National Dems Plowing Huge Money Into Key North Carolina Senate Race
It looks like national Democratic strategists have concluded that they have a very good shot at knocking off North Carolina Senator Elizabeth Dole, which would amount to a huge Senate seat pickup in a deep-red state.
The Raleigh News and Observer reports that the DSCC is preparing to throw an enormous sum of cash into the race, reserving several hundred thousand dollars worth of ad time on the CBS affiliate in Raleigh alone. The total ad time reserved in the state could go as high as $6 million, with the ads set to run this fall.
Incumbent Republican Elizabeth Dole currently has a strong lead in the polls, thanks to a heavy ad blitz Dole unleashed right after the Dem candidate, state senator Kay Hagan, won her primary. Kay Hagan won her own primary. But the Dems think the race will even out in the run-up to the general election, with Barack Obama also targeting the state with his turnout and advertising efforts.

Well, Libby can horn (pardon the pun) into her hubby's business and start hocking hormones stimulating the female libido. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, so to speak...

Not sure how the hell it happened, but a few months ago I got a "what issues most concern you" survey from Elizabeth Dole in the mail. It asked all sorts of questions that were obviously intended to whip up anti-immigration sentiment in NC. I thought it was disgusting.
I only filled out the bottom of the survey, quoting her the Old Testament line about "You were once strangers in the land of Egypt, so should treat strangers in your land kindly in return" (Leviticus 19:34), told her she should be ashamed of herself, and returned it.
Hope Kay Hagan prevails!

Greg,
Excuse my insistence on this bug, but it hampers navigation within the site. Here's a screen grab.

But, how will this interfere with Dole's nobel efforts to get the AIDS funding bill named for Jesse Helms? IMPORTANT BUSINESS!!!

Isn't that just the height of political idiocy? How can she look herself in the mirror? Seriously? It's disgusting that she's trying to do this.

We need to get rid of Liddy Dole. I live in NC, and I've heard more about her in the last month (relating to the race, and seeing her ad on TV) than in the last few years combined. Here, she's been all but invisible the last few years since being elected. I undertsand Hagan's campaign isn't all that effective (to date) but let's hope that Obama's powerful downticket influence helps her unseat Liddy.
BTW is it me or does Dole remind anyone else of Katherine Helmond's character in the film Brazil? Especially the face-stretching scene? Yikes.

As a resident of NC, I am very pleased to hear this! Elizabeth Dole is the very picture of a neocon partisan drone who does absolutely nothing but vote in complete lockstep with the dictates of her Bush/Cheney takmasters. I will be so happy to see her sorry ass booted out of the Senate!

Dole is such a complete waste of a Senate seat ; even for the GOP. Kay Hagan needs to get her campaign mojo in gear and she can take this seat. I am thrilled the money is coming into take this seat for the dems. I am also from NC and last night at the reception for Obama's opening for his Western NC campaign office the sentiment runs high to go after Dole as well! THIS IS GREAT NEWS!

After her foolish request to name an AIDS bill after Jesse Helms, this should be a piece of cake.
She deserves to lose and lose BIG.

LIEberman was the same way in CT before the DEM primary - invisible. It was only after he realized his condition - Lamont was a solid challenger - that he hit the airwaves - especially hard after he lost in the primary.
Of course, he also spouted lies, "..no one wants the troops to come home from Iraq more than I do.." like the best snake oil salesman. Expect Dole to go that route as well given the unfavorable status of the Iraq war.

Go Kay!!!
Even though I live in IL, this is one of the down ballot campaigns I donated to. Nothing to write home about but every little bit helps.
Aside from the fact that this would be huge symbolic pick-up, I can't stand Dole and would love to see her defeated.

I never had much against her. One time, oddly, I worked in a business where her credit card was declined. Not "invalid" which would indicate a mistake, but declined. A staffer later said they'd been "working" with the bank and were disappointed and they also tried to accuse us of some discourtesy or whatever but I wouldn't have it as I had done my homework on her order.
I was still neutral at worst toward her; I don't care anything about the foregoing. Then as I have said here before, I saw her shilling for Bush & Co. in the 2006 elections on Meet the Press. Republicans were going to win in every state, she explained, and though she hated to say it, the reason was because Dems were so tolerant and accepting of terrorists.
This loutish woman has no business holding office. She needs to be got rid of. Get lost, Elizabeth.
