Dem Senate Candidate's New Ad Sends Washington Insiders Through Car Wash
Check out this fun new ad from Mark Begich, the Dem candidate running against ethically-challenged GOP Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, depicting Begich sending dour men meant to be Washington politicians through a car wash:
The ad is consistent with Begich's strategy so far: Talking about ethics and hitting unnamed crooked politicians in Washington, without directly mentioning Stevens or his specific investigations just yet.

Nice ad - if he only lost the 70s porn soundtrack, then it would be perfect.

Need to put McCain through that with a bar of soap to clean out his mouth after what he called his wife.

I love this ad--it's funny, and thus memorable, and it gets the point across.

Yes, I used to live in Alaska and still have kids and grandkids living there. Alaska used to be a Republican stronghold since a few years after statehood, but alas, the House and Senate Republicans from Alaska have ended up being real criminals and Republicans there are perplexed about not having any Republican they can vote for.

Begich won't win - I think he's setting himself up to challenge Don Young for the U.S. Rep spot in the future. (Young has REAL problems due to his tarnishment of Alaska via the 'bridge to nowhere' that no one in Alaska asked for).
The polling showing Stevens down is flawed - the differences between the urban vs. rural/remote constituencies is massive. Stevens consistently votes pro-union, pro-oil & pro-military spending, (all of which go hand-in-hand in Alaska's political landscape).
Besides - Anchorage mayors are notoriously mediocre, all Begich has is some ethical soapbox going for him. Alaskans always reserve judgement on these matters until someone is convicted. Stevens got some favors, but there is no evidence he sold his vote for them. Stevens has consistently voted in the best interest of Alaska. He's also the loudest and most passionate about opening ANWR - Alaskans won't give up his seniority in the Senate without a fight.

I'm disappointed to say I haven't been impressed with Begich at all. In his NRN interview with DK, he seemed very uninspired. And in this ad, he comes across as very stiff. Dunno if I'd say notoriously mediocre, but not exactly top shelf.

Golly do you live in Alaska. My kids, Republicans all find this election a no-brainer since both Young and Stevens are so tainted with malfeasance. They were all born in Alaska btw. They say they might just stay home but they are definitely not voting for the crooks, and they say there is plenty of evidence to show just how crooked both of these guys are. In fact they are livid that they have not been charged and held accountable. One is a personal friend of Young also but still says she cannot support him at all, even so with the available evidence.

Born and raised in Alaska here. Young is reviled - Stevens got some home remodeling favors by the infamous Veco, but no evidence he sold his votes for it, (none I've seen yet anyway). Sometimes a favor is just a favor - not always wise but also not always corrupt.
Stevens' son Ben is the one who has the evidence of corruption stacked against him, (related to Western Alaska fisheries & oil tax rates) - I've yet to hear anything that implicated Ted in either.
I think people are lumping all Republicans as automatically corrupt - I choose not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
The corruption in Alaska lies within the legislation passed regarding the proposed natural gasline construction and tax rates for oil production - not exactly Ted's domain.
Young on the other hand demonstrated greed and malice with the Coconut Road deal in Florida in exchange for truly pork projects like the bridges to nowhere in Ketchikan and the Knik Arm via the Transportation spending bill.
Just because Alaskans would like to keep their jobs (which are mainly in oil and infrastructure construction) doesn't make them greedy. No ones seems to be slamming Delaware for having lax credit card laws therefore creating a magnet for predatory credit card companies?
Wouldn't you rather have domestic oil & gas provide jobs for Alaskans (who happen also to be Americans?)
Begich is trying to ride the Obama coattails - I think it's very very likely Alaska will go Obama in November.
McCain treats Alaska like a redheaded stepchild. He sought the endorsement of televangelists while still claiming moralistic environmentalism to prevent any exploration of ANWR.
McCain is also a bigtime union buster and Alaska is a heavily unionized state. The only Alaska issues EVER mentioned by McCain are 'bridges to nowhere' and never opening ANWR to oil exploration. He doesn't get it.

A wise man once told me..."If you think the Congressman is a jerk, get to know the morons who voted him into office." Alaskans appear to be a bit slow and greedy for that oil kick-back.
