DNC And Obama Total Cash On Hand: $92 Million
The Democratic National Committee raised $22, 481,194 in June, spokesperson Karen Finney says.
The DNC's cash on hand total $20, 306,056.
That puts the total combined Obama and DNC cash in the bank at over $92 million -- very competitive with the GOP/McCain total of nearly $100 million.
Late Update: Our pal Instaputz has a good point about the faulty media coverage of Obama's fundraising.

Good to see fundraising pick up for the DNC. Chuck Todd made the interesting point that down-ticket fundraising is terrible for the GOP but strong for the Dems, so you have to think that in total the Dems will have more money to invest in the election, something that will have strong effects both up and down the ticket.

This is great. I know several of us here helped with this so pat on our backs too.

So the WSJ pulls its facts and figures out of its ass. The trash who form the staff of its opinion section have polluted the rest of the newspaper.
Why doesn't the WSJ just sell itself to, I don't know, Rupert Murdoch?
Ha. Ha. Ha.

Yes, when you read Instaputz, the point you come away with is those inaccurate statements on Obama's fundraising from several media sources actually is their response to the Obama campaign being UNWILLIGLY to divulge what their funds are. The media has to write something so they print up speculation, hoping to spur rebuttals from the Obama campaign to get an answer from their question.
The Obama campaign though..gets an even smarter answer...anyone talking about numbers doesn't know the numbers.
What more do we need to hear to no longer specualate about the campaigns fundraising. We all should recognize if the Obama campaign is not being quoted on numbers...then the person who is DOESN't know the numbers.
O how the Clinton supporters/surrogates and anti-Obama folks hate that.
I love confidentiality. I am impressed with the tight ship Obama is running.
Even though they are trying to turn this strength into a negative by claiming he is like GWBush...I could not beleive Chuck Todd said that this morning...that Obama is like Bush because he keeps confidence and loyal folks around him.
What a damning remark given the total nefarious reasons that the Bush administration did that. But hey, what should we expect?
The McCain camp is now saying Obama is like Bush, so it is up to pundits like Todd to spin that talking point just like a McCain supporter.
Umbelieveable..how they turn strengths into deficits.
O yes and that was another deficit they gave Obama 'you get the sense he can't feel others pain'
These character attacks are astonishing and I can tell they are going to take a toll...just like all innuendo, rumors and smears do...no substance but just a 'suspicion' that hangs like a cloud over his candidacy to make folks feel they don't know him and feel his 'otherness'

I wonder if some of the misinformation that was floated, esp. re: the lack of $$ support from some of the Hillary holdouts, was done on purpose so that when the numbers did come out, they and everyone else could see that Obama was able to get it done without them and who exactly was NOT responsible for that success.

It doesn't hurt that he has all 3 of the networks on his love train either...

That rightwing media is sooooooooo unfair!

The media knows that Obama is making history. Since when have networks not covered history making events.
Until we actually see how there write up and analysis in print and broadcast we willnot be able to judge how balanced the coverage was.
One thing we do know there are already nasty scurrilous rumors out about this trip. No one said a friggin word when McCain went there about him being a hot shot.
Perhaps, that is because they know he is an old decrepid fossil who has shot his wad. Nothing but a MCP masquerading as a warrior.

And half of that coverage is about how he's having trouble winning over whites, or how Jackson said he wanted to cut his nuts off, or about a magazine cover, or about Michelle talking about $600 earrings, or about perceived flip-flops, or pandering to the center, or about how he may have fundraising problems (he didn't),etc., etc. Yes, he gets more coverage because of the historic nature of his campaign, but it's far from being all positive coverage. I'd bet the Obama campaign wouldn't mind if they were a bit less under the magnifying glass.
And the McCain campaign might not be too happy if they get what they wish for. More media focus on angry, gaffe prone, McCain speaking to half-empty halls probably wouldn't work out well for them.

Whooo, whoo. The love train is leaving the station. However, I am sure they will still be riding the "straight talk express," while overseas and repeating mcbush's talking points at every stop. They like that ride much better than the love train.

And the good news keeps coming. I love little oversights like, "oops, my bad, we actually have $92 Million cash on hand".
I wish my accountant would make such mistakes...

Why does David Ploffe say in this mornings email that the DNC and Obama campaign have a total of $72 M on hand?
July 17, 2008 10:45 AM | Reply | Permalink
Cause it doesn't include the DNC money---another $20 million.

Here's a question. Just between us, what's the deal with calculating this all as RNC + JM versus DNC + BO, rather than just JM / BO?
Are the RNC and DNC actually going to blow all their cash on the presidential race? I would assume not.
So is this way of calculating possibly a strategy to keep us feeling a little edgy, and keep the money flowing? If so, great -- I promise not to tell, and I promise to keep giving. But just between us . . . what are the facts of the matter?

I wondered about that too. And as for feeling edgy, I don't like it. All that "crying wolf at the door" stuff makes me angry. Still, I will keep on giving and raising money for Obama.
Going to a friend's house just north of Minneapolis, next week, to a fund-raising art-auction. Some of my stuff will be auctioned as well as other people's stuff. Should be a bit of money for Obama. We all do what we can. I just don't like the games.

Thanks -- the art auction sounds like a wonderful idea. I don't like feeling edgy either. But . . . I have to admit that I do give more when I'm worried.

I have had the exact same question. The RSCC and RCCC are really hurting for money. And the RNC is just going to abandon them and put all their eggs in to the McCain basket??
I also wondered if them not commenting on the June numbers was used to fuel July anxiety and giving. I know I gave even more after the WSJ speculation came out..even though I knew the number hadn't been confirmed.

You know, I gave again when I read the $30MM number.
You're probably right.

Well, even though the dems are a little behind, we all know how frugal and smart obama is at spending campaign funds. His campaign has been brilliantly run and the fact that he has nearly 100 million is excellent. Based on how the republicans have been running their train wreck, it's as if he has double the money of the republicans. I was worried at all the rumors and the fact that the numbers weren't released. Now I am dancing. Awesome!

That is great. I've read were McCain raised $22 million an the RNC had about $95 million
July 17, 2008 12:21 PM | Reply | Permalink
That's a little off.
McCain raised 22 million in primary funds and has 27 million cash on hand. He has to spend all of that cash by the end of his convention in early September.
The RNC has about 68 million cash on hand. All of that money can be spent now or in the fall.
Combined the McCain campaign and the RNC has about 95 million cash on hand at the end of June. So Obama campaign and the DNC have almost equal funds on hand as the GOP with 92.3 million.

The "Obama is like Bush" meme is laughable and McCain can run with that all the way to November. Nobody is going to believe that nonsense, especially when McCain gets asked point blank in a debate (maybe by Obama himself) to explain precisely how his policy positions differ from Bush policies on substantive issues.

True enough for now, but if Obama keeps up his current trend of changing his already centrist positons to appeal more the right such as FISA and the faith based nonsense, that distinction will begin to fade away. So I hope he's done Republicanizing himself for the duration.
