McCain's Doctors: No Recurrence Of Cancer
John McCain got some good news today, with a skin biopsy showing no recurrence of skin cancer.
"Senator McCain visited the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, yesterday for a routine check of his dermatological health," said Michael Yardley, chair of public affairs at the Mayor Clinic, in a statement sent out by the campaign. "The biopsy that was performed did not show any evidence of skin cancer. No further treatment is necessary."

Arizona = skin cancer, I only lived there 8 years and have had several. The melanoma, however, is a big deal. I would not be surprised if that reappeared down the road, it is insidious in that regard, and there are no guarantees re: time frame. And then it is too late. Another McCain issue just brushed under the table.

...it does make his VP selection a lot more important than Obama's...

I don't want him to be president, but I'm glad he's okay.

Agreed, I'm happy for him and his family that this was benign. It does call attention to the 600 pound gorilla in the room that is apparent everytime one notes the areas on his face where he's already done battle with this.
His vice-presidential pick takes on a very high level of importance (and scrutiny) that could prove troublesome for him (especially if he picks Romney who the religious crackpot contingent doesn't like, or Bobby Jindal suffers a bimbo-eruption or some other corruption that's spread among the GOP like wildfire, etc.).
Bless his heart.

The problem is that we're not allowed to say a politician has cancer. It's not fair to the game. Even though every other white American who's reached a certain age and has a certain amount of health insurance gets spots removed all the time. It's different in an election.
(And even after an election; Ronald Reagan had two-feet of colon removed in 1985, and the press reported it as a tennis injury.)
You can't say the candidate is sick, especially a man like John McCain, who's been more dead than alive since the Roger Moore era of James Bonds.
Why? Because John McCain only has two issues:
1) Give Big Oil Everything They Want
2) Those Mean Reporters Like Obama Best
So the press is going to bend over backwards to not say perfectly obvious things about John McCain, like when he has a melanoma removed, or his mistress disappears.
And they won't say what everyone knows: That John McCain doesn't actually believe anything. He's just belligerent. And he's not a conservative, or a liberal, or a maverick, or a Hutterite, or anything much, philosophically, one way or the other. He's just the 2000 Year Old Prick.
A condition that appears to be malignant.

Does the no recurrence of cancer extend to Phil Gramm's presence on McCain's campaign?

On a human level, good for the Senator. Cancer's bad stuff and doesn't care about your party affiliation. Nor should we when it comes to anyone's health.
