Obama And Hillary To Appear Together At Washington Fundraiser

The ultimate in Democratic unity events will be happening next Thursday, when Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton appear together at a Washington fundraiser before a crowd of Hillary donors.

Hillary has been urging her donors to coalesce around Obama, and to put the ugliness of the primary season in the past. For their part, Clinton donors have had their own demands -- that Obama help in fundraising to retire Hillary's campaign debt, for example, or that he even put her on the ticket.

It's not clear from initial press reports whether this meeting will be open to the press.

Yes, I can see that you really have your focus on what's important in this election. Indeed, the impact on this story is that it will make Hillary wackos on another site bleat like the Obama wackos bleat on this and other sites. Now, do you also confuse your favorite baseball team with the candidate you are supporting in the election? Sports, politics, all the same. lol

Actually, I do. Dude, you're really good!

What! Yet another Clinton post?! I can't believe how biased this place is!

What, what?

I thought Obama within the last month vowed to have a reporter present at every fundraiser in a pledge for transparency in the elections?

I can't find it on the Google though....

Hillary Clinton's camp was seething yesterday over what it sees as a snub by Barack Obama in appointing a former staffer [Patti Solis Doyle] with whom she has fallen out to a key post in his campaign team.

"This is a stick in the eye to her," one of her inner circle said, adding that it effectively ruled Clinton out as his vice-presidential running mate.

* * *

Clinton has been estranged from Solis Doyle since she sacked her earlier this year, blaming her for mismanaging funding and for ignoring the caucuses that gave Obama a lead that proved to be decisive.

The source in her team said: "It creates a bad taste. It is very counterproductive. A foolish political move ... Choosing her as chief of staff to the vice-presidential nominee - someone that [Clinton] has not chosen and whom she removed - is a way of saying Hillary Clinton is not going to be the vice-president." [more]

Isn't this effing sexism that Hillary & her rabid supporters have been carping about ?

What price effing Porcine Penn, Icky Ickes, Loudmouth Lannie and big effing Bill himself ? They were the ones, along with her, who lost the primary.

Pardon my effing french.

The Clinton camp?

I think part of the problem here is you attribute anyone linked to HRC as speaking for her.

So we get 500 people bloviating at all times, and low and behold you find one to bad mouthed something about Obama and paint it as "the Clinton camp".

Read the link, obs2. "Clinton camp" is not my phrase. Have you got a plan B?

Does it not strike others as sexist that, with all the egregious jerks -- Penn, McAuliffe, Ickes, Lanny Davis, etc. -- lording it over Hillary's campaign, it is the woman Solis Doyle who gets blamed "for mismanaging funding and for ignoring the caucuses," etc.?

Ding. They probably even called her "hysterical." Great pick-up for Obama.

And really, now that it's just the two of them, Sen McCain is not standing up too well. Bob Dole with a limp and a stutter.

I love how states like KY (McConnel) are going to bankrupt the GOP to defend, and they will still lose most of them.

Yes, I can see you are on message. Let me ask you--I have read your posts. Can you explain why you are supporting Senator Obama, because the only thing I have learned from your myriad posts is that: (1) you want to censor what is reported at TPM; and (2) you hate Hillary Clinton. Why do you support Senator Obama? Do you support him? One can't tell from what you write.

Oh, I have, and it's completely annoying. I can't believe those attributed to her camp display such venom toward her, but not that awful hack Mark Penn.

I was so relieved when I saw this headline, because we had had a draught today for Hillary posts. I was afraid someone had reprogramed the Hillary Clinton macro on Greg's and Eric's computers.

But I must admit this at least is a legitimate item. And I hope the general optimism of Eric's post turns out to be justified.

But what's this "ugliness of the primary season" he refers to? Whoah! To whom do we attribute this "ugliness"? And does anyone actually believe for a moment that Hillary, or Eric, would detect such "ugliness of the primary season" but for her loss at the end?

TPM has to pay their bills also. Hillary fans need a reason to come and visit as well.

Did you notice how well the Obama right or wrongers worked the refs in the past couple of days? They intimidated the website into having almost zero mention of Hillary Clinton yesterday. It was rather amusing. I submit there was a conscious decision by TPM to not report on the appointment of Solis Doyle, and the real controversy it has generated. The herd won, and the beancounters are protecting their ass..ets. :) The inmates are indeed running the asylum, and it doesn't take a genius to see it.

Don't just love the posters who tell TPM in their comments that they have given their "approval" to this Hillary article? Some of these folks would fit in very well with the old Pravda. Dear leader, we protect thee, and we have "approved" this particular reference to Hillary Clinton because it doesn't connote anything negative for you dear leader.

How's 'bout a big belly laugh, cause you can't make this stuff up;.

I guess this is the newsworthy Clinton article that you couldn't find yesterday. Is your Clinton drought over?

I am just looking forward to the day when the word clinton doesn't appear in daily news stories in the media. It's over and it's time to move on.

user-pic

Are you going to become my personal stalker? Should I be flattered? Respectfully, I could care less whether stuff about Clinton is posted or not. I have been utterly amused, however, by the ditto-head-like response to the content of TPM posts on here from people like you. I predict that thinking folks, genuine folks, will at some point when the dust settles understand the merits of what I write now.

In the meantime, please get your Clinton news elsewhere. I am not here to report the news, even if I consider it important. You'll have to harass someone else. Thanks for the anticipated courtesy.

user-pic

But, for the record, the Solis Doyle appointment was a story yesterday. The fact that I didn't accede to your petty demand that I produce a "Clinton article" as some sort of test yesterday didn't make it any less of a news article. Now, please, kindly have the last word if you must and move on.

For someone who imagines himself to be a "thinking person," I'm amused (but not amazed) at how quickly you sink to ad hominem fallacies. Clearly, your imagined intellect isn't worth the attempt at conversation, let alone "stalking." Perhaps if you overcome your Clinton fixation, your purported thinking potential might rise. Until then, adios.

Too true bslev. Some of these folks seem to think of winning the primary in terms of Pirate Pete ACQUIRE MERGE DILUTE ARRRRRRGH as if Obama is absolutely the only thing that matters in the democratic party without realizing Hillary still has a big part to play in this. Talk about shortsighted. Obama is heading the democratic party, but the party is not some totalitarian dictatorship and Hillary is the 2nd most important figure out there. Whatever she does will continue to be newsworthy.

Fantastic. Let them join up their two powerful constituencies and respective enthusiasm generators to switch on the money and GOTV right now. We need to see them together so that both Obamites and Hillarians can get over it and get on with it.

Wonder twin powers activate. Form of: Victory. (Is my generation X gene showing?)

Another Hillary story by TPM. Doesn't she know the campaign isn't about her anymore and she should just stay home already? Geez - how selfish can you get?

user-pic

Dijamo, my "reply" to you is above.

Let's see more of this by Obama, please. Yes, it's fun to poke fun at Hillary and I'm just as guilty of it as anyone else, but she is a force in the party with a loyal base and the potential to help break McCain's back financially. It benefits Obama immenseley to keep her in the fold and appeal to her base.

I hate that site. did anyone even notice that half of those sites claiming to say women are being mistreated are actually ran by men. they are being played

Thanks for the link. Holy cow! I wouldn't have expected that at this stage of the game. Look out mcbush landslide coming.

Yup, the troika of results released by Quinnipac this morning are absolute eye-raisers. Ahead outside of margin of error in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and leading in Florida.

Plus, take that Q poll today and all of a sudden yesterday's PPP poll showing Obama up 11 there doesn't look like such an outlier. At all.

Huh. Guess maybe Obama CAN compete in these states just as well as HRC. Whoever could have seen that coming? (insert sarcastic tone for proper effect)

user-pic

By the way, now obama is at 325 and mcbush is at 213 and that's not counting virginia, north carolina, georgia or missouri. I can see 400 coming. Holy cow! Go Obama!

One other election thing, off topic. Anyone see the two new moveon ads. Both are very, very powerful and not over the top at all. Very good ads. The mother with the baby almost had me crying. I am amazed. Maybe moveon is coming around.

Eric,

Do these Clinton donors understand what they are doing by asking Barack Obama to help retire her campaign debt at this moment? We have an election to win -- to get to 270 electoral votes, 60+ Democratic Senators, 250+ House Democrats, etc. so we can advance the causes that brought Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and many of these donors into politics in the first place (i.e., universal health care, higher wages and more economic security, civil rights/voting rights/womens' rights, ending an unnecessary war, etc.). And for what do these donors want to jepoardize the advancement of these progressive causes -- not for more progressive causes but to keep Hillary Clinton a viable Presidential/Gubernatorial candidate (Senate is a different story since it's almost certain vendors would be willing to loan her money because she almost certainly will win reelection.). That sounds pretty small to me.

At least Hillary seems to be acting like a grown-up about this. She understands that's its time to pursue a different dream. When will her donors understand this?

The depth of the Clinton's contempt for "the average American" is shown by her asking them to stretch financially to pay off her debt while she has tens of millions in her personal bank account.
So once the dupes (dopes) pony up and pay off her and Mark Penn's campiagn debt, the Clintons will be sailing around on their pal Oscar de la Renta's yacht, as Bill boffs the boat's comely chef and Hillary cackles away with Mark Penn on the poop deck.
