GOP Congressman: We're Going To Bleed More Seats This Fall -- And That's Good!
How's this for hopelessness in the House GOP ranks: A Republican Congressman is not only predicting losses in this election and futures ones -- he's also saying it would be a good thing!
"I'm of the position that we really need to clean house in this Republican Party," Nevada Republican Dean Heller told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "And I think the next couple of election cycles are going to do that."
Heller isn't all doom and gloom, though. He thinks the Republicans will get the majority back within a decade.

I agree, let's get rid of all of them just to make sure . . .

He obviously doesn't understand how hard it is to unseat incumbents under normal circumstances.
But yes, let's get rid of them all, start a new Republican Party from scratch, with the platform of the mainstream Democratic Party, then, Progressive Democrats can be the new mainstream Democrats, and we can move the whole system a big jump to the left.
Sound good?

It doesn't sound like the new body politic leaves a lot of room for Swift Boat Veterans and Fox News-ers, now does it?! Pshawww!

Maybe he's one of the insiders who knows the plan. The Republicans have purposefully sought to ruin this country, financially. The next great depression is just around the corner, thanks to the confluence of deficit spending and demography. Greenspan, and now Bernanke, have had their fingers in the dike, trying to hold off the inevitable (while making it ultimately worse).
So their plan all along was to have Democrats firmly and clearly "in control" of the governement when the s**t finally hits the fan.
Then they get a two-fer: they can blame the Democrats for the second great depression, ensuring Republican majorities for the next 50 years, while they set about to dismantle all the social programs they hate (e.g. Social Security), under the guise of "saving" the country.
I'm telling you, that's their plan. (This guy almost let the cat out of the bag!!) The only question is, can we stop them?

They wanted the majority. They wanted the presidency. They wanted all the control to do it their way. Well, they got it, all of it, and look what they did. Disaster all around, and they have no one to blame.

they have no one to blame.
Ye of little faith. They always have someone else to blame for their mistakes. It's just by now no one believes them anymore.

Yea, that's it...We had to lose, so we could win with a better team. For the good of America.
...That's the ticket!

These are not normal times and Bush was not a normal POTUS. This was an eight-year nightmare wherein the President of the US did more damage to the country than a terrorist did.
The Republican Party needs the next ten years or so to regroup, to purge itself of the neocons and religious right radicals who used the Constitution as an aiming point in the executive washroom of the Oval Office. It needs to recover itself, find itself again, become the honest Conservative voice it had when Barry Goldwater served in the Senate. It needs to recover its respect for the privacy of the bedroom, the truth of science, the meaning of justice rather than politicized cronyism.
It will be painful but I hope the GOP does because I'm a liberal and I underestand how essential it is for a healthy liberalism to have a healthy conservatism.

Actually, considering the relative stupidity and short attention span of most Americans, Heller may be correct that the sucessors to the right-wing, corporatist thugs calling themselves 'Republicans' might well be back in charge within a decade. Only eternal vigilence stands between us and the possibilty of that hell-spawned future.

The Senate's not Congress?
Oh, wait -- did Dick Cheeney add the Senate to his own private branch of government? Did the barnacle hijack the ship?

And bleed they should. They have bled the rest of us dry already. I would die contented if I never saw another Republican majority in my lifetime. They have no idea how to govern. Maybe they will make a better opposition Party? Personally, I think the Democrats should be targeting many more districts than these. Split some of that money up and give to a few more Democrats. I want to see another Battle of the Little Big Horn - bodies scattered all over the ground.
