Senior Obama Aide: No Expectation That Group Of Senators Will Endorse Him Today
Yesterday a bunch of uncommitted Senators met to decide whether -- and how -- to go public with their choice in the Dem primary, stirring a bunch of speculation that a group of them would endorse Barack Obama as a bloc today.
But a senior Obama aide tells me that there's no expectation in the Obama campaign that Senators will endorse him in any kind of group today.
This isn't to say that individual Senators won't announce their support for Obama throughout the day today. They very well may, though it seems more likely that Senators will be loath to do this, preferring instead to give Hillary breathing room to exit the race gracefully.
Either way, Obama advisers aren't expecting any bloc of Senate endorsements today.

C'mon, superdels. We need what - 15? 20? in conjunction with the pledged delegates we're going to pick up today. Please make it so Barack can announce victory tonight, or you'll be proving that you're all spineless weasels.

Exactly. I'm tired of these superdelegates. Shit or get off the pot.

They must have some major constipation. They should have taken care of business three months ago.

Oh! On CNN it says from AP: BREAKING NEWS Official say clinton will admit tonight Obama has delegates for nom.
Love it love it love it!

Could be the Superdelegates in the Senate are afraid that if they endorse Obama so much as five minutes before the polls close in Montana, they'll be accused by Clinton supporters of trying to push her out of the race before the primary season has ended . . . which is entirely possible given that campaign's mood swings this year.

"Exit gracefully"? Graceful is not a word that I would associate with the clintons. They will take it to the convention. Let's just get it over with already.

I agree with your point on "graceful" which makes me think that she'll go dormant this week, quietly biding her time and working on the SD's until August when she'll execute her final offensive on the convention floor. She's in it until the last gavel comes down.

Exactly, Clinton and graceful is an oxymoron, just like Clinton and playing by the freakin' rules.

You goddamn idiots! SHE IS NOT PLANNING ON EXITING UNTIL YOU MAKE HER!!! She has made that painfully clear. Her campaign has been saying the same thing for weeks now, if not months, they will NOT stop until there is a nominee, and THAT requires you spineless superdelegates to get off your asses and put an end to this thing! We'll be in this damn thing until August if the supers are waiting for Hillary to "exit gracefully" (like graceful loser is in her vocabulary) and Hillary is waiting for supers to clench it for Obama before exiting.
GROW SOME BACKBONES, FINISH THIS!!

Seriously, expect a few more months of this shit if you "give her time to exit gracefully":

SHAME ON THEM FOR BEING SPINELESS!
Giving Hillary even ONE MORE DAY is ridiculous! She could have suspended her campaign a month ago and STILL been available if something terrible happened to Obama or his campaign.
We've given her EVERY inch -- it's time to support your nominee - TODAY!
June 3, 2008 10:08 AM | Reply | Permalink
Emphasis on "today." Tomorrow will be another story.
June 3, 2008 10:09 AM | Reply | Permalink
Yep, tomorrow will be another day, as long as tonight's joy is thwarted. Thanks for nothing, Hillary.
For today, Hillary, in all her telegraphed narcissistic need, will try to make sure that Obama's rally tonight has its triumph stolen and that the Democratic Party gets further jerked away from its needed general election momentum.

WTF is this exit gracefully BS? What the hell else has to happen for her to do this. There are no more contests. This race has been over since February. She has had a THREE MONTH grace period and she has used it to be as destructive and divisive and polarizing as possible. Is this party really so inept and stupid that it's going to give her even MORE time to do MORE damage to the party and the nominee? I CANNOT STAND this weak, spineless s**t anymore. And the Clintons know that the Dems are this pathetic and are using manipulating everyone they can for their own purposes which is to make sure Obama is as WEAKENED as possible. They are doing EVERYTHING they can to keep him from geeting a strong jump start for the GE. And, rest assured, they will be sabatoging and undermining him the whole way. Anything any of them says about supporting the party or the nominee is a LIE and we need to get that through our heads ASAP!!

NOTE: According to MSNBC, Sens Schumer, Boxer, and others will be hosting a 10:30 am (EDT) news conference this morning. If they aren't going to announce their endorsements, then what are they going to announce? Seems like a bizarre time for a news conference unless it relates on some level to the superdelegates and the future of the campaign.

We junkies are now counting every second of every minute today; measuring every comment by or about SDs to figure out what's happening. But we all need to try to relax and distract ourselves (I know, fat chance). It will happen tonight, he will cross the line and be the clear winner of the primary race.
Tomorrow, Thursday & Friday will really open the SD floodgates. Yes, it's ridiculous that we have to watch the party tiptoe around the Clintons' egos for a few more days. But remember - Barack's the nominee as of tonight. No matter what Hillary does.
Make it a 3 martini lunch if you need help getting through the day. You've earned it.

When will my Senators, Feinstein and Boxer, change their minds, as Hillary reminds us that Super Delegates do, to support Obama.
In some ways California is so backwards . . .
Sigh.

This 10:30 news conference will be revealing. Do you think they will be telling other superdelegates to cool their heels for a couple more days? Could they possibly go out and make the case for Clinton? I'm very curious, if only to see how low this group can sink.

Well she set this all up so that everyone has to be so very careful to avoid upsetting Hillary and Bill and their supporters that it is going to be anti-climactic no matter what and that's thanks to Hillary.
*sigh*

You are so dead on. God forbid anyone upset Hillary or her followers. She keeps talking about how tough she is yet everyone has to treat her with kid-gloves. If this was John Edwards do you think everyone would be acting like this? It's ridiculous.
Tonight should be all about Obama and his supporters being able to celebrate - instead she will, as usual, make it all about herself.

SCREW HIM AND HIS LEFTIST SUPPORTERS!!
We don't need them... They need US but we don't need them!
RUN AS AN INDEPENDENT!!
She could take the Presidency as an independent candidate!
Plenty on both side of the aisle WANT Hillary!!

To those who continue to want to call Sen Clinton names (only further offending her supporters), keep one thing in mind:
HILLARY CLINTON WILL **NOT** BE OUR NOMINEE
I find I can become pretty calm and rational, and even polite, when I think of that. In truth, it's only starting to sink in.
June 3, 2008 11:10 AM | Reply | Permalink
First off, let me self identify as a die-hard, white, Obama supporter who has donated several hundred dollars to put my money where my mouth is.
Second, while I don't think either Clinton is personally racist, they have certainly allowed very very high level supporters to make essentially racist arguments. So, I no longer have much use for either of them.
That said, come on people, lay off the undeclared Super Delegates for a few days.
I completely understand why many have avoided public declarations. Namely, setting aside how Hillary and some of her supporters might react, I can almost guarantee that had a few hundred SDs pushed Obama over the top a couple months ago, the media would have portrayed it as if they were trying to push her out, regardless of what those who hadn't voted might want. Worse, the very independent voters who both parties need in order to win in the fall would have reason to think that perhaps Obama was selected in the proverbial "smoke-filled back room".
It has been a painful process getting to the finish line. However, that pain has been caused almost exclusively by the Clinton campaign's many tentacles.
Now, regardless of whether we think Clinton or her campaign have any grace, WE, the Obama supporters, need to act with grace. That means taking our cue from our candidate and his campaign. Quiet patience. This screeching at the SDs is exactly the opposite of the kind of new approach to politics Obama stands for.
Chill people. We'll get to pop the bubbly soon enough.

These supers are abunch of cowards.
I dont understand what the hell they're waiting for.
Seriously. What more information could you possibly need? Certainly after a 6 month process and a 56 or 57 contest race, they ought to be able to make a decision.
I guess they don't really care about how bad it will look when unelected superdelegates but obama over the top instead of elected pledged delegates.
This is ridiculous. I really don't get it. I know some of them have constituencies and what not but cmon! This thing is over. I cant imagine any one out there being upset because their congresspersons or senator recognized reality.
I guess its officially clear. Superdelegates have no spines and can't be trusted to make an important decision like who should be the next president.
One other thing. Haven't all these Supers VOTED in their states contest?
Why don't they just support the person publicly that they voted for privately? Sure some of them would go to hillary, but enough of them would go to obama in order to make it so that pledged delegates put him over the top and not unelected "super" delegates.
UGH.
Cowards.

First off, I am VERY pro-Obama. I donated and volunteered, and have been for Obama since his speech at the 2004 Convention. So don't flame me.
But we are going to have a bit of a problem with the party machinery between now and November, and it isn't just a Hillary issue.
Thanks stemper for the link to yesterday's WaPo article. It makes a good point, that elected officials have to cover their asses too, and if they live in a strongly pro-Hillary district or state it is in their best interest to remain silent.
Another point to consider is that while the SDs may think change is a good message to run on, it threatens their position in the party heirarchy. Change is good unless your the ones on top, because there is only one way to go. Obama needs to impress on them that not playing the same old Washington game can benefit them as well, which will not be easy.
I would love to see Obama get to 2118 tonight or tomorrow, but I'm not sure he will. It might take a while. We, as democratic VOTERS, may have to hold the party together until they, as democratic OFFICIALS, climb on board after his victory in November.
Barack trusted us to fund his campaign, let's take it one step further and execute his campaign for him this fall. It's on us now.
