Obama Nabs A Super-Delegate -- Countdown Begins

Obama could, in the next couple of days, win over enough super-delegates to be able to clinch the new magic number of 2,118 delegates on Tuesday night.

And despite Hillary's win in Puerto Rico yesterday, Obama gets an early start this morning, rolling out the support of DNC member Jerome Wiley Segovia of Virginia.

According to his campaign's count that puts him 45 away from clinching the nomination.

***Clearing Throat****

Update: Nancy Dinardo from Connecticut just endorsed Barack Obama

gotta interupt, but time to change the mantra in the name of grace and reconcilliation.

This is terrible....terrible news for McCain!!

Raise a glass to the demise of the GOP in 2008.

I see on my comcast homepage that the goalposts have shifted again. Now they're back to the "superdelegates can change their minds" talking point. Uh, yeah, I'm sure they're all going to rush to jump on board, Hillary.

They can and they will. Unfortunately they won't be moving in her direction....

Exactly. I think I've seen ONE Obama SD switch to Hillary, and that was a guy who originally was a Hillary SD, switched to Obama, then a couple of weeks later switched back to Hillary. (What up with that?)

The guy from the VI, who switched from Obama to Hillary, had just a day or two BEFORE been a Hillary super delegate. There was speculation that it was done as a "narrative" to suggest that super delegates were scared and changing their minds about Senator Obama. No super delegate who endorsed Senator Obama from jump has abandoned him so far.

And the guy who did it, Kevin Rodrigues, sound like a real piece of work, too. When asked why he switched (again) he said: "I decided to switch because that's my right," he told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "I don't want to say why I decided."

While ol' Kevin didn't feel like saying why, a the chair of the VI dem party suspected some funny business: "At this desperate crunch time, anything should be expected, especially when political persuasions, promises and offers are made," said Cecil Benjamin, adding that he had no proof that Rodriquez was being pressured to change his vote.

Saw another report about his stonewalling a FOIA request for nearly a year in his role as the HR person for the VI government, before deciding he didn't have to comply, at which point he was ordered to.

While I wouldn't completely discount the possibility of some exemplar "narrative" purpose, I think it's more likely that Kevin went shopping for a better deal and got it from camp Hillary. Strapper.

2 to 0. That's 44 to go.

And he just picked up 5 more delegates from Puerto Rico. 39 to go (though MSNBC is reporting 38.5).

Super delegates should weigh in BEFORE Tuesday's primary in Montana and South Dakota.

The polls are showing Barack Obama currently leading in those two states; but even if he were to tie with Hillary, he would only get around 15 delegates total. This means he needs at least 33 super delegates to put him over the top.

In the interest of UNITY, at least 30-35 super delegates need to endorse Barack Obama by tomorrow night. This would allow the STATES to be ones pushing Obama over the required 2118 DNC rules count for the nomination.

Surely out of about 200 undeclared supers, 30-35 are willing to allow the States of South Dakota and Montana push Obama to the Democratic nomination?

These people would not only be helping Obama win, they would 'put excitement' in the states of South Dakota and Montana -- we normally do not win these States during a general election -- perhaps doing this would give them reason to vote Democrat in November.

So, come on supers -- let the States be the ones to be reported as having handed Barack Obama the nomination -- not the super delegates!!!

I'm Ultraman and I approved this message.

Oops, hit send before finishing:

More seriously, I agree that it would be a much better public relations move for the Obama campaign to be put over the top by actual voters in actual states rather than by the supers. Let's hope that's what happens.

The smart thing for the SDs to do is to start breaking rather rapidly today and tomorrow so that the voters can put Obama over the top tomorrow night. I'm certain they are aware of the symbolic importance of the timing, so I'm hopeful they will have the fortitude to do it.

user-pic

One would think they'd go ahead and do it, if for no other reason than to stop her nagging phone calls.

No kidding. Clinton's campaign is the equivalent of the walking undead at this point. Someone should get a wooden stake and a hammer stat.

Greg:

It's TWO SDs - not just one.

Please update your headline. :)

Wolfson:

"What people don't realize is that our approach with the superdelegates is very calulated," confided Wolfson. "We're like the long-distance runner who lets his opponent get ahead, then we kick it in at the last moment.

"We've run an honorable campaign, taking the high road at all times. In the end, the superdelegates will reward Sen. Clinton's superior character, her presidential bearing, and flood to her. Our unassailable popular vote victory proves that Sen. Clinton is the right choice."

Do you have a link for that?

I was just goofing around. But since everything he says is absurd, it's hard to satirize him. This is something he might actually say.

user-pic

Was he wearing a pair of panties on his head when he made this statement?

LOL. Thanks for making me spit coffee on my keyboard. The image of Wolfson-as-Gumby is spot on perfect. My brain hurts, indeed!

How many lies do you count in that paragraph. I'm thinking 6, but it could be more.

I count seven lies:

1) she's waged an honorable campaign
2) she's taken the high road
3) The superdelegates will reward her
4) she has a superior character to Barack Obama
5) she has anything approaching Presidential bearing
6) she has a popular vote victory
7) she's the right choice for Prez.

That leaves out prepositions and conjunctions, but not much else.

Black is white! Day is night! Hillary is winning people!

I'm hoping that was parody.

Nevermind. Just saw that it was.

Coffee....need more coffee.....

I am sure that the Super Delegates are weighing in their minds whether to cast their lot with one of two potentially insane dictators who will owe them a favor OR the fact that they will have to spend the rest of their lives having their food tasted and constantly looking behind them.

The flow of S.D.'s will slow beyond a trickle until after Obama nails the last one needed to hit the magic number of the week. These folk at this point do not care about the potential harm to the chance of getting getting a DEM in the White House . . . They are weighing reward against death for themselves and their loved ones.

Trying to catch up, so I decided to turn on Morning Joe (knowing that Joe on paternity leave is the only reason why I decided to view the program.) Anyway, what is up with Mika Brezinsky? She's just dogging that church thing trying to make it a "big story". I know her brother works on the McCain campaign(which is a conflict of interest right there) and her father I assume is no longer advising Obama's campaign. Well she seems to be taking that popularity some of you have bestowed on her a little too far. She just said she didn't care about what the viewer’s emails she's going to voice her opinion. Hmm...Isn’t she supposed to be an objective "journalist"? Yeah right! LOL

And she seems to be visibly upset that Obama just got three more delegates, she’s obviously a Clinton supporter...lmao

The die-hards can scream and scream, but the momentum is now building and the result is unavoidable. Hang on folks, I believe that we are coming in for a landing.

"I know her brother works on the McCain campaign...

I have no clue who Mika Brezinsky is (I don't watch TV talking heads), but I'd hate to be judged by my brothers' opinions. One of them thinks Matt Drudge is the epitome of political righteousness, another thinks McCain is far too liberal to be a viable candidate, and the third, while more reasonable, is still just a shade to the left of the John Birch Society.

The add-on process is hard to figure out, but it looks to me that conservatively Obama has another dozen add-ons coming his way by the end of this month, so he's actually closer than any of the counts show.

user-pic

The Obama campaign has made clear they plan on having the SD & MT voting results for elected delegates put them over the top Tuesday night, not superdelegates. So expect a steady flow of SDs today and early tomorrow, but not the dam-burst we've all been longing for. That should, happily, come on Wednesday.

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!! FOR MCCAIN!!!

And Chimpeach - I love your icon. Not in a monkey-love kind of way, but in a heart-love. It makes my kidneys feel leaden and burning. It tastes like happy!

Happy Monday, all!
