Group Responds To McCain Ad: Britney And McCain Both Heart Bush!
Here's a fun video response to McCain's Obama-Britney ad from ProgressiveAccountability.org, that third-party group that reconstituted from David Brock's old outfit...
The vid shows a well-known, and particularly vacuous, Britney moment where she professes undying trust in Bush, and pairs it with McCain offering a similar sentiment, if not quite as mindlessly.
Heh.

Awesome, get 'em with their own childish tactic.
Not Obama, of course...

Yeah, how many people will see this compared to the people that will see the RNC ad? This ad may get spread around left-leaning blogs and sites but that's it.

Fun, but not what's needed. Where the hell is the Obama media strategy? Some tips:

Thanks, but it's not brain surgery nor is it anything that hasn't been said a million times. I really am getting tired of waiting for this "disciplined" Obama campaign to attack the HUGE target that is McCain.

The problem is that Obama has bought into his own hype with this "Rise above" garbage. He's getting slandered and smeared and does nothing. I completely agree that the Obama camp treats McCain with too much reverence. He's attacking your honor for crissakes - and all you come back with is "John McCain is a hero but..." You're basically echoing his campaign talking point "McCain is a hero, he spent five years as a POW and thus deserves the Presidency"...

I'm confused by McCain bringing up Paris Hilton, given that he's the one that married a blonde, pill-popping, model, heiress who has a degree in Phys. Ed. and a private jet. If anyone in this campaign can be compared to Paris Hilton it's Cindy Lou McCain.

Is this Election Central or Muckracker. Election Muck Central Racker?.
Getting sick of all the highlights of the smear war on Obama. Issues please- Obama is in Missouri today. I'm sure he's said something you can cover.

This is an effective response.
If we can just make a collect and buy some air time...
Das and Jonze you still right about the Obama's campaign response: They should not confuse kindness with weakness.

Cute, and sure to be appreciated by the 14 people who will see it, versus the hundreds of thousands who will see the MCain ads on an endless loop courtesy of CNN and MSNBC. Against all odds, McCain has managed to throw Obama on the defensive, trying to explain why the smears in McCain's ads aren't true. Obama better get ahead of the rising tide of garbage, or the narrative will be set in cement by the time the conventions and debates roll around. I, personally, think its is probably too late - he needed his surrogates to slap McCain around a little while he was overseas last week.

Where are Obama surrogates? Does he have any? Do the networks pick which "surrogates" they want? Does Obama not allow surrogates, maybe wanting to control every word spoken?
Obama learned nothing from the Kerry campaign. He's not getting out front of this, he's letting it set in. I am so frustrated with him right now - wake the hell up and do something.
What is he doing with all of the money he is raising other than painting rainbows with his television ads?

It's nice that an outside group is making a cute response to the McCain ad, but who's going to see it?
And they could have made it a lot better by including shot of McCain hugging Bush.
And why the hell isn't that shot being used more? I get the sense that the Obama campaign is truly trying to stay above the methods of regular campaigning, but c'mon: the "uppity black guy" theme is now out there in the mainstream, and they haven't done anything to combat that.
I gotta say, I'm a little confused over how the Obama campaign is choosing to handle these ads.
And could someone please tell the "spokespeople" of the campaign that a longwinded (even if it's highminded) response just isn't going to do the trick?

I think the Obama campaign has decided to go the route of "appear Presidential" above all else.

One doesn't win the presidency by appearing presidential. One doesn't win by "appearing" -- one wins by fighting. Team Obama has shown precious little fight.

I think that it is totally fair to compare notes between two of the great political minds this country has to offer.
I hope that Obama is able to lure Ms. Spears onto his staff. If she keeps giving her great ideas to McCain, then Obama is in greater trouble than we thought.

So our choice this November is
a) a Britney Spears clone
or
b) a George Bush clone?
I really don't think this ad is worth getting upset about. If this is their Swift Boating '08, encourage more of it
Dana Milbank OTOH is a target of opportunity

Where do you draw the line between ignoring speciousness (Swiftboating)to your regret, and giving crap like this a little more fuel?
They were better at the instant smackdown in the primaries.

Obama's strategy is that he overestimates the intelligence of America as a whole if he thinks these ridiculous ads and charges are not going to stick and eventually cost him the election. Less than a hundred days out and he's not offering up an ardent defense.

Axlerod (on MSNBC, via The Page):
“It makes you wonder who’s behind all this because this isn’t the John McCain we expected.”
This is not the answer I expected. Now I have a legitimate reason for concern. But I don't think it's too late. The primary proved that they could be tough too, so let's hope for the best.

He's hitting McCain's maverick, straight talk image, and saying he's just another Karl Rove-George Bush lying Republican.
I hope the media airs this ad for free like they've been doing with all of John McCain's ads.
