Chris Matthews: What's Hillary's Secret Plot To Seize Back the White House?
If you've been watching cable news today, you've seen pundit after pundit hyping the division between the Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. But the prize for desperate pimping of the Dem-division meme goes to Chris Matthews, who literally asked a Hillary-land insider to reveal her secret scheme for "restoration of the Clinton presidency."
Matthews, who was grilling longtime Hillary aide Lisa Caputo, actually asked:
"What is the current Clinton plan to regain the White House for the family? I mean, if Barack Obama wins this general election, he will no doubt be renominated by the Democratic party in four years -- how can the Clintons get back the White House if Barack does win?"
Caputo was so taken aback by the question that she got flummoxed on the air and laughed: "Oh Chris, how can you ask that question, for God's sake?"
A deflated Matthews rejoined: "So there's no more plan for a Clinton restoration, of a Clinton presidency? I'm serious. Why are you laughing?"
So many reasons, Chris, so many reasons. . .

No, he didn't... YES, HE DID!

LOL...Chris Matthews will not give up on this. I think Clintons are total partisans and really want Obama to be in the WH.

I'm taking up a collection to hire a hitman to put Tweety out of his misery. This guy is bonkers. And I figure Mrs. Tweety is probably sick of his ass and would appreciate the life insurance payout.

I'm with you, Kash. Enough w/ this soap opera BS. Come out and say it. And if it's ridiculous, then say it's ridiculous, Hillary has no further interest in the White House and neither does Bill.

I'm surprised he didn't bring up Hillary's assasination of RFK reference....... and the implication that had on Obama.

I'm gonna have to go the other way on this one. Her actions during the last stretch of the campaign were that of a desperate, sore loser. While you could argue that too much is being made of her supporters not backing Obama, it seems pretty fair for Chris to ask about the Clintons' motives. They aren't exactly pure as fresh snow. She can change that with a big speech tonight. But not before she shows the same glee when attacking McCain that she did when going after Obama.

Senator Casey: McCain is not a maverick, it's a sidekick!
Best line of the night so far.

I KNOW! I was just about to post that!

Obama and Biden should be using that line in campaign ads.

That is the best line of the night...McCain is a sidekick of George Bush

But why did he go on to say that Hillary ran a "fabulous campaign"?? She did not! And he's not the only one who has said that this week. If she had run a fabulous campaign, going into it with all her advantages, she would have won!! She ran a stinky campaign, she lost in a more than fair fight, so she and all her sore loser supporters should get over it and get with the program! And everyone should stop kissing her big fat ass.

Yeah, like Batman and Robin. But from the crappy '90s movie with the Governator as the villian.
Or maybe the two brothers from Dumb and Dumber?

Matthews is just being more honest than most. What will the media do without a Clinton White House conspiracy???

They may just have to focus on McCain.

Matthews loves hearing himself talk. He excites in playing gotcha, though he's often incoherent and self-deluded.
OTOH, Nixon insider Pat Buchanan is especially revolting. Like many right-wing liars, he can't stand being successfully refuted, so he tries to talk over anyone who comes close to making a point he finds inconvenient.
Rule of thumb: The person with the weakest argument does the most talking and interrupting. Duh!

Who the hell picked Warner for the keynote?
Car phones?
WTF is this?

I thought the speech was great. It's just what Barack Obama would've wanted.

Piston,
Warner is running for the Senate, that was his "Running for the Senate" speech. I fell to sleep.

"John McCain says he's a maverick. But he's voted with Bush over 90% of the time. That's not a maverick. That's a sidekick!"
Let's hope we see a widely syndicated political cartoonist pick up on this and whip up something depicting McCain as Tonto to Bush's Kemo Sabe.

Warner is making a good case. So far, so good.
The government & science line worked for me.

He's doing a great job speaking to the moderates out there watching from places like Virginia and my current state Indiana.
August 26, 2008 10:01 PM | Reply | Permalink
A good case for what? It sounded like a stump speech for Warner. Did he even mention McCain? What a fucking wasted opportunity.
August 26, 2008 10:02 PM | Reply | Permalink
He mentioned the good ideas coming from Republicans. And that he was smart enough to get in on the ground floor in the car phone business.
It reminded me of having my dentist lecture me about plaque.

Warner's speech wasn't bad, but it sounded like he was talking to shareholders at a corporate meeting--not exactly inspirational. But I guess he was pitching it to the centrists, and maybe even the swing voters, which makes a certain amount of sense given his own centrism.
But yeah, a missed opportunity to go after McCain and the Repugs. Another missed opportunity.
August 26, 2008 10:08 PM | Reply | Permalink
It can't all be hammering McCain. In places like Indiana and Ohion people are suffering and truly fearful about the future. Attacking McCain isn't going to make them vote for Obama. They have to believe that he has ideas, that there is a future that isn't just potholes in the streets and empty factories.
August 26, 2008 10:09 PM | Reply | Permalink
Agreed, absolutely, and I know some Warner supporters who were looking to him to make the kind of positive, post-partisan speech that he did. But given that it was the keynote speech, I wish he had gone on the attack just a little bit.
August 26, 2008 10:15 PM | Reply | Permalink
Yeah, personally I would, too.
August 26, 2008 10:19 PM | Reply | Permalink
Damn you liberal MSM!! Why are you pushing so hard to get Obama elected?!
August 26, 2008 10:10 PM | Reply | Permalink
Then he was speaking to you. The governor here in Indiana isn't incrediably well liked by the Dems, yet everyone always adds to any comment, "but at least he ideas and tries to do something. That's refreshing."
I think that the bi-partisanship angle can get as many votes as another hammering of McCain at this point. Some people are tired of the bickering, they're scared and want someone with some ideas.

We have got to stop watching each daily poll to determine whether we live or die. We have to stop expecting each speech to do the job of the whole campaign. All kinds of speeches are called for. The effect is cumulative. Schweitzer is speaking now -- wonderfully, in my view -- but if all the speeches were like that, it would be like a concert where piece after piece was in the same style, key, and tempo.
Folks, the Obama campaign knows what they are doing. Give them a chance to play the whole opera instead of heckling every individual aria that doesn't do everything you personally want.
(And the Warner speech did very little for me personally. But the whole country needs a whole lot of what he has helped Virginia to.)

twin city mccain---hillary was outstanding...i better not here one critique about her speech...it was flawless!!! now both clintons and obama/biden need to hit the road running campaigning their hearts out and pleading their case to the American people....
this was the hillary we all have been waiting for and regardless of her motives, the end game is same-UNITY!

Hillary will be 68 in 2016 (older women in this society are not described as distinguished), so she cannot be President if Obama wins. Thus, she must look on the surface like she wants him to win but she will do what she can to see that he loses.
Look for another drop for Obama in one or both tracking polls Wednesday morning.

Democrats that appear on these news shows need to totally embarrass the host, like Matthews, when they ask asinine or leading questions.
'Chris, how can you ask such a stupid question?
There is no basis for you to ask that question, are you just trying to make a bigger name for yourself with these childish comments?'
'Chris, you need to get a job with the National Enquirer, you seem to love wallowing in gossip of the worst sort.'
