Elizabeth Dole Dumps $10K Of Indicted Stevens' Money. Will Other GOP Senators Follow?
Now that Senator Ted Stevens has gotten indicted, one big question is this: Will all the GOP Senators and Senate candidates dump the contributions he's given them?
We now have the first reported case of a Republican Senator getting rid of such money: Sen. Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina, who is facing a well-funded challenge from Democrat Kay Hagan.
Campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley just told Election Central that the campaign has written a $10,000 check -- the amount Dole has received this cycle from Stevens' leadership PAC -- to the Society of St. Andrew.
Stevens' PAC has donated to every incumbent GOP Senator seeking re-election this year. That's one down. Will others follow?

I don't really understand why Dole felt the need to give the money away. Did she feel that the money came from crooked dealings or that it was somehow tainted?

I understand when people wanted to dump Delay's money because of his laundering scam, but was Steven's PAC money tainted in a similar way? If Dole (or anyone else) kept the money, would the implication be that she is somehow complicit in his illegal activity? Or is this so much window dressing that, somehow, it just wouldn't be "proper" to keep the money? I'm guessing the latter.

Complete and utter disassociation. It doesn't matter where the money came from.
They're dropping ol' Ted like a hot rock. (At least until Bush pardons him, pre-emptively. Heh.)

Well, that just saddens me, 'cause I know Libby could have used that money to rehabilitate the reputation of Jessie Helms!

Perhaps if one of these politicians actually gave tainted money anonymously to a 501c3 which didn't dwell in their district, I would hail them. As it is, there is a big press release when these crooks buy votes... I mean give the tainted money to voters in their own districts.
Remember Bush received illegal abramoff money and should have turned it over to the DOJ, but gave it to a couple of nonprofits.
Receiving stolen money and not returning it is a crime where I come from. Pelosi and the rest of the democrat clowns supporting this regime have decided laws no longer pertain to them, their friends, and the other important folks in Washington, though... IMHO

Damn you, Official A. Damn you, thick cut bacon. Damn you all to hell!

Liddy Dole took a axe and gave poor Teddy 10,000 wacks.
Perhaps Ted can suggest to the rest of the malfeasants in his Party to donate to his legal fund . . . Or perhaps the DNC . . .

Kay Hagan’s U.S. Senate campaign again called on Elizabeth Dole to return the $21,000 of indicted Senator Ted Stevens’ dirty money she has received. Hagan Communications Director Colleen Flanagan released the following statement.

It's nice to hear *something* at long last out of the Hagan campaign. I live 30 miles or so from her home base, and the silence is deafening. She'd better get to work soon if she really wants to contest this race. Coattails alone aren't going to cut it.

Scott: Please direct Kay to attack Dole for waiting on returning Stevens money until the indictments came down. She certainly accepted his money thruout the period he was under investigation! Also, why not attack Dole for her reversal on off-shore drilling and take a stand. This certainly is an issue here in NC for our envirnoment along the coasts! Driling our way out of the gasoline pricing issue is not the answer. Kay needs to be a leader here! Kay will need to get Dole on the defensive and keep her there....

Whenever I hear about Republicans "donating" dirty money to "charity" I'm reminded that part of the Abramoff scandal was he set up fake charities, didn't he??

Coleman was on NPR this morning refusing to return the PAC money, despite Franken calling on him to do so.
