GOP House Candidate: Dem Opponent Wants To Cut Our Troops' Throats
Wow, talk about taking right-wing attacks against Dems on Iraq to the next level. At a debate in New Mexico for the open GOP-held Second District late last week, Republican nominee Ed Tinsley accused his Dem opponent Harry Teague of wanting to cut the throats of American troops in Iraq:
"How can I call my two nephews over there right now ... and tell them I'm running against a guy that will cut your throat -- that will cut the bottom out of your funding," Tinsley said.
At this point Tinsley was drowned out by boos from the audience.

What a total piece of shit.
Does anyone know what areas of NM the 2nd district covers?

The 2nd district is southern NM. Here is a map:

That's an awful thing to say.
Mr. Tinsley, shame on you.

When will McCain denounce and reject this? Or is that standard only applied ot Democrats?

Perhaps the best part of this. I hope the moment will make its way into a campaign spot.
Really, isn't opening the curtain on typical Republican paranoid fantasist lunacy one of the best ways to counter it?

I agree. Shine the spotlight on the nastiness of turkeys like this one.

I especially liked how he opened this little attack by referring to his two nephews fighting overseas. I imagine it WOULD be difficult to tell them that their uncle's opponent wants to "slit their throats." But I also wonder how they would feel about being used as political props by their uncle--who is running so that he can vote to keep them in Iraq indefinitely.
I bet that would be hard to tell them, too.

I'm sure he hasn't even thought it through that far. He's in it to "win" it. To hell with their throats, full speed ahead!

Somehow pulling them out of Iraq (where people who actively want them dead can be found) is the same as cutting their funding and then leaving them there. Does the GOP actively go out a recruit candidates with tendency to drool on themselves?

its nice to see he's not exploiting the fact that his nephews are in iraq just to gain politically...

Tinsley wants to be MY Congressman. The only ad I ever saw of his during the primary was a warning about the terrorists coming from Mexico and the need for a great big fence between us & Mexico to keep them out. Bona fied CREEP from the bottom up.
Typical Republican......

... in contrast to the "kinder and gentler" GOP candidates who just want to fondle the troops' private parts.

Another dead in the water Republican blaming democrats for their own failed policies.

Tinsley will have a strong chance of being elected from NM02. He's a businessman spouting all the knee-jerk talking points that conservative white folks in rural NM want to hear. Except for small areas around Silver City and Las Cruces, finding a liberal in NM02 is like finding lutefisk at a Mexican restaurant.
There have been 10 US Representatives from NM since 1969; seven of those have been Republicans. NM is dependent on national defense spending and is significantly Catholic and anti-abortion; no surprise then that its citizens regularly choose national representatives that are Republicans even when the Democratic Party has controlled state government for a very long time.

Yes, but his opponent isn't exactly a classic progressive. While he wants out of the war in Iraq... he is also in the oil industry. And is from Hobbs, the same area where current Rep. Steve Pearce is from.
Also, Harry Teague has been elected as a Lea County Commissioner, while Tinsley is just a restaurant-owner.
Meanwhile, Tinsley is getting flack for his second home out of the district in the highly-Democratic town of Santa Fe. Like national Republicans like to demonize "San Francisco liberals," the New Mexico GOP attack "Santa Fe liberals."

Since when does hypocrisy disqualify a Republican (or even a Democrat, for that matter) from winning political office?
It will beinteresting to see what kind of a fight Teague can put up.

"I don't mean to be inflamatory, but if given the chance Democrats will attack and murder American soldiers. Also, they will assault your grandmother and send your kids to forced labor camps.
Again, I don't want you to think I'm being 'negative' here. Just pointing out important differences between me and my opponent."

http://www.iava.org states that Representative Steve Pearce (R-NM 2nd District) only voted with them 63.6% of the time.
http://vawatchdog.org/ shows that it is McCain's plan to privatize the VA.
Tinsley's nephews should shank him when they get back.
