Obama Campaigning Today In Michigan

Barack Obama is campaigning today in Michigan, a must-win state where he's facing something of a late start.

Obama will speak in Flint, a blue-collar area where a Democrat has to run up big totals in order to win statewide, with a speech on maintaining competitiveness in the global marketplace.

The primary controversies kept him out of here for much of the year, hurting his poll numbers against McCain, but recent surveys show he's starting to take the lead.

Where's John McCain today?

But have they chosen their VP's yet?
Who do you think should be picked as VP running mate?
Votenic.com is running a weekly poll.
Check out their results and vote your choice.

hey PRO SPAMMER: fuck off already.

He's probably planning a new fake town hall.

completely agree mccain is a fraud I thought he was supposed to be the king of town hall meeting. I guess FOX NEWS didn't even want to buy into that because they called mccain out about it on air.

I think McCain is doing a bar-b-que event with his real constituency--the press.

I think as soon as Obama really gets a chance to campaign in Michigan and Florida we are going to see his numbers there take off.

We'll see his Michigan numbers hover not much more than 50 percent. That's all he'll need to win it but it won't be easy. Forget Florida - why people still think of that as a swing state is beyond me.

Hell win Michigan, but it's nice that the current, flawed CW has given McCain enough false hope to dump money there.

At some point McCain's internal polls will tell him that, though, if they aren't already.

Isn't MI usually a Democratic state? I think the Obama people should relay the clip in which McCain said those jobs in Detroit will never come back.

Michigan voters care about three things:
1) The economy.
2) The economy.
3) The economy.

McCain has already declared himself clueless about economics. That fact combined with his declaration that Michigan's jobs are never coming back means Obama can put Michagan away.

Anyone who believes otherwise is smoking crack, but I hope they keep smoking it so that McBushn pours money into the state. I also hope he takes the pundit's advice and makes Magic Underwear Mitt ("A favorite son of Michigan!") his running mate.

I'd like to hear the particulars on his speech there. If anyone comes up with a transcript or video, a link would be greatly appreciated.

This is the second time in a week that TPM authors have described Michigan as "must-win." They must not understand the term. Obama does NOT need to win Michigan in order to win the presidency. He's working hard to dispel the notion that there are "must win" states, with the possible exception of California and New York. TPM is drinking the traditional media Kool-Aid. The truth is that Michigan is a very important state in November, but you don't have to go overboard by implying that Obama loses without it. It's simply false.

So Ohio and Florida are not must wins according to Plouffe.

Now Michigan is not a must win?

I guess Magic Obama will win without winning any states! Great strategy!

The Michigan voters were screwed by Obama and his handlers. They should not and will not forget that.

idiot.

They're having a hard time breaking out of the old vernacular. They aren't quite getting the new paradigm - three words: 50 State Strategy.

So, what's a good substitute for "must win"? I think "battleground" works.

Battleground doesn't work, either. Just call Michigan "Blue."

Folks, if you are watching on election night and see Michigan turn red, turn off the TV and go to bed, because McCain will win everything remaining to the west. Of course, McCain will also already have won New York, so most TVs will already be off as Americans gaze out their windows to watch the pigs fly.

Find other states to wring your hands over, people.

yep.

there is absolutely no basis for calling michigan a 'must-win' when there are multiple likely scenarios in which either candidate could win the presidency without winning michigan.
