Incoming: DCCC Reserves Ad Time For Its Whole Fall Offensive

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Dem party committee that has the most money in the bank, has now allotted practically all its available cash on hand for ad time this fall, with a Dem source providing us the latest list of ad reservations in swing districts throughout the country.

The latest list, which adds up to $17.6 million in 20 districts across the country, paints an extraordinary picture of just how grim the GOP's outlook is in House races: About three fourths of the money the DCCC is plunking down is going to races for seats that the GOP currently holds and now has to defend.

What's more, some of these districts where Dems are vying to knock off GOP incumbents are historically hostile territory for Dems, such as the open Second District in Alabama, or the Idaho seat now held by right-wing Rep. Bill Sali.

This comes on top of a previous round of ad reservations from a week and a half ago, which total-led over $34 million. In all, the Dems' spending on these House races adds up to nearly $53 million -- compared to just under $55 million in total ready cash according to their latest FEC filing.

In short, the Dems have now essentially budgeted for the whole season, with a playing field of about 50 seats -- a very wide map, and the vast majority of it is on offense.

It should be remembered that these reservations are not set in stone. Actual ad buys will be made later, and can be adjusted or even cancelled entirely depending on the perceived needs and priorities. But by making the reservations this early, the DCCC is able to maximize the amount of time they can get before the prices go up later on.

Fired up! Ready to go! Let's donate some more money to Obama!

Donate to the DCCC!

Donate to Obama, the DCCC, the DNC, and the DSCC!!

I really hope the presidential race ends with an electoral vote tie, just so it can go to the newly elected House and make the RNC look all the more stupid.

I really hope it doesn't.

I want a very clear mandate for Obama so that Congress cooperates and things get done.

Hey, ThatMarvelousApe, I hear Mrs. McCain wanted you to come around and visit her again sometime.

Infact, she's started rubbing a banana behind her ears during breakfast time.

So it's an advantage to fork the cash over now, so to speak, before ad time goes up when the new fall TV season gets underway.

Good on ya, DCCC.

this is great because we all know whats comming this fall

I am encouraged to see all three of my "home" districts listed this time: IL-10 (where I actually live), AZ-08 (Tucson, where I used to live), and IN-09 (where my parents live). I contributed individually to each of these races last time, and we won 2 out of 3. Hope we can make it a sweep this time.

Though I'm concerned that Giffords voted for that terrible FISA bill a couple of weeks ago.

Gee, maybe the DCCC isn't so bad after all. Nice to see action in several IL districts in this list. On the other hand, I think I'll still contribute individually (and through Al Franken's PAC and Russ Feingold's PAC).

A new internal poll from the Giffords campaign has her crushing GOP State Senate President Tim Bee in the fall. She leads 59% - 35%. An internal poll for GOPer Bee has him trailing 47% - 40%. She is in good shape.

It is amazing the so many GOP seats are in play this year. The generic ballot number for the GOP seems to be stuck in the mid to high 30% range which would mean they would probably finish with low 40's House popular vote in the actual election. If that happens you could see a DEM picup in the 20 - 30 seat range.

No love for IL-06?

*cries*

Maybe the DCCC feels like they did enough damage in the IL-06 last cycle. What has happened to Christine Cegalis, anyway? (Sorry, I wasn't paying any attention during the primaries -- did she even run?)

Is Morganthaler a worthy (progressive) candidate, or are we looking at another Melissa Bean?

Cegelis did not run in the primary. Morgenthaler was opposed by Stan Jagla, a retired Polish truck driver from Roselle who did not have much support.

Morganthaler is similar to Duckworth as far as I can see. The thing is, I don't think that a true progressive can win in the 6th, so I am supportive of conservative Dem candidates like Duckworth and Morganthaler.

I heard today that McCain used offensive language towards his wife a few years ago.
What I heard was really quite offensive - and I don't know how any woman or man for that matter could vote for McCain if true.

Does anyone have any links or information on this
which was purportedly said in public.
thanks

yes.

goethean no love for IL-13 and Scott Harper either. That doesn't mean it won't come. Remember despite what they say about Emanuel in the end he raised $120 million for our candidates in 2006 and spread that largesse out to 4 tiers. So far we're at $55 million in 2.

Regardless if the DCCC makes ads this time that hit the nat'l themes instead of the irrelevant self defeating micro targeted commercials they made for Duckworth last time Morganthaler and Harper should benefit also from broadcast ads for Foster and Seals.

CA-04 CA-11 Doolittle (R) - Open McNerney (D) $2.03M

This. Is. Huge!

Charlie Brown is making his second attempt for the uber-corrupt Doolittle's seat. He's retired Air Force & an all-around Good Guy. I heartily encourage any TPM'ers with a few extra bucks in their wallet to send a donation Charlie's way. That seat would/will be a HUGE gain for our caucus.

A WORD OF WANRING!

All the DCCC has done right now is reserve the ad time in these districts, this dose not mean that you will see ad in all of these districts, as circumstances changes so will the targeted districts.

I will send individual donations to select candidates -BUT unless and until Madam Speaker puts impeachment back on the table the DCCC can kiss my disgruntled money goodbye .
I did recently contribute another one hundred to Noriega - he will beat Cornyn - read 'em and weep "turdblossom-istas ..."

user-pic

Al I pretty much feel the same way you do. I'd much rather make individual donations and unless the DCCC shows some love to my favorite candidates I'll give directly to them myself.

Even if Dems impeached Bush or Cheney right out of the box in 2007 it still wouldn't get past the senate. Hopefully once they're out of office we can get still nail them though.

Damn I'd like to see Noriega take out Cornyn but he needs to gear up the fundraising. I've donated more to him than I have my own senator Durbin but he has to get it rollin.
