No Word Yet From McCain Camp On McCain's Discussion Of Obama Trip Timing
The McCain campaign has yet to comment on a Reuters story that broke this afternoon reporting that McCain said he believed that Obama would be in Iraq "today or tomorrow," despite such details usually being kept secret for security reasons.
"I believe that either today or tomorrow -- and I'm not privy to his schedule -- Sen. Obama will be landing in Iraq with some other Senators," McCain said.
As of yet, it's unclear exactly how serious a breach this is. Some media have reported obliquely on the timing of Obama's trip, though to our knowledge no media have named the two days Obama is supposed to be in Iraq. It's also unclear as yet whether McCain was sharing inside info or simply passing on what he thought had already been reported.
But the McCain campaign has yet to offer any public clarification.
The Obama campaign has also declined to comment.

McCain is senile. He forgot that he wasn't supposed to talk about this, just like he forgot there's no Czechoslovakia or the difference between Sunni and Shiia.
Sure, this guy can be trusted with state secrets:
"Hey, Putin. We got 200 new nukes last month! nah, nah, nah!!!"

What need is there for a response?
The fact is that John McCain is hoping Barack Obama gets killed. He wanted to give any potential terrorist plot an eyes up so they have a better chance at hitting their target.
The window to watch and wait for activity such as aircraft flying into the area is now much narrower thanks to McCain.

McCain would have us believe he has gained valuable insights from his trips to Iraq, yet he doesn't appear to have learned even the basic security procedures.

McCain and his campaign are going to do one extreme thing after another, because they are freaked out that they are losing. McCain clearly has no respect for Obama, and he always believes in his own patriotic righteousness no matter what. So expect a lot of bad stuff from now on.
The media and the punditry SHOULD jump on this. But the standards for Democrats and Republicans are completely different.

As Josh said, if the situation were reversed the MSM would all over this for the next three days.
Just as the Bushies and right wing columnists were given a pass for Plame, this too will be no big deal.

Have you noticed that Rachel Maddow is also bothered by some of Noah's statements. the camera cut to her today, and you could see her perplexed facial expressions as he was speaking.

I say this was deliberate, because either
a) it's true, in which case Obama would be insane not to postpone the trip at least a few days or
b) it's false & McCain was being reckless.
Either way, it lays the foundation for an attack that Obama "still hasn't been to Iraq," or that he's waffling on whether to go to Iraq, or that he can't be trusted to keep his promise to go to Iraq, etc. ad nauseam.

One thing worth remembering, the people responsible for Obama's security on this trip take their job very seriously. If they consider this a major breach, they will recommend that he change his itinerary.

If the situation were reversed, and Obama outed McCain, is there any doubt that the mainstream media would be all over the story like white on rice. McCain says something outrageous and the press yawns. The double standard is ridiculous and ever-widening.

But that has been par for the course so far in media coverage. For all the discourse regarding the favorable treatment that Senator Obama gets from the media, it is all BS smokescreen in my view.
If you look at just a few of the mis-steps from McCain (Sunni vs Shia, Al Qadea in iran, Czechoslovakia, kill Iranians with cigarettes, the rape joke, etc...), it would have been a media feeding frenzy on Senator Obama if he was the one stepping all over his tongue like that.

It's hard for me to decide whether this was simply carelessness or intentional. Either way, it's not good for McCain. I don't believe this will penetrate the "base" (having spent the last couple of days with a relative who listens to Rush and Sean non-stop, and who never gets any contrary information injected into her 93-year-old mind).
But it is troubling. Either McCain is showing his age and forgetting stuff he shouldn't, or he has such disdain for Obama that he's rationalizing any tactic, no matter how slimy. The same thing happened to the Clinton campaign. Obama drove them nuts. Or -- and I find this unlikely -- he is willing to put his campaign and ambition above country, secretly hoping that something bad will happen to Obama (and 'accidentally' rooting for the bad guys.)
Again, same sentiment came out of Hillary's mouth twice, and Bill's on more than one occasion. The competition is rough, and it's revealing about a man's (or woman's) character if they were ever to take the latter position. It would be a moral disqualification for the office, and I think that over the next 100 days, more and more polling will show that non-insane Americans are quietly being repelled by McCain's amazingly ugly and incompetent 'campaign.'
He'll be lucky to get out of this without a ruined repuation. His time has passed.

How could it be an "accident"? He's made the trip eight times and had the security briefing eight times to keep his itinerary quiet for safety and security reasons. The d@#* old fool wants to be president so badly that he'd do a thing like this? He needs a course in patriotism and in what it means to be a traitor.

God forbid Obama is hurt during his trip to Europe, Afghanistan and Iraq, but would the press hold McCain responsible? Unfortunately I fear not, as evidenced by their BLABBING of McCain's so called information.
I really am sorry to admit this, but the longer this goes on, the more I have come to loathe the right wing AND the press. There was a time when there were two parties both fairly respectful of each other and each representing different ideas on how to solve our common problems; but unfortunately those are days of old.

As McCain tells us ad nauseum, he has been to Iraq eight times. Security instructions to Senators and
Congressmen/women is not to divulge the exact dates for security reasons. McCain knew exactly what he was doing. Isn't endangering the life of a presidential candidate an act of treason? Why would anyone ever trust him with national security or state secrets? Even if he was guessing, which I don't believe for a minute, it was still a dangerous and stupid thing to do. Patriotism is more than just waving a flag and spouting platitudes. An essential part of it is that you don't paint a target on the possible next president of your country. What an absolute and complete @@@!

Well, to be honest, I don't want the media all over this like white on rice unless it's false, Obama reschedules or they wait until he's left. I am not too concerned about terrorists reading it here, but if it's on CNN every 20 minutes, they will know. How better to derail America's chances of extricating ourselves from this mess and ending their biggest recruitment incentive than what McCain just enabled with his incompetence.
I don't think it was intentional. McCain has too long a history of spewing any old thing without thought. He has decades of evidence that when he engages his mouth, he shuts off his mind. That such incompetence should disqualify him from the presidency is as obvious as is the media sycophantic adoration of McCain simply because he talks to them.
Really, to be president in the US, you don't need competence, intelligence, courage (W), integrity or anything at all but a brown nose and oral gonorrhea from kissing media ass.

Josh: This is really serious business and raises some uncomfortable questions about Mr McCain. First, remember that Mr McCain was raised in a family of high ranking US Navy officers and graduated from the Naval Academy. One of the most serious traditional Naval breaches of security is revealing ship movements which has been a very serious court martial offense and in certain circumstances--at least in the past--could be a capital offense. Commission of such an offense could put a ship in serious jeopardy. Mr. McCain was raised in a culture where this was ingrained. It was very serious business when I was in the Navy more than thirty years ago.
Mr. McCain's statement is certainly at the least a very close relative to the Naval offense of revealing ship movements. He had to realize this. Now why did he say it? I can think of only two possibilities (but admit there may be more): one, he is trying to sabotage Mr. Obama's trip and give the security folks an excuse to cancel the trip (but that emphasizes the huge "remaining" dangers in Iraq); the other is that he is showing age and showing signs of diminished mental capacity.

Can you imagine the outcry if McCain were going overseas and Obama speculated that within 24-48 hours McCain would be in a war zone. Jesus, the Freepers would be calling for a public execution.
I actually like McCain, and voted for him in 2000 during the Republican primary before the Iraq war forever made me a democrat, but this is just Mickey Mouse shit.

The Secret Service shoulda publicly escorted Senator Wackadoo in and sweated him for several hours then they shoulda grabbed up ex-Governor Huckleberry. A couple of hours later, Condie Rice should have to publicly explain how potential trip information of a Presidential Candidate got into the hands of her Party's Candidate so it could be released to the world at large that the opposition was going into enemy territory.
Obama will be their boss next year . . . What better way to gain his favor than to squelch the RNC conspracy to get him killed.
