Poll: Obama Leads In Pennsylvania, Cracks 50%
The latest poll out of Pennsylvania has some good news for Barack Obama: He's now over 50% in this big swing state.
The new numbers from Rasmussen: Obama 51%, McCain 45%, with a ±3% margin of error.
A key number is that 46% of respondents say economic issues are their biggest concern, and they favor Obama 60%-29%. This is compared to only 25% who rate national security as the top issue, a group that gives McCain a 58%-33% lead.

Yet another dementia moment or aka MSM gaffe of McCain's from Young Turks: they are questioning his mental abilities now too.

And another hypocritical accusation against Obama.

Criticizing him for giving a speech outside the USA and not being President. McCain did it himself in Canada, which his campaign paid for.

It confuses me why so many polling organizations show Obama continuing to do well and make gains nation-wide, but Quinnipiac had those numbers showing Obama losing steam.
July 24, 2008 5:56 PM | Reply | Permalink
I think the pollsters are absolutely flummoxed this year.
They know that the electoral model is different this year than past years. Cellphones, the Internet, a large number of TV choices, all contribute to the mystery of where the electorate is going or what it is thinking.
They're all guessing as to what is really happening.
That's my take on why these polls are all over the map.
For those who eat up the horse-race that is polling, this will be a very frustrating campaign season.

Yeah, I would agree with that analysis. A lot have things have changed drastically, and pollsters are behind the times in adjusting. We've seen numerous times this election cycle that things just went horribly wrong when it came to predicting the outcome.

The media bashing is quite stunning at the moment, they are short to say that Obama is losing because of the latest polls in Wisconsin, Colorado, Minnessota...
Herbert is even saying that McBushSame has had a good week.
They are now saying that Obama's speech in Berlin was poor. Ryan Latta went further by saying nothing will be remember from the speech in the years to come...
They forgot of course to mention the latest latino polls...

Lizza...The New Yorker...think he might have beef?
The guy thought he'd be attending the speech. Instead, he's talking to a guy who, every time he pops up on TV, I have to turn the volume down. Think he might be bitter?

If the polls show a wipeout in favor of Obama, the media heathers will say "Obama is in trouble because(fill in the blank). This shows his weakness." All they care about is a horse race. No tight race, no excitement, no viewers, no ad revenue, no five million dollar salaries for sitting in an air conditioned studio and bloviating.

That's very true. Witness Bob Herbert's critique tonight on Obama. What an idiot!

Yeah, just like no one would remember Lincoln's short little speech dedicating a national cemetery in PA. The guy who spoke before Abe spoke for two hours. Lincoln spoke for two minutes.
Well, I guess he won't ned Hillary to carry PA.

I must admit I hate the ones like this less than the ones that show the opposite.
but - I just don't trust any poll. *sigh*

It's good news for some of us to calm our nerves, after the recent Quinniac Poll showing Obama loosing some ground in some swing states.
But I ain't worried.
Frankly, it seems Obama is doing all the right things and McCain is displaying a total lack of purpose. The contrast is out there for every one to see.
Even then if the Great American Electorate elects McCain, it just means we as a nation are required to suffer more before we deserve any better. That's that.
One thing I hope Obama camp become more active in quelling those stupid McCain attack ads.
Bottom Line: Obama is running a solid campaign and I ain't gonna measure his candidacy by these volatile and unreliable polls.

I've been worried that the offshore drilling was hurting Obama. There really hasn't been a compelling Democratic push-back against what is, on a simplistic level, a seemingly attractive idea.
On the other hand, I can report two instances in the past few days of strong Dems in W. Pa., who had supported Hillary and who had been very much against Obama. One an older woman had told me in the Spring that she can't get past the Obama/Osama thing. The other, a middle aged union rep, has a HS aged daughter who was asked why her family was supporting Hillary. She reponded "why? because we're not black." (I assume the daughter's views reflected the parents'. Now both are supporting Obama.
Still think we need to drive McCain's unfavorables up. 'Cause the media is doing everything they can to prop him up.

Obama is damn if he does and damn if he doesn't. It is impossible for John McCain to have one nice word come out of his mouth. I guessed as much since he was known as a bully in high school and called his wife and trollop and that other word......
He is the most negative person - how the press can even stand to interview him is beyond me. I cannot watch any answer of his for more than five seconds, snooze.
Are these polled people even watching any news, even MSM, McCain is his own worse enemy. Every interview just reaffirms what a boring S.O.B. he is.

...McCain is his own worse enemy.
Truer words have never been said. It's truly amazing that McCain is seemingly able to stay afloat despite being such a fuck-up. I really wish he weren't such one. It would make for a more interesting and engaging election. Unfortunately, he is one, and it just keeps getting worse and piling on.

Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, you mean like McCain and his minions calling Obama isolationist for talking about renegotiating trade agreements, then he gives a speech abroad stressing the importance of America's relationship with the rest of the world and gets criticized for that?
You're right about McCain's negativity. He appears to suffer from a massive inferiority complex. Whatever his problem is, the presidency is not the cure.

Scientific, yes lizza is bitter much...
Herbert has no credibility, I even forgot to mention that Herbert said that the polls are not reflecting the reality and that in fact Obama's number should be less, and Mcbushsame numbers are higher than the polls suggest...
Yet according to McBushSame, the was in Afghanistan is irrelevant, and that he forgot his trip to Canada...
Of course, this is not being reported...And, the media is in love with Obama...I guess I must miss when the press is praising Obama...:)

Completely off-topic though not nearly blogworthy and I'm sure many, if not all know this, but Jimmy Smits character on "The West Wing" Matt Santos was inspired by and modeled after Barack Obama.

The parallels between West Wing Season 6 and the 2008 presidential campaign are eerie.
Young, charismatic minority wins a very hotly contested Dem primary battle against the "big name" candidate and then goes on to wipe the floor with the elderly "straight talkin'" Republican.
July 24, 2008 9:04 PM | Reply | Permalink
Of course the Alan Alda character was going to win until the unfortunate death of actor John Spencer, who played Santos’s running-mate, Leo McGarry, died of a heart attack.

Jonze, as a West Wing fan I am curious -- where did you hear that story? I've never read anywhere that the producers didn't always intend Santos to win. In fact I thought John Spencer died pretty late into filming of the final season.

Someone earlier in the thread questioned democratic resistance to drilling offshore. I have to say I agree.
Now, I'm thinking out loud here, but what would happen if Obama went to the right of McCain and proposed overturning the ban on drilling in ANWAR?

Yeah, you're probably right. Bad idea.
I can't shake the fear though that McCain is getting traction on his OCS drilling stance. The majority of Americans now think it's a good idea, and yet Obama resists it and the polls continue to tighten...
