National Dems Launch New Attack Ad In Oregon Senate Race
The DSCC is sinking some big TV ad money into the hard-fought Oregon Senate race, because national Dems think they need to hurry up and drag down GOP incumbent Gordon Smith's numbers before his own aggressive ad campaign succeeds in fortifying them.
So they've just released this fun new attack ad. Check it out:
"In Oregon, Gordon Smith will say anything to get elected," the announcer says -- a clear reference to Smith's pattern of running to the left during an election year, exemplified by his recent ad aligning himself with Barack Obama.

I don’t know if it will work.
Smith has integrity, and I think attacking it dilutes the primary message – he isn’t wanted in Oregon because he votes with Bush.
And why are they mentioning all the tax cuts? I don’t think Oregonians care if he cuts taxes, it sounds like a good thing.
Couldn’t they find issues where he was out of step with Oregon? Does he support stem cell research for instance?

I'm not sure what you mean there, Steve in Seattle. Gordon Smith is a guy who voted 95% of the time with Bush in the last Congress, and then he goes and puts out ads identifying himself with Barack Obama. He put his finger to the wind after the 2006 midterms and claimed that he was "one of the first to oppose the war", even though for years he voted for every single authorization bill in Congress. He doesn't have integrity, just a massive war chest. All Merkley needs is for Obama to do an ad with him and remind Oregon voters of who he really supports, and that may sink the good ship Gordon Smith.

Senator Gordon H. Smith has a lifetime voting record of voting against progressive positions over 80% of the time. See http://www.progressivepunch.org for detalis.
Our friends in the corporate media regularly incorrectly label Smith as a 'Moderate' when his record clearly shows him to be a rock solid recessivist/conservative. Altough a case can be made to suggest that Smith is not wholly the run of the mill knee-jerk fascist that most Republicans revel in being becuase he has a couple of pet projects, Smith remains the sory of backward ass jack_hole who is happy to shred all that is good and right in America.

Gordon Smith has zero integrity. He does not stand up for his beliefs, he obscures them and tries to confuse people about where he stands. Zero integrity.

I lived in Oregon when Gordon Smith was first elected. He is conservative douchbag who was beaten by democratic senator Ron Wyden in 1996. Then Hatfield retired, and Smith ran for his seat in a special election and unfortunately won. He is part of the rubberstamp Bush Senate and has been consistent in Republican obstructionist tactics favoring corporation, big oil, and basically anything that screws the human person of limited means. In our circles we referred to him as the "Evil" Smith to distinguish him from the other truly independent Oregon republicans and democrats. He did not get religion about the Iraq occupation until the writing on the wall right before the 2006 mid-terms. Oregonians please vote for Jeff Merkley. Pretty please with a cherry on top.
