New Ad Lampoons McCain's Love Affair With Media
Media Matters Action Network goes up with a new ad that tries to rebut -- and parody -- John McCain's recent Web video lampooning Obama's love affair with the media.
The new spot shows McCain picking daisy petals as he asks himself whether reporters still love him...
I'm told that Media Matters put $100,000 into an initial buy and is airing the spot only in New York and Washington, D.C., which obviously means the ad is strictly targeted at the insiders and two-timing reporters whose affections are apparently swinging wildly back and forth between the two men.

I hope people will wise up soon to the media's love affair with McCain, the sooner they do that the sooner we can guilt the press into doing their job:

Creepy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
The press is biased towards COVERING Obama, not towards Obama. The result? Much more scrutiny and analysis of every word, to the degree that would have long since sunk McCain's candidacy.

Very important distinction.

True dat.
But I think Obama knew going in that he was going to get this kind of scrutiny.

Precisely. What sickens me is the media's inability to make this distinction themselves.

Spot on, "my friend". That is exactly correct. Unfortunately some would argue (straw-man alert!) that is "nuance" and doesn't mean anything. But in the world of politics, negative publicity is NOT the same as publicity.

A great ad. I hope Media Matters runs this ad in all 50 states. Good job, Media Matters.

Agreed. They both suck.

The facebook parody is put out by the RNC, this ad was put out by a group independent of the Obama Campaign or the DNC.
Though I agree that both are silly, as was the original "Media loves Obama" vids that I believe were also put out by the RNC.

I love this ad. Aimed right at the rear end of the MSM. ;)

can someone explain the strategy of targeting beltway insiders? is it just a strategy to get them talking and to try to shift the narrative?
cuz otherwise, i dont see what good it does.

You hit the nail on the head. McCain's "Barack only wants to see the troops when the cameras are around" ad was an extremely limited buy. The whole purpose is to get this into the feedback loop of the yammering parrots on TV...

Speaking of the media. Why has no one asked John McCain, what he thought about Katie Couric, switching one answer for another? Do you think there would have been a hue and cry raised if the edited version had been the original; and they substituted the answer that made him look the fool on his signature issue? Has John McCain been asked to address his real answer during that interview? Has anyone in the mainstream media confronted him about this face-saving editing and how it relates to his claims of the media bias in favor of Barack Obama?

Gets a pass on every blooper. I would LOVE to see his response to the Katie Couric switch!

I used to watch Joe Scarborough on MSNBC in the morning, and Christ, the first hour is 90% negative toward Obama. I gave up and now watch local news until C-SPAN at 7:00.

I watch the original Star Trek series before C-SPAN

Bad idea to use Chris Matthews — who, in the past, has both cried over an Obama speech and compared him to Jesus — described exactly what happens to him when Obama speaks:
I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often. It is a fact that the entire male media and male Obamabots have a Homoerotic crush on Obama.
It is sickening.

Uh... okay, I'm all for getting miffed at the kid gloves people are giving McCain, but this ad's just childish. Truthfully, I felt embarrassed watching it.

Well ... it's directed at children.

I don't think this is the best way for MediaMatters to contribute. I'd prefer they polish their journalistic image, not produce propaganda. Media Matters should be the source to quote for hard facts when making an argument, as they are often used on TalkingPointsMemo.
In fact, the video actally disparages opinion "journalism" while being Media Matters foray into opinion journalism.

So - looks like to me they have given up on ads directed to the people that vote and just go directly to the media. Hmmmm.
