it? David Gergen said "there may be some people who believe John Edwards but I haven't met any of them!" He should come to TMP because they're all here!
I was called every name in the book because I said that Edwards was lying in his Nightline interview. Now that his "confession" is being dismantled bit by bit, there are still loons who say dumb shit like "we weren't there so we don't know what the truth is." Well, we may not know exactly what the truth is but we have enough info to know Edwards' lies!

Hunter and Edwards are colluding on which of them will not cooperate with DNA testing, I'd be willing to bet my last dollar. Edwards lied about this when it was exposed, and there is no reason to believe him now. Hang that man by his cock from the nearest tree.

Unless, of course, he wants to go into elaborate explanations trying to minimize what he's done. Sadly, I don't think Edwards can resist trying to fool everybody. It's a lost cause tho.
He should spend his time and energy on his family at this point. I really hope he puts his time into healing his family rather than trying to rehab his image...with lies?

"Have you heard the one about the exotic guy and Britney and Paris" -- heh, heh
As Lieberman said "it's cute" just "sit back and enjoy it"
Or McCain's latest stroke of comedy:
"In The 21st Century Nations Don't Invade Other Nations"
That was a hoot!!!

Ok, this one is just stupid. She is in a heated battle for her seat and one of the first things she brings up at the top of the hour is the Edwards affair. Exactly how does the edwards affair impact the national landscape let alone the maine landscape? I am sure when people are losing jobs, paying more for less, and dealing with two wars, such things take a backseat to John Edwards love life.
August 14, 2008 7:11 AM | Reply | Permalink
OK, you are just lying.
Collins DID NOT bring up Edwards, the female interviewer did. Why do you feel the need to lie like Edwards?
Where were your outrage and umbrage when Dems made hay over Wide Stance Craig?
No, like most ObaAssholes, you reserve your outrage for the opposition.
For Edwards, who proved himself a serial liar and cheat and fraud, not so much.
You are simply pathetic.
August 14, 2008 7:57 AM | Reply | Permalink
No you are pathetic. First, Collins should have stated no comment and move on or at least attempted to take the high road. Second, collins and other politicians usually have some control over what topics come up on these shows especially at the top of the hour when the phone lines are busy and heavily screened.
As for you going to the well with the larry craig issue, I do not care about him. Personally, I do not give a damn about the sex lives of politicians as long as they are not breaking laws in the process. That is right, I don't give a damn about the Edwards' family issues, McCain's family issues, craig's family issues, or any other politician's personal family issues related to their affairs/adultery.
Also, my outrage is not for Edwards. my outrage is that during an extremely important period of time in our nation and for that matter the world's time, the msm is dedicating time to this edwards crap.
But hey, if I was a republican troll such as you demonstrated by your numerous posts where you refer to others as obaasswipes and obamaholes, I would be pretty upset to if all that is discussed or picking up steam in the press is this crap.

It was Collins who brought up the paternity aspect of the conversation.
I don't recall Dems making hay over Wide Stance Larry. The pundits did, as is their habit.

Well, I certainly don't endorse the HyperCapitalized comments of trolls hepped up on too much pseudoephedrine.
But I have to admit that Collins' comments about Edwards seem completely in line to me.
Maine's a small state (lived there for a while, loved it). And Collins has a less formal style, maybe, than some other people.
But come off it. Everyone thinks it's his child; everyone gossips.
I hope Collins loses her seat. But this isn't why I hope for it.

What is the statute of limitations on cheating on your wife? Maybe it would be easier to swallow if Elizabeth was in a serious car accident, gained a lot of weight, was forced to walk around on crutches and Edwards met a rich girl 17 years his junior. Apparently these criteria are acceptable to that GOP party of "family values". Or perhaps its ok to cheat on your wife if you were a war hero.
John Edwards is a private citizen.
Hillary Clinton WAS a candidate for president... BUT DIDN"T WIN!
Barack Obama is our nominee and that senile, flip-flopping, wife cheating, unable to keep his facts straight, flag bearing disciple of the Bush administration WAR HERO is actually close in the polls... and that is HORRIFYING.
Perhaps we should be dedicating more of our blogging efforts to that and a little less energy on who Edwards is banging.
However, for those of you obsessed with the dalliances of former presidential candidates I will be starting a Gary Hart discussion thread on another blog somewhere in the near future.

It's not as if Edwards is still a senator, so she's not "gossiping" about a colleague.

I have to listen to that voice every time I turn on the news. Her commercials. Ugh. And she's got this anti-union group running commercials that make Tom Allen (her Dem rival) look like he's in cahoots with the Mob. If you're looking for somebody to send a spare $25 to, send it to Tom Allen and help put her out of business.

Dearest Freerider:
ummm... you have too much free time on your hands to worry so much about John Edwards' dick and his power to father a child.
This really is a non-issue. The only reason to continue to obsess over it is to remind the world of The Clenis, and of how The Clenis is a demon democrat.
Get it? Tangle yourself up in John Edwards' affairs and you take your eye off the big prize - The White House. John Edwards is not running for President. If you want to place John McCain in the White House, you should continue to obsess about and bestrew the blogosphere with your obsessions about John Edwards. If you don't want John McCain to be President, you should concentrate on the actual race between him and Senator Barak Obama.

I can call Edweards a lying scumbag and still donate to Obama.
I can also earn a living, clean my house and take care of my family and still talk to friends about supporting Obama.

Who the hell cares? I mean, I defeat my own point by posting. But honestly, who gives a rat's ass anyway? Why is another man cheating on his wife news?
