Top McCain Surrogate Refuses To Endorse McCain Attack On Obama
This is pretty great. John McCain's claim that Barack Obama would rather lose the war than lose the presidential race is so repugnant that one of his most prominent surrogates -- Florida Governor Charlie Crist, who's also talked about as a potential Veep -- refused to endorse it.
Take a look...
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, to his credit, pressed Crist at least three times on whether he agrees with the notion that Obama wants to lose the war, and each time, Crist ducked, finally saying: "I have no idea. I would hope not."
But make no mistake: Even if Crist is unwilling to say it, the McCain campaign's official message -- voiced by the candidate himself -- is that Obama is basically committing treason.

It's obvious after this that Crist won't be the VP.

That comment of McCAin should dog whoever is the Veep pick. Ask that person over and over and over whether he/she thinks Obama "wants to lose the war".
It was stupid beyond belief for McCain to have made that remark, because now there's no way of wriggling out from under it. Making reprehensible remarks should be left to surrogates.
It was a despicable comment, but might prove to be a gift to the Obama campaign in the long run.

agree. every surrogate should be asked if he/she agrees with this.

It will only be a gift to the Obama campaign if McCain or his VP (which Crist wants to be) repeats this attack.
With the McCain campaign in such disarray, he can let his surrogates peddle these attacks, then personally repudiate them after. I think Charlie Crist considers himself more of a potential-VP than a true, attack-dog surrogate. That's why he won't peddle this attack, because it could haunt him when he (wishfully) becomes McCain's VP nominee.
But Crist has got no chance of being the VP nominee. If Tom Ridge is out because of questions over his abortion stance, then Crist is definitely out over questions about his sexuality. He IS a Republican.

But he didn't. Instead, the candidate himself peddled the attack. Repeatedly, over several days, in prepared remarks, he called Obama a traitor. When journalists called him on it, he didn't quite double down, but neither did he backtrack.

I must say, Greg, I don't see anything like a courageous willingness to call out his own candidate here. He couldn't even say ". . . as far as a know." Indeed, this clip is only noteworthy because of Scarborough's recognition that the charge is a remarkable one, and his completely fruitless effort to get Crist to distance himself from McCain.
I give Crist zero maverick points for this interview.

You could see Crist smirk every time the commentator was going back to ask him the question.
What's this talk of McCain wanting to talk about the issues? His last four ads are all about attacking Obama, not about the issues. Does he think because he slips in an issue in the last five seconds of an ad it becomes an issue ad?
This is becoming a pretty strong McCain news day. I don't think Crist handled himself badly and the commentator repeated 5-6 times "McCain says Obama wants to lose the war" - so that's a win in establishing that meme.

Although Crist's comments are welcome, note how Scarborough repeats the treasonous comments 4 times, each time perpetuating the charge. Somehow the Obama campaign (and sympathetic press) need to reframe these questions. Is John McCain an honest politician? What happened to John McCain's straight talking bi-partisanship? Why do you think John McCain has resorted to these attacks? Let people like Crist answer for McCain's twisted psyche rather than examine Obama's motives. How refreshing it would be to turn on the tv and hear someone say, "Tell me, Governor Crist, are McCain's ludicrous attacks the result of unresolved anger from his years in a prison camp or are they the signs of frustrated ambition?"

Brilliant! But to every republican, not just Crist. And to all the fucking PUMAs, too. And to McCain himself - while he's doing a major live interview. That will set off the freak-out that will kill his campaign for good.

Sheesh. He responded at the end by saying "who knows whether Obama wants to win this war". He is basically saying YES! Gimme a break. It reminds me of Hillary's comment about him being a Muslim and responding "not as far as I know". They are all slander. He refuses to say what is obvious, that Obama does not want to lose this war. He leaves it open so that those viewing come to the conclusion that he believes it is true but can't flat out say it.
Why are people lauding this fool with saying that he refused to agree while leaving it open beats me? Listen to his last comment, he leaves the question open by saying he doesn't know, he HOPES not and WHO KNOWS about if he wants to lose this war. Grotesque and pathetic.

From ABCNews: "over 90 percent of the ads aired by Obama are positive in nature and do not mention Senator McCain. Approximately a third of the McCain campaign's ads are negative, contrasting the two presidential candidates.

And negative pretty much always wins - even if the public says they hate it, it works. Of course contrasting the candidates is not negative as long as it is A]truthful and B]On the issues.

Yeah, Crist is really heroic: "I have no idea. I would hope not" IS AN INSULT. THOSE WORDS ARE THEMSELVES AN INSULT TO BARACK OBAMA.
That sounds just like the creepy slime that oozes out of Lieberman's mouth all the time. "Gee, I don't know if he's a satanist. I would hope not." Oh, gee, golly-gosh, I'm just an innocent senator. What do I know of such worldly matters? He may hold black masses, but, gee, I've never witnessed one.
Crist spouts and embraces innuendo and you talk like he's some kind of hero. What--have you got some kind of tin ear for phony, patronizing insults?

You've got the framing issue exactly right, Mercer. Obama is subjected to the sort of scrutiny no man could handle while McCain just skirts by.
Why won't someone in the media ask McCain about getting in fist fights with republican congressmen or calling his wife a c*nt in front of reporters?
Why does the media constantly refer to Obama as an elitist when the McCains are 50x as wealthy?

Just a thought on the meme idea...
"Memeticists argue that the memes most beneficial to their hosts will not necessarily survive; rather, those memes that replicate the most effectively spread best, which allows for the possibility that successful memes may prove detrimental to their hosts."[3] - from Wikipedia
Let's hope so in this case....

Tell me Senator McCain, do you remember exactly how many times your captors attached those high-voltage electrodes to your head, and is that why you think torturing prisoners is OK?
Because honestly, Sir, there seems to be some lingering effect. For instance, most people running for President don't call their multi-millionaire wives c**ts in front of reporters, if at all. And for someone on the appropriations committee for Afghanistan, I'd expect you to know it doesn't share a common border with Iraq.
And I don't mean to be disrespectful, but medical advice isn't disrespectful; it's out of care and concern for your welfare that I suggest you had better get a CAT scan because I think you have early-onset dementia which could indicate an embolism. Or it might merely mean you have been getting into Cindy's Percoset again.

I was at the rally in Berlin. It was'nt only Germans there. There were THOUSANDS of AMERICANS there as well. How do we know this? We know this because Democrats Abroad was running voter registration tables . We ended up registering over a thousand expats and their children.
I would have to say that the highlight of the day for me was when I called out a "faux" news reporter ....the entire time he was doing his live broadcast! Needless to say he had to stop many, many times! People around me asked me who he was , when I told them, hundreds of others joined in! Candi Crowley laughed her ass off!!
He tried to have me removed from the press area. Problem was, I was there with my camera team from Swiss National Television. my crew filmed him telling me to shut up! It was fantastic! He finally went back on the air AFTER THE RALLY! But peace was nowhere to be found! I stalked him. This time I was a silent protester! I mouthed the words " fixed news" as I was standing behind him!
I am sure he and "faux" news really hate Germany now!
I admit it was not very professional of me, and seeing that I was there as a journalist and not as the co-chair for Baracks Campaign in the German Region of Switzerland; I just could not help myself! It was so wrong , but by golly it felt soooooo good! The devil made me do it! ;)

The mainstream media is ignoring "the story" and the story is that evidence abounds that John McCain is clearly of unsound mind and unfit to be in a leadership position. Mental illness whether it is PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome), senility and alzheimers are all serious diseases which should disqualify someone for consideration for the highest office in the land. John McCain is a Trojan Horse for the same NEOCONS that catapulted W Bush into the White House. Many in in McCain's own party are well aware that McCain is off his rocker, but he will give them whatever WAR they need which is all they care about. Romney is being pushed on McCain because it will be clear to everyone, shortly after a McCain election that he is INSANE. America can simply do better than to vote for a 72 year old relic who suffers from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome). Evidence is clear that McCain was tortured so severely in Vietnam that he tried to commit suicide. On the campaign trail, including interviews with media professionals, McCain has exhibited a regular failure to recall basic facts and has been known to lash out in anger and sing strange songs like "Bomb Bomb Iran" to the tune of the Beachboys Barbara Ann. The Mainstream media and McCain's handlers have focused on selling Americans on imagery of the "War Hero...Maverick...Naval Aviator" while hiding the disturbing side of McCain. Nine out of 10 POW's who returned from Vietnam were diagnosed with PTSD. Despite his wearing Navy ballcaps regularly and posing as a TOP GUN ala Tom Cruise, all evidence illustrates that McCain was a horrible pilot, nearly flunked out of the Naval Academy where he spent more of his time behind a bar stool than studying and preparing to become a proficient pilot. McCain was unprepared for Vietnam and is admittedly unprepared now. He has stated that "the economy is not my strong suit" and "I need my assistants to log me on to the internet. I have no use for email." ----Is this the type of Maverick America needs right now...or an old ignorant schmuck who is the Trojan Horse of the GOP?
