Bloody Republican Vs. Republican Fratricide In Top House Race

There's been yet another bizarre turn in the GOP's eternal quest to find a candidate for the key House seat in New York's 13th district, which is expected to be one of this fall's most hotly-contested races.

The latest: The GOP has finally found someone to make the race, former Assemblyman Robert Straniere -- but one of the state's most prominent Republicans is vowing to destroy his candidacy!

"I'm going to do everything in my power to stop him," said former Rep. Guy Molinari, who used to represent the area and is one of the biggest GOP names in New York, in an interview with Election Central. "And if that means defeating him and a Democrat wins, that's okay, too. I would rather have someone that's honest and would do what's right for the country, than support him."

"He lies about everything," Molinari later added. "How do you pick a man like that to go to Congress?"

Molinari pointed out that Straniere lost renomination to his Assembly seat in 2004 after 24 years of service, casting serious doubt on his electability. On top of that, he accused Straniere of continuing to squat in a house for a year after he sold it, ultimately having to be evicted.

"We've made a big mistake," Molinari said. "A terrible mistake."

In an interview with Election Central, Straniere declined to discuss Molinari's accusations against him: "I will use my best efforts to meet with Guy and anyone else to put together a winning campaign. No animosity towards anybody."

And yet . . .

... the very same strategy seemed to work for our current president.

He lies about everything.  How do you pick a man like that to go to Congress?

Sounds like a perfect qualification for a Republican representative to Congress.

Well if you are a Republican isn't lying about everything a prerequisite?

Cuz goodness knows no Democrat has ever lied...

"When Clinton Lied,

Nobody Died."

the point that the sarge is making: Truthiness does not solely belong to any one party.

I must have missed it, where in those comments did anyone say Democrats never lie?

The point you seem to have missed is about hypocrisy, not about "holier than thou." Republicans impeached a president while talking piously about how lying about a personal indiscretion is a high crime, then elected an administration that lied to start a war and continues to lie constantly, and now we have a former congressman declaring another Republican is unfit because of lying. While that may be true the fact that he hasn't spoken up about any other Republicans for the past seven years suggests there may be some additional reason.

You've actually got a point there, SFC... It's just funnier if you leave the party out of it.

Here, let me try:

"He lies about everything," Molinari later added. "How do you pick a man like that to go to Congress?"

Er, isn't that a job requirement?

why is molinari being so redundent ???

we can see the "R" beside his name

we know he lies about everything

is this a logic trap, like we saw in that episode of star trek ???

is this a cheap attempt to make our heads explode ???

a known liar, telling us that another known liar is a liar

s
wouldn't that mean that molinari's repuglitard credentials are revoked

after all, the man told the truth ...

"He lies about everything," Molinari later added. "How do you pick a man like that to go to Congress?"

I'm sorry, this is too easy.

How do you pick a republican that doesn't fit this description?

"Your logic is impeccable, Captain. We are in grave danger."

This seat is cursed. It will never go Republican again. Nobody Republican will ever again want to run for this seat after:

1. Candidate A gets girlfried pregnant, buys abortion, quits race when scandal is uncovered.
2. Candidate B drops out preemptively.
3. Candidate C announces bid.
3b. Candidate C's son, Candidate D, announces bid in an attempt to destroy his father's political career and prevent candidate C from holding office.
3c. Candidate C suddenly dies.
4. Candidate D anounces, only to be immediately bashed as a complete liar by a leader of his own state party.

No Republican will ever again want to run for Staten Island's accursed 13th. (13? Even the number is cursed.)

Thanks for reminding me how utterly bizarre the race for this seat has been. I only remembered the father son bit.

Our nation is accursed.

By rethuglicans. May they all serve the time they deserve.

On top of that, he accused Straniere of continuing to squat in a house for a year after he sold it, ultimately having to be evicted.

That part has to be a great story. I wanna hear from the guy who bought the house and couldn't move in for a year. I'll bet he's a big fan.

abotron this is wrong:

1. Candidate A gets girlfried pregnant, buys abortion, quits race when scandal is uncovered.

It should read:

1. Candidate A has one family on Staten Island and another in DC. Candidate A gets busted for DUI and tells cops he's on his way to see his daughter of (family #2) and makes the papers for not only the DUI but family #2. Candidate A vows to stay in race. Candidate A is forced out of race.

I love politics. It's like going to a zoo, only not as safe for the spectators.

If Straniere is an enemy of Molinari, he's automatically a friend of mine. At the risk of letting politics get local, Molinari and D'Amato were the vilest pair of scheming shits that ever oozed when they slid, during the years when they pulled their pandering bullshit on behalf of Staten Island, fucking around with Holland Tunnel toll patterns for the sake of Staten Islanders on the Verrazano Bridge. I know, it's a molecular story of no interest to those outside NYC, but those of us who had to deal with it and fight back will never forget. The only fun was the culture wars between all the jaded art/Euro-trash SoHo denizens and the big haired gumchewers from Staten Island. Things got so bad that the Community Boards insisted on separate meetings.

All you need to know is that Guy Molinari is a scheming criminal. If he says black, I say white.

SOS ICEBERG I understand Reagan didn't much like his Veep's oldest son. Doesn't mean they weren't both assholes.

Molinari is a major sleazeball who has been corrputing NYC politics for decades, but if he feels that way about the Republican candidate, that candidate won't win. Molinari has controlled Staten Island politics for decades and it is impossible for a Republican to win with that kind of opposition from him.
