Obama And Hillary Spoke Privately On Sunday Night

Obama campaign spokesperson Bill Burton confirms to me that Obama and Hillary spoke privately on Sunday night -- but those looking to read their conversation for clues to how or whether the race will end tomorrow may be disappointed.

"They did speak," Burton tells me via instant message.

Asked if they had discussed anything relating to post-primary activities, Burton said: "He called to congratulate her on her victory in Puerto Rico, that's it."

This was reported before, it was supposedly a 3 minute call, so he could congratulate her.

3 AM would have been poetic justice.

Which she never has the decency to do, when he wins.

THIS gets its own thread?

WTF?

user-pic

Slow news day?

user-pic

What's with asking her BIG DONORS to travel across country to NY so she can make a speech?

Would you spend more money down the drain for a "I concede" speech? I know I wouldn't.

She's got something else up her sleeve - I'm sure of it.

I think it is more like a "sorry you all wasted your money" kind of occasion, not a request for more money, although she probably does want some help paying off her debts.

I dunno, I think there's more to this....

We can continue to speculate and read the tea leaves, Greg. It's better than working.

My money is on a blue pant suit for tomorrow. And a suspension and endorsement.

Hillary Clinton will change her Superdelegate endorsment in time to be the 2118 delegate for Barack Obama.

user-pic

Oh, that would be poetic. Unlikely, but poetic.

user-pic

Geez, Greg. You can't win. You get blasted for posting items on Clinton, and now you're getting blasted for posting an item on Clinton and Obama.

Obama mentioned last night in his speech that he had called Clinton to congratulate her. I don't ever recall him saying anything like that before. Is this the first time he's done that?

And when I heard him say that, I thought "It's over...."

For the record, I've heard them mention speaking the night of primaries before, although I can't point to specifics.

The thing to me is that Obama spoke in the afternoon yesterday from South Dakota, and mentioned that had already spoken. That is not "Last Night"

I think there is a high likelyhood the campaigns spoke, along with the candidates, much later than the public speeches yesterday.

Terry McAuliffe's drunken appearance on MSNBC speaks to an all-nighter.

Well, that depends on what the definition of "night" is.

According to Obama, he had called Hillary prior to his appearance in Mitchell, S.D., which was in the afternoon. Midafternoon! Certainly not night.

So either Burton doesn't know about the nighttime call, is being disingenuous or there was no nighttime call. And, if there was no second call, all the stuff about Hills bowing out is premature. She spoke after Obama yesterday, and she certainly didn't appear to be throwing in any towel.

user-pic

Mystery may be solved by simply realizing that the PR primary polls closed mid-afternoon eastern time.

"Earlier in the day it was reported that Clinton staffers were being urged by the campaign's finance department "to turn in their outstanding expense receipts by the end of the week," another sign that the run at the White House was nearing an end. In addition, Politico wrote that members of Clinton's advance staff had received calls and emails Sunday night, summoning them to New York City and telling them their roles on the campaign are ending."

Rolls in the Dem Primary Campaign --- could she then be hiring them Tomorrow for her campaign to run against McCain?

user-pic

Sorry, that should be ROLES, not ROLLS.

user-pic

What I don't like is --- Obama is reported as having said that HE and HILLARY would be working TOGETHER in NOVEMBER!!!

Does this mean he's decided to offer her the VP slot?

By Nov 4th the General will be OVER. Why would he SAY NOV?

Probably just a way of saying they will be political allies after this is all said and done.

user-pic

The speculation is either Secretary of DHHS or main Senate sponsor of his heathcare reform bill.

Probably not VP but she'll have the option to join his cabinet along with Edwards (AG?), Richardson (VP?), Biden (Sec of State?), and perhaps Dodd (Labor?). A time of Rivals like Lincoln.

user-pic

can just imagine the conversation:

BO: Congratulations Hillary...

HRC: Fuck you! I fucking hate you!

BO: Now now, is that really necessary Hillary? We have to start uniting the party...

HRC: Fuck you and fuck unity! I was supposed to be President! Do you think I put up with Bill's bullshit for nothing? All the cheap sluts, the blue dresses, the shame... I'd have killed him in his sleep years ago if he hadn't promised me I could be President. Now I'll never have my chance, Bill won't sleep in the same hemisphere as me anymore and everyone knows I'm a pathological liar. The Presidency was owed me and YOU FUCKED IT UP.

BO: Well, Hillary, the voters wanted change...

HRC: Fuck change! Don't give me that "change" shit. It was all mine, they wanted me, I was inevitable, everyone said so. Then you come along with your honesty, and your intelligence, and your oratory and you fucked it all up!

BO: Well, congratulations on your big win in Puerto Rico Hillary, and have a good night.

HRC: You're black!

Nice. Just needed to keep going, Fr. Pfleger?

I'm glad that I've switched my registration from the Democratic party. Idiots like yourself should have fun running it into the ground.

So long and good luck.

Do you even know how ridiculous that sounds? A few over-zealous Obama supporters have changed your mind forever about the Democrats?? Come on, seriously. Could you possibly be more self-centered?

Hillary and Barack are twins on policy, but you can't bring yourself to vote for him? Really?

That's what trolls say.

Sure, no one can be offended by this crap that's been going on all Spring or they're "self-centered"?! Thanks for being open minded. You'll fit right in with the new Dean Democratic party.

The Dean Democratic party does not represent my views anymore and the racist and mysogist ilk that Dean has attracted to the party are not the kind of people that I care to continue donating money to.

So long and good luck.

user-pic

What makes you think Nisleib is an obama supporter and not just a troll looking to offend. He/she is certainly not winning any votes for the senator with that vitriol. Perhaps he/she is a McCain supporter trying to keep us divided. The only thing you know for sure about a poster on the interTubes is that they can type.

see-ya, loser!

(call-me)

I'm for leaving Hillary alone at this point, but...

That was some funny shit.

HRC: You're black!

You forgot "inadequate." :)

Damn!

So the woman's full name is Harriet RODHAM Christian?!?!

A long-lost sister, perhaps??!?

No doubt, they were whispering sweet nothings in one another's ears.

I am going to be very interested in who Obama's Finest now snark and bash now that you don't have Hillary Clinton to kick around any more.

My bet is you turn on each other!

Oh, if only there were some other politician picking fights with him. Perhaps a Republican...

Dig the Nixon reference. Quite appropriate vis-a-vis HRC. I would imagine Obama people will turn to McCain.

Have you heard of John McCain?

Well...yeah, there's always HIM!

user-pic

I'll be kicking John Dubya McCain... while expressing my respect for his military service and his sacrifices during the Korean War. Because life is too short to let petty differences lead to 4 more years of the failed Bush-McCain foreign policy. Or the failed Bush-McCain economic policy. Or the failed Bush-Mccain...

B-O-R-I-N-G!

Consisted of nothing more except:

"Congrats, Hillary"

"Thanks, Barack...and fuck you!" Click.

"Whaaaaahh??"

That's Hillary for ya!

OBAMA '08!

user-pic

Greg, the Edsall piece in HuffPo says this:

Obama and Clinton spoke Sunday night and agreed that their staffs should begin negotiations over post-primary activities, according to reliable sources.

But Burton just says it was a congratulatory call? Is Edsall wrong?

user-pic

Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function. Edit function.

user-pic

Does this work like a prayer?

Rosary.

Very nice, nisleib. It's frighteningly close to being there.

Hilary should run for Queen of Puerto Rico

THO4HILLARY,

Time to wake up to reality land!

By the end of the primaries tomorrow (even if he loses SD), he'll be within 20-25 of the magic number (the real magic number, not the mystical one Hillary wants). You honestly mean to tell me out of 190+ undeclared SD's, 20 won't go his way!

Oh, and let's not forget the remaining John Edwards delegates who will be going Obama's way this week as well. I think 9 or so are left?

According to idiotic,

Audio from their conversation:

;)

Of course they were discussing her dropping out and what happens after, and of course his campaign people are going to deny it.

He's worked to hard to appear civil through this process to have his people do or say anything that might be perceived as "embarrassing" Clinton or her campaign. They're not going to announce her concession before she does.

She will drop out tomorrow or Wednesday, she will not be the Veep.

THO4HILLARY - Wow, clueless AND toothless!

Tell me, is that West Virginia racist I see in your UN-educated country bupkin response...maybe Kentucky? Gaaaaawd Damn, boy! That's a fine spit cup you got on the trailer porch!

Bill Clinton tells crowd that this may probably be his last campaign ever of this sort.

That can mean that Hillary does not expect to be the nominee, but the fact that Bill said "ever" could mean that Hillary is not going to run for President again, or it could mean that she just does not want Bill screwing up her future runs, and that she feels that he did more harm than good. He sure did not get any bounce for her in North Carolina, or Puerto Rico after all the time he spent campaigning in both places.

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/06/02/sot.bill.clinton.last.cnn

Pay attention, also, to the very end of the brief video of Bill making the statement, because he says something else very revealing. He pretty much tells the audience that they should only believe half of what he says, because he just says it because he has to go home at night. He actually said that there may be some truth to that.

I did not see any attention being brought to that part of his remarks, and that is the part that is most likely to get him a Bosnian Sniper greeting from Hillary when he meets up with her again.

Why don't ya go fetch us some squirrel, boy! You, Cletus and the boys then come on over for some fine racist eats!

HOOOOOOOOOO-DOGGAY!

user-pic

THis gets 57 comments? Ooops. Make that 58.

Ya'll are the whiniest bunch of losers in the world.

She told him she is taking it to the convention.

Deal with it whiners.

Oh, gotalife, what will you do when she drops out? You can no longer pretend to be anything but the Republican you are.

Pretending to support Hillary is credible, as she was a formidible contender. Watching you try to make convincing arguements for McCain is going to be hilarious.

1) Obama will not deliver on universal health care.
2) Obama does not have the courage and experience necessary to get our troops out of Iraq safely.
3) Obama is racially polarizing.
4) McCain will only serve one term. Obama's vacuous, self-serving brand of "post-partisanship" will neuter the Democratic Party for years to come.

You make Baghdad Bob look good keep it up.

Well Gota, your life is slipping away.

user-pic

Are there mosquitos in here? I keep hearing this persistent high pitched whining noise -

So true.

nisleib: chilling authenticity...cracked me up!

Gotalife, as usual, was right there to witness it all! Please, tell us more...enlighten us with your "on the dot, fly on the wall" recap, genius!

Please, please, Dear God, please don't aske her to be VP!

Can you say 'McCain/Clinton 08'. I thought you could.

I will post soon on just why that makes sense. Although I can't stand the idea, I do believe that it is very possible and somewhat likely. Especially if Clinton does not snag the veep job.

McCain has already asked her...but she wants to bleed out more of B.O-Bam's stock pile of cash he got after the STIM PACK was released. Ironic that Bush admin dumps 1000.00 checks to most of the country so they can send a portion to Barrack. Power begets Power...Sail on Socialism!!

Nasty, nasty little 'bots.

Mean-spirited, racist little chumps.

If a man is judged by his followers, The Dear Leader is an out-and-out loser.

user-pic

If you believe that those who say they support a particular candidate on the internet actualy do, I have a fortune I just inherited but I need your banking information so that I can get it into the country.

Its clear that the Obama movement doesn't need my bitter-ass help this November. I'm more than happy to oblige.

Don't bother trying to guilt-trip me. At least I know who McCain is. Obama could very well sell us out across the board.

There's no evidence that he believes in anything.

According FirstRead (MSNBC)Obama needs 39.5

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro Obama today picked up four superdelegates to Clinton's two.

Since the rules committee judgment, Obama has gotten six superdelegates to Clinton's two.

Here's who they were:
OBAMA (6): WA DNC member David McDonald; VA DNC Member -- a rules committee member -- Jerome Wiley Segovia; Connecticut DNC Member Nancy DiNardo; and two from MI -- MI delegates get half a vote each: Lu Battaglieri and Brenda Lawrence. Yesterday, Obama got Maine add-on Gwethalyn Phillips and Nevada's Yvonne Gates.

CLINTON (2): NY Irene Stein and Louisiana's Democratic Party chair Chris Whittington.

The NBC NEWS Delegate Counts:
PLEDGED: Obama 1729 to 1625
SUPERS: Obama 333 to 295
EDWARDS PL.: Obama 16.5 to 0
OVERALL: Obama 2,078.5 to 1,920

user-pic

Hey! Don't get snippy.

This nightmare/farce is finally ending...

Hurray!

What a waste of time and resources, but it will be good. At least Wright and Trinity are out of the way NOW. Rather then in the fall.

You guys/girl/trolls are funny?

...hey this was a fair race...and HRC came up short. WTF, let's get on with punching McBush in the face. I'm all for a little geriatric ass kickin'

Check this out folks...this looks like the next possible attempt to discredit Barack Obama, and become Fox news' next neverending talking point.

I back Barack, just thought this is important to pass around so you won't be blindsided if it conveniently pops up.

Roger Stone is clearly a guy to take seriously. He also has a legitimate opinion in the media.

He's important, basically.

user-pic

That is exactly what we need more unsubstantiated BS claims being treated as if they are important. "I have a recording of McCain giving the keynot address at a clan rally but I missplaced it." There that is important to.

Obama said to Senator Clinton, "I'm so so very sorry that my supporters are so limbaugh like and ann coulter like. I'm ashamed to say they are my supporters. I promise you if, and its a huge if, I win the pResidency, I promise you I'll throw them under the bus like I did with Wright and my former church."
